As much fun as it is to watch the celebrities perform on “The Masked Singer,” we get even more enjoyment from figuring out who they are. That is especially true if we can crack the mystery of who is hiding inside a costume before the four judges.
Season 6 of “The Masked Singer” promises to be the most competitive yet. The producers have packed the line-up with 17 stars performing inside 16 costumes (a pair are paired up as Banana Split). Five of these famous faces took to the stage on the September 22 premiere of this Fox reality competition series disguised as Bull, Mother Nature, Octopus, Pufferfish and Skunk. We’ve been reviewing all the clues that teased the premiere and have “The Masked Singer” spoilers, including the answer to the question, “Who is Pufferfish”?.
We readily admit that this is the toughest of the bunch because we only got a fleeting glimpse...

As the coronavirus runs wild across the globe, more and more people are ending up stuck at home, either from self-isolating to stop the spread after possibly coming into contact with the virus, or from their place of work shutting down to keep as many people as possible away from each other.
It’s one thing to stay indoors because you choose to, but quite another when you have no other option if you want to maintain your own safely and that of others, and so frustration can quickly set in without enough stimulus. In the hope of countering the latter, streaming service Shudder has begun offering the use of their site free for thirty days.

Doctor Sleep may be the sequel to The Shining, but it’s still very much its own book: The horrors aren’t just related to the Overlook Hotel and its ghosts, but also (spoiler alert) a roving pack of vampire-like creatures that feast on children who possess that psychic glimmer knowing as the shining. As such, the music for the upcoming film echoes the original Stanley Kubrick adaptation, but brings in its own special air of doom.

Andy Mitton, co-writer and co-director of We Go On and Yellowbrickroad, goes solo with a staggeringly effective, character-driven supernatural horror. Stunningly scripted and performed, this gripping paranormal chiller tells the spooky tale of divorced father Simon taking his 12-year-old son, Finn, to rural Vermont to help him property flip an old farmhouse. As they start to fix the place up they soon realise that no matter how deceased Lydia, the previous owner was, it doesn’t look like she ever left the premises. I haven't yet seen director/writer/editor/composer Andy Mitton's previous two features, We Go On and Yellowbrickroad, but having watched his new film The Witch in the Window (formerly known as The Vermont House) at Fantasia 2018, I'm going to have to rectify that as soon as possible. The story follows New York City denizen and middle-aged dad Simon (Alex Draper) as he picks up his son Finn (Charlie Tacker) from his estranged wife Beverly (Arija Bareikis). The goal is to fix up a house in the middle of nowhere, Vermont, get Finn away from the Internet and city life, and to bond with some quality father-son time. Problem, is the fixer-upper in the countryside already has a resident of the permanent kind, Lydia. The issue with most haunted house...

After spending three seasons in Colombia, Netflix’s drug trafficking drama is heading to Mexico. Narcos: Mexico will feature new characters including roles played by Michael Pena and Diego Luna.
Netflix unveiled the first look at Pena and Luna’s characters today. Luna (right) is set to play Miguel Ángel Félix Gallardo but he goes by only one name: Felix. He is the leader of the Guadalajara cartel, one of the biggest narcos in the history of Mexico and the founder of the modern Mexican drug trade. Quiet but bold, inscrutable but sharp-minded, to all appearances he is a benevolent leader, loyal to his friends, associates, and employees…but his ambition comes before all else.
Pena (above) will play Kiki Camarena, a family man and an undercover DEA agent who garnered valuable intel through a series of informants around Félix and his newly minted Guadalajara cartel, but found he had...

"Do you think there's something with the house?" An official trailer has debuted for the supernatural horror thriller The Witch in the Window, the solo feature debut of horror filmmaker Andy Mitton. The film will premiere at the Fantastia Film Festival in Montreal later this summer, and will likely play at other genre festivals this year before it gets a release. Here's the plot for The Witch in the Window: "When Simon brings his twelve year-old son, Finn, to rural Vermont to help flip an old farmhouse, they encounter the malicious spirit of Lydia, a previous owner. And now with every repair they make - she's getting stronger." This stars Alex Draper as Simon and introducing Charlie Tacker as Finn, with Greg Naughton, Arija Bareikis, and Carol Stanzione. This first teaser is quite good, might be worth a watch. Here's the first teaser trailer for Andy Mitton's The Witch in the Window,...

