"We're not bad people, but we did a bad thing"

Don't read this unless you've watched the whole season, if you do, know there'll be a lot of spoilers on the way.

Season Finale wrapped things up perfectly, with some little time jumps between the events that lead to Danny's death, John, Kevin and Meg cover it up while dealing with the guilty of getting rid of their brother.

The police investigates the facts while the Rayburns set a lot of things in motion to blame Danny's death on all of his mistakes, as we learn Sally is the one who told her children to lie about what happened to Danny in his childhood.

In the end of the episode, we see the Rayburns trying to get on with their lives, but a potential witness and new problem might bring a bomb that'll explode in all their faces on Season 2.

I got to say that I'm really impressed with this show, it was the least promoted Netflix show in my country and the one that surprised me the most, a very well told story and the necessary pace between family drama, crime and action brought me to it and I just couldn't stop watching it, I don't think Season 2 will top this season, but I'll be very excited to watch it.

I'll be the first to admit I had my doubts about this show the first 6 or so episodes. But as the season went on, everything just got progressively better. Kyle Chandler and Ben Mendelsohn showed why they were nominated for numerous awards this season. Absolutely phenomenal acting.

I'm rating the whole season

Woo this family. They make my family look normal and that's scary. The first few episodes were tedious. We're told how horrible Danny is without much reason why. They finally start showing his true colors in a way that felt organic. So many lies and unspoken Truths. So many family secrets. And my interest was held for several episodes until the very end. By the end I couldn't figure out why these people want to be in each others lives. They are all miserable. Their relationships are so toxic. It's a good show worthy of watching but it's so hard to get behind any of the characters. I just want one of them to make a good choice. They just keep chasing bad choice after bad choice.

Despicable Danny

On the positive side the family dynamics are quite realistic (homicide aside) as far as lies and difficult communication are concerned. It's believable that some traumatic family events are left unspoken and after the years passed, nobody wants to dig them up. Also, people tend to have different memories of the same events and to elaborate those memories as it best suits them.

Therefore, Danny's version is that he was the "real" victim, even if he was responsible for his sister's death, and desperately tried to shift the burden to John and even to his dad. However, regardless of Sarah's accident, Danny never took responsibility for his own life, which makes him an immature, irresponsible whiner with a mighty mean streak. Not a sympathetic character. I agree the actor did a good job playing Danny, but not even once I felt even remotely sorry for his character.

On the negative side, the flashback technique was maddening. All those fragments from the past related to Danny's demise, mixed with the chronological narrative, plus John's voice over, did not help to create a smooth and compelling narrative. Stretching the plot further is not going to help, because the plot was already quite diluted enough (13 episodes when 8 would have been enough). Finally, the police reconstruction of what happened to Danny is so flawless that I wonder how they'll manage to mess it up in the next season.

Brother killers :)

I really hate that they show the scenes not in chronological (time) order. It is so confusing. I cant remember sometimes, for example previous episodes. Hard to understand sometimes. They did this for during the season. I did not like it.

A witness probably came in the end and i hope he will make the things worst for the family in next season.

Such cruel john, burned after killed his brother.

And it was too sad to hear that danny would go to confess (because he was wearing suit said marco, if they were not trying to fake john and to learn truth). But i think marco is not suspecting or other dea person.

Mother said she made kids tell lies after sarad died. If danny knew this before, maybe things could change. Danny could seek revenge only from mother. She deserves that pain. She should cry more. She caused all this.

That old sheriff said sally about their kids, they told lies to her. We know this but which lie? I hope we can learn.

Now, i will go to another series. I watch series season by season. So, i will come to this series later. For season 2.

Actually, i left only 20 30 minutes to watch in this episode and today i just finished it. I already started another series, "the path".

And i think no more to write for the this episode. NOthing ordinary.

Now season review:

First copying from previos episodes except finale: After finishing 'in the dark' series season 1, i decided to watch this series. Because seasons have more than 10 episodes and episodes are longer than 40 minutes.

Also, i needed some thriller.

I will edit here after watchin some episodes and i will copy this to episode 1 review.

I hope i can enjoy.

EDIT ON 21321 AFTER EPISODE 2 Getting interesting The accident reminds and shows us the old tragedies. I think father was beating danny in that scene and john was watching. John has that regret.

According to danny's story - that we saw, he told his father about he forgave everything. To such a cruel father.

But then somehow he gets in coma.

And i think those episodes are memories of danny because he had killed john and he is telling the story if i did not get it wrong.

At first, danny could tell his mother that he wanted to stay and noone could do anything against her. I did not understand why he tried john to speak to father.

