Power Up
ThomasDrufke25 November 2014
This week almost had a mid-season finale type feel to it. The stakes were high this week and a lot happened. It didn't have a filler storyline, though the villain wasn't all that memorable. But we had some surprise appearances and a whole lot on the line.

'Blackout' or so Cisco called him, was an interesting choice. Mostly because the Flash' personality is much like Spider-man's and quite frankly this villain seemed a lot like Electro. The powers are almost exactly the same, but this time he had to 'charge up' by using The Flash. I liked that his motives this time were on Wells. I don't think he has faced enough blame as he deserves for the amount of damage he caused when the explosion happened that night. It was good to see that he acknowledges how much pain he put people through, but at the same time claims it was all part of a plan. I feel like there's still a lot of explaining to do in that area but i'm still enjoying all the teases.

It was also nice to see Wells using the villains he has been locking away, that is until he got Tony killed. Barry shouldn't be apologizing for saying Wells doesn't care about people, because let's face it this is all for himself. Sure he wants Barry to stay alive but it's all so he can steal his powers. But he is shaping up to be a great villain no matter. Tonight reminded us again that characters can cross over from Arrow as the Clock King made his first appearance on The Flash. He was one of the few Arrow villains not to feel too much 'filler-like'. Even though it did just seem like he was used as a way to have the stakes feel higher as Barry didn't have his powers. But still this whole time had me thinking about how Eddie may be Reverse Flash. After all, didn't he just randomly appear with all the hostages hiding in the back? Perhaps he sped on in. Nevertheless tonight was a solid episode and just gets me more pumped for the two night event crossover next week.

+Wells vs Barry

+Stakes were high

+Teases

+Clock King

-But he was misused

-Too much like Spider-man/Electro

A Fast Step Up
SpoodermanDerp26 November 2014
"Power Outrage" feels like a step up for the Flash series and serves up as an intense and thrilling episode.

The Flash had lost his powers, Joe and Iris have been taken hostage, Starlabs is completely shutdown because of Blackout. These gave way to such tremendous amount of good bits shown on screen than any Flash episode. The action was entertaining to watch as usual and gets you pumped whenever it starts. The music blends well with the episode and adds up to the intense scenes. The episode had also tried to reach such a dark turn in scenes which was a great improvement as well. The visuals were still great as usual, although there were scenes wherein the CGI looks off, then certain moments where they look fantastic. I deeply hope that they do not lose enough budget that would cause the visuals to go on a downhill because they are truly one of the highlights of the show. I was impressed by Robert Knepper's performance as "Clock King". He had a Joker vibe within him and I hope he would be seen more in future episodes. Blackout was more of a so-so villain for me and was just like any other meta human villain shown in the previous episodes. However he might be the key for an iconic Flash villain such as Reverse Flash. As for the plot, I was never bored or felt any sense of going out of my seat. Easily the most entertaining and well rounded Flash episode so far with it's high scale level scenes and finally great dialogue.

+A step up for the Flash series, +Excellent Plot, +Cool Action, +Great Music, -CGI looked off and mediocre at certain scenes, +Clock King, -Blackout mediocre villain, +A glue to your seat episode.

I can't wait to see Arrow on the Flash yet again for next week's episode.

Verdict: 9.4/10

Power Outage
SpideyVerse2320 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This was an entertaining episode but its main draw for me was Harrison Wells. He gets more intriguing with every episode.

We see Barry lose his speed in this episode due to the metahuman Blackout, who wants to kill Wells for the Particle Accelerator explosion. So, he causes a blackout throughout Central City so that he can gain enough electricity required for what he wants to do. It was interesting to see Barry realize how reliant he has become on his speed and how valuable it is to him.

The Joe, Iris and Eddie plot was also interesting since The Clock King comes over from Arrow to hold them hostage. It was nice to see Iris do something on her own for once though.

Best Episode Yet!
Jdmaxgaming5 December 2014
"Power Outage" delivers to be the best episode of The Flash we've ever had! Bravo! It's action packed all the way through, causing me to be at the edge of my seat the entire time! It definitively had a mid-season finale feel to it which was pretty great in my opinion. But wow! What an intense episode. I actually felt for these characters more than I ever had in the previous episodes! My heart was racing when Blackout came through the door. The new villain Black out is really great, but I also felt that it was a major copy off of Spider- Man's electro. They could've picked a more unique villain, but all is good! This episode delivers in every aspect! The Flash team out does themselves big with this episode! I also love the hostage scene with that clock guy! I was so scared for Iris in these couple of scenes! As much as I don't like her, I still had a little worry for her! Overall, amazing episode! Let's keep it up! Here's to another amazing episode next week! - Jdmax

Ranking/Reviewing every Flash episode: Power Outage
lbramson10 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The best episode yet! In a classic setup, Barry loses his powers to a villain named Blackout, this timing his poor, however, since the power goes out and the Clock King invaded CCPD. This episode is somehow better than Plastique because I love all plotlines about heroes losing powers. If I could describe this episode in 1 word it would be: intense! The definition of the word intensity! Everything about this episode is intense, intense, intense, and intense! Who doesn't love the scene when Barry gets robbed? Haha, classic! This masterpiece is better than the others in every way and the first flawless Flash episode ever! How could they get any better than this? Easiest 10/10 of my life!

Aptly named
Fluke_Skywalker2 April 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Appropriately titled episode all but ignores dangling plot threads and heretofore drama and offers a more streamlined focus. Unfortunately, it feels a bit like a main course with no side dishes, and the main course is sadly a bit bland. There's some good stuff here. The good guy veneer around Dr. Wells continues to crack, and we see some echoes of the famous "Spider-Man no more." story here as Barry temporarily loses his powers. But the freak of the week, while sympathetic, is more like a freak of the weak, and the side plot with Iris, Joe and Eddie being held hostage goes nowhere.

Lacking bold, heroic moments and the drama that really greases the show's gears, "Power Outage" is easily the weakest episode thus far.

Are You Kidding Me?
asrexproductions27 November 2014
It's a cartoony plot in which Barry (Grant Gustin--seriously? That's his name? They might as well have called him "Corey!") loses his powers to some electro dude (Michael Reventar), who nobody thinks to spray with a hose to defeat. Instead, they want to shock Barry with enough voltage to fry a whole neighborhood to get his powers back, not knowing if it will actually work, and everybody is down for it. That is, until seconds before, when Caitlin (Danielle Panabaker) hesitates, after telling us she believes in planner Dr. Wells (Tom Cavanaugh) seconds before that. Long story short, I am flabbergasted that this episode is so highly rated and described as one of the best ever? WHAT?! Clearly the comic book geeks are out in force, and using IMDb tonight. To quote a better show (at least in the '90's), "worst... episode... ever." @shyhustler
