On the verge of divorce? Watch this!
DavidMovieReview17 December 2016
This film is surprising for the acting talent displayed. The three lead characters as well as the two supporting male characters are clearly talented. Mallory reminds me of the fun of watching Shirley Temple. No singing involved, but she is genuine and brings the same childlike glee to her acting. Christian Kane does very well as a rough edged creative type whose game has lost some of its polish over the years. Marley Shelton is great at acting both hot and cold in her relationships, a struggle for many modern business women. I liked her character more and more throughout the film, and her heart is the true focus of the film. Ernie Hudson was pitch perfect in his delivery, even though his role was relatively small . Sean Miller is decent, although the role written for him was somewhat two- dimensional and definitely predictable.

Yes, the script is formulaic. Classic conflicts arise. You may even guess some of the twists in the plot. But the movie gives you the sense that it needs to be watched. Hopefully it will give some couples new hope and help them to avoid the devastation of divorce if they pay attention to the film's lessons. If not, they'll find out the hard way, which we see demonstrated within the film. But the movie will serve as good medicine for those who will hear the message and bring more happiness to them and their children. Change like that would truly be "Heaven Sent."

Prepare to fall in love with that little angel
astrostar-185013 March 2017
Yes, I know it ticks all the boxes, formulaic, tick, overly sentimental, tick, even a bit manipulative, tick, and yet.... You can't help but be charmed by the story, can't help but fall in love with that little blonde angel, coming down to earth to help a couple fall in love again. I honestly wish Hollywood made more movies like this, a beautifully sweet little movie that all the family can enjoy, devoid of profanity, pointless sexual references or violence etc. I fell in love with this movie, with the beautiful story and the sassy little blonde angel. I couldn't help but smile a huge grin at some of the charming dialogue from that little girl. I found myself recollecting it again the following day and smiling all over again. There are very few movies I can say that about. I won't spoil it for you by telling specifics or how it ends, but it's a beautiful ending to a beautiful story. Maybe I'm getting overly sentimental in my old age, but I loved it and I think you will to.

OK, this is a cute movie! Proud 7 Stars!
huggibear25 November 2017
It is centered around the Holidays, so it is very well in line with all the pretty good Christmas movies. It's about a couple who are in the process of divorcing, but because of something that happened during their marriage perhaps??, they might have begun to drift away from each other. One wants the divorce more than the other. Along comes someone special in their lives to help keep them together. Does it work? You'll have to watch it to see for yourself, but it does have a cool and unique take on what might have caused the distance between the two. I like this movie a lot! It doesn't have a common title centered around the holidays or Christmas, but it does take place during the holidays. I watched this on the Lifetime channel, not knowing it was in tune with the holidays, I decided to watch it anyway. Glad I did because it wasn't a waste of my time.

This Movie Works - Top of its Class
dial911book14 January 2017
We live in a movie age that prizes high power special effects and depicts countless criminal acts from theft to robbery to torture to murder to mass murder. So the non-vicious, non-violent movies that are made can seem tame, maybe boring.

Don't let the insanity of evil and violence fill your every entertainment moment. Try a movie that explores the human condition played out in normal lives, one that explores the spiritual dimensions, one that makes you think and laugh and cry a little, too.

Wife and I were gripped and held by this movie, start to finish. Others here have written about the plot and the strengths of the acting and directing -- and we agree with those positive reviews. Heaven Sent is a family-friendly movie that blends some levity with serious life challenges, triggering something deeper in the process.

This movie ranks at the top of movies among the Lifetime and Hallmark channel offerings, and in our view, is nearly as good a film as Family Man. We'll watch it every year from here on.

Sweet and Spicy Little Angel!
LuLuBelleJ10 December 2016
Warning: Spoilers
It's Christmas time and Maire and Billy Taylor have been married 9 years, but their marriage has gone by the wayside, and Maire has filed for a divorce, but Billy does not want it.

Enter one sweet, and precocious (but oh, so intelligent and witty!) little angel, Taylor! The couple is immediately smitten by this little one, as the audience will be too! (Mallory James Mahoney is AH-MAZING).

Maire and Billy are both in tailspin mode, as this little angel is opening their eyes to so many little things that add up to the big things in life. They begin to see each other in a new light, all because of little Taylor.

So many Christmas movies have the same old plot again and again, and yet, this one broke that mold! (I should've known it was a Michael Landon, Jr movie.) Don't miss this GEM. No trailer can do justice to the movie. Christian Kane, and Marley Shelton have phenomenal on screen chemistry, (and he's soooo cute and funny in this movie!!).

Ernie Hudson, who plays Donatello was fantastic too! I'm getting teary eyed writing about how touching and sweet this movie is... So you're just going to have to see for yourself.❤️

It started out promising
enriqueg-1259221 December 2021
Although the story has been done before, it was a nice take with the couple wanting to get divorced. I wish they had gone a different direction with the ending mainly cause it has a similar ending to the movie "Foster."

