I think this is one of the show's finest episodes. From the contrast between real and faux female independence and empowerment, with Shosh and Marnie taking charge of their careers without depends on men on one hand, and Caroline 's desire for a natural birth on the other.
Adam fainting after Jessa yells "Foot!" is the funniest part of the episode.
It was interesting how the male characters were used in this episode. At the head of both Shosh and Marnie's inspiration were men, one man if I wanted to push it. Marnie decided to sing alone after a talk with Ray, and Shosh took the Tokyo job after talking with Ray's older counterpart, who she met by accident, while looking for Ray.
I think Ray was mean while talking to Desi. And similarly about Jessa's "be a man" speech to Laird, although she probably meant something closer to "you're the only person capable of convincing Caroline to go to a hospital".
