The red one they have is more than likely a 1906 REO Model B Runabout. Therefore the REO they are driving was not yet an automobile, but more than likely an idea or on Olds' drawing board somewhere.
The real Frederick Barnard Fetherstonhaugh (played by Trevor Hayes) was in real life a Canadian patent lawyer and prominent citizen of Toronto. He was also one of the first Canadians to own an electric car. His sister Frances was the paternal grandmother of actor Christopher Plummer. As correctly done in the episode, Frederick's surname is pronounced FAN-shaw.