The actors did a good job but there were times when the scenes were a bit long and not much movement in progressing the story. Overall it was an okay movie to watch once.

This Movie was Heaven Sent- Well Done
gehewe29 December 2017
I only rate about 10% of the movies a 10 and this one gets it. We have a fantasy story with a bit of a surprise at the end. Story keeps you engaged until the end. The story allows for some great humor and emotion. Such as the divorce papers never getting signed. Loved the mirror scenes. We have 3 main characters with no real distractions. Christian Kane plays the husband Billy, Marley Shelton plays the wife Maire and and the little girl Taylor is adorable. The Billy character really made the story. It was played with some real emotion and was not boring. Maire is well done and of course the little girl was adorable. No boring parts just a good fun story. I would enjoy watching again.

A Remake/Copy Cat
coneywithcheese21 November 2018
First, the little kid is a cheap copy of Shirley Temple but without the talent. They gave her lines containing words/phrases a child that age would not know. Even many adults would have to look them up.."uber-logical".. from an eight-year-old? Second, I think it is a poor remake/copy of a movie from 1950, For Heaven's Sake. I watched Heaven Sent once and will not waste my time again.

Formula Film At Its Best
Renie19746 December 2016
Warning: Spoilers
THE FOLLOWING REVIEW CONTAINS SLIGHT SPOILERS, BUT NOTHING MAJOR. IF YOU WANT NOTHING SPOILED FOR YOU, PLEASE DON'T READ.

I don't have cable TV, so I went to a friend's house to watch "Heaven Sent." I have never watched a Lifetime movie, ever. It's not my thing. Even if I had cable, I wouldn't watch the channel. The one and only reason I watched this film was it's star, Christian Kane. Known more for his action roles (as Eliot Spencer in "Leverage" and currently as Jake Stone on TNT's "The Librarians,")it's always nice to see him play a dramatic and slightly comedic role (he's really good at physical comedy, a gift I hope we get to see more of in future projects.) Christian plays Billy Taylor, and Marley Shelton plays his wife, Maire. Married for 9 years, she wants a divorce, and he doesn't. Maire says a prayer, wanting Billy to let go, and Billy prays that she'll change her mind. Turns out, someone is listening to their prayers. Enter little Taylor (played by newcomer Mallory James Mahoney,) a little girl who decides to take matters into her own hands. She appears at their house, out of nowhere, startling both Billy & Maire. As soon as they realize that only they can see her, they soon learn that she is, in fact, an angel who ran away from Heaven, and she really wants to call them 'mommy & daddy.' (If you're like me, you will have figured out who Taylor really is less than 30 minutes into the movie, but if not, then it'll be a major hankie moment for you.) She uses her charm and even a bit of magic to keep the divorce papers at bay, and to try and get Billy & Maire to re-connect with each other and fall in love again.

This is a formula film, through and through. Slightly hokey in its comedic efforts and a little over the top with the sweet moments, but none of it matters. We get Christian Kane at his best so far, being a doting dad to a little girl who's cuteness rivals that of any child actor I've seen as of late. Perfectly cast as Taylor, Mallory James Mahoney brings a sweetness, innocence, and even a bit of sneakiness to the role. Even at her young age, she is able to convey the wisdom that an angel from Heaven would probably have.

As Maire, Marley Shelton does a good job of portraying a workaholic woman who is all too ready to end her marriage, even though we get glimpses that it may not be what she really wants. She becomes very attached to Taylor and seems to relish acting the part of and being called 'mommy." As Billy, Christian Kane is perfect as the man who desperately wants to save his marriage and who is also trying to keep Christmas alive in his home and his heart, despite the many pitfalls (one literal) along the way. His scenes with Taylor, especially, are among the sweetest.

Director Michael Landon, Jr. does a nice job of conveying a cozy, small town atmosphere in Boulder, Colorado during the holidays. The story moves along at a good pace and doesn't really slack too much, but the scenes with Maire and her co-worker and possible new love Sean Miller (played by Ryan McPartlin) were slightly tedious to watch (but that's just me; if I had my druthers, Christian Kane would be in every single scene in the film.) A little plot twist that most people will see coming a mile away adds to the sappy factor, but it doesn't matter. "Heaven Sent" is a precious film that honestly made me fall in love with Christian Kane all over again (especially in the scene where we hear him singing to Taylor; Kane is an accomplished musician and has a beautiful voice; please check out his music on You Tube, or go to www.christiankane.com to buy his CDs if any are left; his fans, the Kaniacs, make re-stocking Kane merchandise a constant priority.) "Heaven Sent" is a perfect little gem of a film that will get you in the holiday spirit, renew your faith, and turn you into a faithful Kaniac. This one is destined to be a Christmas classic.

A Great Movie About Reconciliation Aided By A Runaway Angel
welker-9442320 April 2017
This movie is great from beginning to end. It so nicely features the Pearl Street Mall of Boulder.

