A solid conclusion.

The first part was very good, the explosive start was certainly enough to hold the viewer's attention. It's been an interesting story, with some loathsome characters, and a surprise in waiting. It certainly makes you wonder what goes on among some families, and the lies they will tell to protect one another.

Very dramatic, plenty of action, and a few scenes in particular I thought were very enjoyable, the ending was very dramatic. Fine performances, it's no wonder that 8.5 million viewers tuned in. I really enjoyed this, a fine end to a strong season. 8/10

Death of a policeman

Warning: Spoilers
These comments refer to the entire two part story.

This; the final story of the current series opens with a police officer being found dead in his burnt out car; it soon becomes apparent that he had been severely beaten and shot before being placed in the car. The initial suspect is Dean Fallon; a local drug dealer and son of a recently released gangster who claims to be going straight. Things get a bit awkward for Jack when Dean recognises him from the cage fighting scene and starts goading him. There is little evidence against Dean and he seems to have an alibi; then another suspect emerges; the dead officer had been having an affair with a colleague's wife and that colleague was in possession of an illegal firearm! Other characters to keep an eye on are the father's somewhat shady lawyer and a car dealer and his girlfriend who are friends of Dean. As the story enters the second episode we learn that some people aren't who they appear to be and the stakes are raised when we learn of a plan to import a massive quantity of high-grade heroin.

This was a solid final story for this year's series; the mystery was interesting and contained a good number of twists; the most notable being when we learn that one character was in fact an undercover police officer. There were plenty of suspects so viewers should be kept guessing till quite late in the story but when the killer is finally exposed it isn't too big a surprise. All the investigations lead to a gripping conclusion where the police must face the armed villain. On the down side once again we have members of the team rather too involved in the case; a suspect knows Jack and then Nikki gets involved with one of the police officers in charge of the case; while these details didn't spoil the case I for one prefer stories were it is just an investigation without all the personal involvement.

Overstepping Their Bounds

This happened with CSI as well. Our forensic scientists seem to be doing more police work than investigative work. They are in on interrogations and watching during apprehensions and gunfire. I understand it would be hard to get much interest out of someone checking the computer for a fingerprint match. Still, they seem to have so much power in the overall investigations. They also seem to have some rather inappropriate stuff going on with the people they are working with. This was entertaining enough if you could overlook these diversions. It's still a heck of a show.

Burned and crashed.

This has been a really poor season.

The characters are dull, and the guest appearances haven't been that sublime either.

Stories have become so fanciful, they border on ridiculousness. The pathologists are taking the mantle of front line detectives. Why are they behind reflective glass in interrogation rooms?

Clarissa is the only one left in the lab most of the time doing actual forensic work. Chamberlain still hasn't really been introduced to us. What's the point of Jack? I assume he's eye candy. I don't much like the team. I even miss Harry given the current ensemble.

While I'm bored of the slicing up of life like looking cadavers, I'm not bored of forensics and a good who dunnit, where I get the chance to put some of the pieces together.

Sigh. Time to bin it, or mix it up me thinks.

As for this episode, it was barely captivating, much like the majority of this season.
