The funny thing about this Blue Bloods episode is that it's about forgiving and forgetting. Some ironic payback is administered here all around. A topic of intense discussion at the Reagan family dinner.

A girl who was wounded in the spine 8 years before dies and the DA's office reopens the case which was handled by Danny Reagan. Handling it on the DA end is Erin Reagan-Boyle. Donnie Wahlberg and Bridget Moynahan differ sharply on this issue.

Tom Selleck has a crisis involving an old colleague from when he was a detective whose weapon discharged and another detective is wounded.

But the bulk of this story goes to Will Estes who feels for another cop who testified against her partner when she caught him really doing something bad. She's given the shunning treatment by the rest of the precinct, even by Vanessa Ray. Estes agrees to switch partners temporarily and ride with Tonya Glanz. She turns out to be one stand up woman.

And Estes turns out to be stand up guy dressing down a fellow officer and subtly threatening to use the Reagan family connection if anyone bothers Glanz again. A real highlight for Estes in the Blue Blood series.

The conclusion at the Reagan table is that there are no easy answers.

Blue Wall of Silence
allanfiddes17 March 2023
Warning: Spoilers
So police officers are allowed to kill innocent civilians and if they are caught committing murder by another police officer the police officers who witness the murder are supposed to cover up the crime and let the guilty officer get away with cold blooded murder.

The police officers who refused to backup the officer in question should be fired for dereliction of duty. I can't understand how Jamie's partner was so biased against the officer. It's a disgusting culture of prejudice and discrimination. Henry Reagan is a dinosaur and should have been removed from the show. Saying She deserves what she gets. That is being killed on duty because other police officers wouldn't back her up. I hate the so called Blue Wall. Police officers do a really important job but they are not above the law.

Once again

Warning: Spoilers
Once again i loathe the Eddie Jenko character. She can't be so thick, that she can't see the absolute horror it would entail, if her sentiment is actually carried out. It would de facto give police officers carte blanche to do anything, because there would always be a partner to back up, even if terrible crimes are committed.

It is unbelievable, that an adult person can't see that police officers must also answer to the law, and in front of a grand jury you have to be truthful.

But then again, when pressed by Jamie, she doesn't really have any good arguments, just repeats the "should always back up the partner" idiom ad nauseum.

I really don't like stupid.

No Easy Answers

This episode should have been titled "No Easy Answers" in my opinion. Even after the show wrapped up it would be dead simple to argue any of the situations that were part of this episode, either pro or con. I would rate this as one of the best shows that Blue Bloods has brought out. Kudos to the writers (and of course the actors). As others have noted this show is special because of the family dynamics it brings to the small screen each week. But having these types of moral questions set before us gave this series a special place in my mind. Great episode, without any doubt. I hope that future shows live up to this one and that the writers continue to challenge us viewers with the moral ambiguity that makes up so much of life. I think those challenges are especially prevalent in law enforcement.

5.3 Looking Aside ****
edwagreen5 October 2014
Warning: Spoilers
This episode could have easily been called Looking Aside.

When an innocent young girl dies 8 years later following her being shot, her father wants the guy who shot her retried. He had previously spent 3 years in prison for the crime which is certainly not a testament to our criminal justice system. Danny is all for that and Erin agrees until she discovers that the convicted felon has been rehabilitated and now works with troubled youth. It takes his shooting by the father of the dead girl for all to realize that things should be set aside.

The theme is continued by an officer, 4 months shy of retirement, involved in an accidental shooting of another officer. Both had been drinking before the incident took place. A female police officer who testified against the officer is shunned by her fellow officers. Jaime comes to her defense and of course when she is shot by a hoodlum in a robbery, it's time to reevaluate the situation. The blue line of silence has to crumble.