Although until now they’ve only been known as fashion designers, cinema has always been part of Kate and Laura Mulleavy’s work. The siblings often use films as inspiration for their collections and have delivered runway shows dedicated to the likes of Japanese horror movie Kuroneko among others, their elaborate, stunning designs are also staples of awards season red carpets with actresses like Kirsten Dunst and Natalie Portman wearing them to festivals and ceremonies. In fact, Portman collected her first Best Actress Oscar in a purple Rodarte gown, after Kate and Laura had designed many of the costumes for Black Swan. After being so immersed in the world of cinema, it seems that making a film was the logical next step, and so they’ve done with Woodshock, a hallucinatory journey into the mind of Theresa (Dunst) a young woman battling depression after the death of her mother.

Adam Driver plays the title role and creates a character far removed from the easily antagonized and disgruntled ones he’s best known for. His Paterson is a simple man of simple pleasures, but while most films would mock or sideline him here he’s embraced. A completely sober retelling of Armistead Maupin’s life would still be interesting – his great-grandfather was a Congressman, then a Confederate soldier, dying in the Civil War; Maupin himself was a Vietnam veteran who met Richard Nixon in the Oval Office; worked for ultra-right-wing Senator Jesse Helms; was once seduced by Rock Hudson; and became famous for his fiction because no-one would go on the record for him and he just decided to fictionalise the people he was meeting every day. But this documentary, as well as having all that in it, is colourful and fun and hilarious, and is definitely recommended.

What follows is a compelling journey into death and redemption. The film was a hit on the festival circuit, resulting in a plum deal from AMC's horror streaming service Shudder, which released the film exclusively this week. But while Kardashian-Jenner matriarch/Kuwtk executive producer Kris Jenner has seen more of the scene shown in the trailer, she still hasn’t made it through the whole thing.

Phobia-ridden and driven by a sense of existential dread (and also, literally, his mother, in her car) a man places an ad in the newspaper: prove the existence of life after death, win thirty thousand dollars. Of the many replies he receives (including, apparently, many masturbators), Miles narrows the applicants down to just three – a scientist, a medium and an entrepreneur.
First and foremost, We Go On is a road movie; a mother and her son, seeking answers. Like a downbeat Mulder and Scully, the sceptic (or flat-out unbeliever) and the agnostic, scrabbling for hope in a world which often terrifies the latter. Such a concept would be nothing without a strong pair of leads, and this...

On Sunday night, Emma Stone won the Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture, Comedy or Musical for her work in the dazzling movie-musical La La Land. Rolling Stone contributing editor Jonah Weiner spent several days with Stone for the cover story of our latest issue. Here are some of things he learned from the experience.
La La Land allowed her to flex muscles – literal and figurative – that she hadn't before.

Emma Stone's favorite place for sushi in Los Angeles is a no-frills spot in a Sunset Boulevard strip mall, tucked alongside a laser hair-removal clinic and a FedEx store. It's here, having barely taken a seat, that she starts telling me about her hiatal hernia. "I can't have spicy foods," Stone says. The issue, it turns out, is that part of her stomach protrudes "into my esophagus," which sounds gnarly but is actually pretty manageable, increased chances of acid reflux notwithstanding. "I was born with it," Stone notes cheerfully.

Jo Satana is finalizing his reviews from films exhibiting at the 2016 Fantasia International Film Festival!
We Go On is a tense supernatural thriller that brought the chills during a particularly hot and muggy week of Fantasia 2016. What stuck with me as well, aside from my wet skin flaps, was how much the title mirrored the mind state I was in at the time: late with reviews, missing essential screenings, losing track of priorities and having to push back the festival marketing machine. All you can do really is soak it in, take it out on your family, and simply « go on »….
Directed by Andy Mitton and Jesse Holland, We Go On is an intimate study on the resolve it takes to let go and move forward. We all carry ghosts of the past with us, some of you even have them tattooed on your body, but how many of us...