The scenes are mixed. Sometimes hard to understand this was before this or not. Maybe that is making interesting it, but for now.

EDIT ON 22321 AFTER EPISODE 3 It is always hot and sunny. What a nice place.

Mother and meg go to see father but danny does not see him. Maybe hiding something or danny hates him.

EDIT ON 22321 AFTER EPISODE 5 Everyone remembers childhood.

All dirty memories. They are all dirty. They are the worst family.

Danny had such a childhood but mother could not do anything.

They can drink anywere, anytime. I like it.

So , the necklace belongs to their dead sister. John lied about how danny was injured. But he was 14. What could he do? I dont understand why danny gets upset for this.

Sarah and that dead bodies from the explosion are connected? I could not get it.

Robert was so filled up with hate, at first he had stroke when he spoke to danny. Then he offered money to him and died. He hated danny but at same time he got sad. He knew he ruined danny's life. I am happy to see a dead father.

EDIT ON 24321 AFTER EPISODE 9 Now approaching to be a ganster and that is how he will kill john probably.

I think in the end, they showed the beginning of the end. That kevin and john phone. Future incident, before danny killed john probably. Why do they show future like this (if i am correct about it), i dont like it like spoiler.

In the beginning, hearing harmonica is good. I like it.

The mother is really useless. Does not anything about family. Always sad, full of thoughtful face. It is not surprising kids to be like that.

EDIT ON 25321 AFTER EPISODE 10 Now john speaks, showed from future.

Throwing someone to the empty area. Where also another body. So john killed danny? The future changed, what happened there? :) Before john was killed or was i wrong?

He changes all system in hotel but noone cared :) danny was jeaolus and wanted to make kevin jealous maybe i dont understand why he behaved cool at first. Such cold blooded. Such disgusting.

Mother is again sitting alone What an episode. Danny came to speak to police station. While thinking Real or not, it appeared it was a trick. John gave last chance him because john realized his mother caused danny to be like that, in such personality.

But danny saved those human kidnappers. Maybe because danny learned that they stopped human smuggling. It was for one time.

Why rafi killed that his right man, i could not get it.

EDIT ON 26321 AFTER EPISODE 11 Danny leaves again.

And comes back again. It becomes boring Why did not kenny say the weird things danny said like "i sometimes want her to call me kevin" to her while asking her?

Again mother does not know anything about anything :) even danny left but she did not know. She came back did not care because she did not know before:) Or marriage of her daughter.

In the end john shouted "where is my daughter" , they all heard but probably they wont suspect :) Danny took jane. Yes he should have told but i think they dramatized too much. Danny is not killer. Why did he kill her?

If everyone told each other anything, without secrets this would not be.

If they say to kids "dont speak to uncle", why do they not speak to him? It is weird. Also did not tell his partner at work anything.

Danny blames always others. He has such weak character. John tried to send him. John should help him or protect but despite john behaves badly also. That is why i give 5/10. There is no one thinking sensible.

EDIT ON 26321 AFTER EPISODE 12 How could john let him be killed? He was almost killed. And it seems later it was a trap to check if john would care danny.

Maybe he tried to threaten with jane but he would not kill any from family. He was just in drug business. He only killed the killer who tried to kill him.

They were i think merciless to him.

The useless mother says "There have been clearly something going on in this family." You must be kidding, what can be going on :) such a week mother, such a week character.

In the end, it feels me different. Danny is walking in confidence, he is still laughing while going to death (probably dead). Because he cant imagine his little brother would kill him. His old partner and old best friend cant dare to kill his big brother. Because they are still teenagers. It is a game. I feel danny was feeling like this. I cant explain in other because.

It will be hard to forget that moments. Even did not try to survive. Maybe he wanted to die also and to give pain that will not leave john forever? I am not sure. Maybe because i have some experiences which danny lived with his family. That is why i am sensitive about it. Again, they did not protect him. Kevin and john decided to kill him.

Why did not you beg john? You could give drugs to him to give the mafia, then it could be different maybe.

At all, danny won.

NOW LAST THOUGHTS FOR SEASON:

It was really good seeing always it was sunny at first episodes. Always hot. Approaching to last episodes, rain started while darkness of the people increasing.

Danny maybe reminds me my childhood. That is why this show affected me too much, that is why i cant blame him so much. I also dont approve what he has done, all of them were his fault. He blames his family but he chose to do. But also his family is guilty also. Mother and father of course mostly.

Still, i remember the murder scene of danny. He does not fight back and laughing. So sad scene. He did not deserve.

I also wait some actions from chelsea in future episodes.

And less flash backs :)