You must watch it at least twice to fully understand the story line. The early scene of the movie where, wedding vows are visually presented, is a nice plus since the movie is really all about marriage.

You will gain a greater appreciation for love, marriage and family by watching this movie.

I agree with others that you will fall in love with the eight year old angel in the movie.

Lovely sentimental sweet Christmas holiday movie you absolutely need to watch all the way to the end!
mslisaroloff19 August 2019
Now, admittedly I am a HUGE Christian Kane fan. I mean I would watch an infomercial if he was in it. LOL So even though I am not normally big into Christmas movies (Love the winter holiday and giving gifts and family and all, but I'm pagan so the Christian aspects of it just leave me a bit flat), I had to watch. I mean Christian is in it. But honestly I loved EVERYTHING about it. It's sweet, dear and that little girl just steals every scene. LOL Christian adores children to begin with and that comes through in his scenes with that adorable little blond bundle of smiles and giggles. That wasn't acting, that was just him and it was obvious it was. Seriously, this just has to be seen. And the best part, and I don't really think this is spoilery at all, but... Christian sings Christmas carols to the little girl in one scene and it's just amazing.

Love this movie!!

Warning: Spoilers
I love watching this movie even though it's not Christmas yet. It's a super cute movie and would make anyone a great stocking stuffer. It also hit home for those who have had miscarriages. To me after watching it, it's saying even though you didn't get to carry your baby full term, they are still with you and watching over you always. Just believe in miracles.

A very personal experience
pennyanne-5084411 December 2019
This movie is a beautiful handling of a very sensitive subject. The Christmas setting making it all the more poignant. It's a movie I wish had been made earlier in my life as it has made Christmas easier to deal with. The acting and directing is so beautifully handled and covers so many emotions, and struggles that we can probably all identify with. It's a different kind of Christmas movie, but is now my all time favourite.

Warning: Spoilers
HIGHLY RECOMMEND this lovely, sweet, heartwarming, family friendly film. I would say for ages 10 and up because the more complex nature of some of the story line. This movie jits close to many, many families. So many of Christian Kane's Kaniacs will definitely agree and have so stated. He was just amazing in this role. Mallory James Mahoney, is just such a doll. Marley Shelton perfect compliment to them both. Can't say enough about this movie and it is hard for me to put in words how it did touch me. Make sure hankies are at the ready!

If your heart needs a hug...
estelle5813 December 2021
When this showed up in my YT feed I thought, oh another one of those sappy tear jerking Christmas type movies. Well, I was half right, tear jerking yes, sappy, no way!

The beauty of this production is that it does not allow you to figure out what is going on until the very end.

The young actress here is so precious and adorable.

I won't forget this one, and I bet most of you won't either.

Unbelievably beautiful!
bethlazara11 December 2019
This is the second year in a row that I've watched this movie, and cried both times. It was an unbelievably beautiful story, and that little girl was fantastic to watch. Ladies, wear the waterproof mascara whenever you choose to watch it.

Marley Shelton gave a great performance. Christian Kane was initially the reason I watched the movie and he, of course, did not disappoint! But, Mallory James Mahoney killed it!!

I loved it so much, I'm going to buy it and make watching it a yearly tradition. This year, I'll be sharing it with my thirteen year old grandson.

Wow
Jackbv1231 January 2019
What was I thinking the first time I reviewed this movie.

I was distracted while watching it the first time and when the ending came, I had to go back and re-watch parts of it to appreciate what happened. So I can't really judge if the movie was predictable,. There are some subtle things that occur on screen quickly, especially in the last half, so don't do what I did. To get the full impact, pay attention with both eyes and ears.

There is a really powerful twist. Even if you figured it out and expected it, when it hits you what's going on it's like a gut punch.

I love Christian Kane, but I wanted Billy to be more tender towards Maire. But then she hardly encourages him. Even so, I enjoyed Marley Shelton, who is new to me. I assume that Mallory James Mahoney, the actress, is close to the age she appears. She does an excellent job with the part and more so if she is that young. And she is adorably cute. Taylor is truly the center of the movie and she pulls all the relationships together.

Several reviewers say the movie is formulaic. In the sense of having a small child pull at the heartstrings, I agree, but in other ways I do not. While there are some of the overused tropes like building a snowman, decorating, and the competing rival, it did not feel like a paint by numbers Christmas script. I thought there were several fresh elements to the story, like helping Daddy shave, the scene with the policeman, and the premise of taking care of the little girl causing the separated couple to live together again. There are many funny moments and many tender moments.

The movie has definite supernatural elements to it. In one of the early scenes it's clear that only Billy and Maire can see Taylor.

This movie was so good. I loved the Lil girl. She steals the show. Lots of comedy, yet very touching at the same time. Families will enjoy this movie they can enjoy together. It's written around Christmas time but can be watched any time of year. Christian Kane and Mallory James Mahoney worked great together. Absolutely loved this movie.
