For all his life, Peter Quill had never known about his biological father. He learned more than he thought possible in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, but how did the movie come to an end?
The second installment of the Guardians of the Galaxy movies brought us more of Quill’s backstory. We learned that his father was actually a Celestial being who took on a human form and fell in love with Quill’s mother, Meredith. After her death, Ego ordered Yondu to collect Quill and bring the boy to him, but that never happened.
Of course, Quill wants to believe that his dad is a good guy. The man even starts to show Quill his own celestial powers and he learns how to control them. Since when are the powerful Celestial beings the good guys, though?

Zoe Saldaña played Gamora in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for nearly a decade, but the actress recently told Variety that she wishes she could reshoot her performance in the Avengers movies.
“I wish I could go back and reshoot what Gamora was going through in the ‘Avengers’ movies,” Saldaña said. “I was not quite understanding what the Russo Brothers [were doing]. They’re excellent filmmakers and the opportunity they gave me was of a lifetime. To highlight Gamora in such a way in their films is something I’ll always be grateful. I wish I could go back and redo it so I could push a little harder because it was such a great opportunity to play a daughter having issues with a dad and whether or not she’s having this opportunity to reconciliate or to simply just walk away. That would’ve been a great opportunity had I been a...

A Genre Too Big to Fail (So They Say) In 2022 alone so far, we’ve gotten Matt Reeves’s ‘The Batman,’ Sam Raimi’s ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,’ and of course (who can forget?) ‘Morbius.’ We’re not quite halfway into the year and we have three big-name superhero movies on our plate — and that’s actually a low number, compared to some past years. I remember, as clearly as if it were yesterday, that in 2017, we got ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2,’ ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming,’ ‘Thor: Ragnarok,’ ‘Justice League,’ ‘Logan,’ and ‘The Lego Batman Movie.’ There was at least one superhero movie for every season, and you simply couldn’t get away from them for long. I’m not saying this is entirely a bad thing, of course; after all, I do like most of the movies mentioned. I don’t think there’s much room for debate,...

Another year, another money-making Marvel movie in the running to receive an Oscar nomination for Best Visual Effects. This time around it’s “Deadpool and Wolverine,” the third film in Ryan Reynolds‘ R-rated series and the first featuring Hugh Jackman‘s popular “X-Men” character. If “Deadpool and Wolverine” goes on to reap a visual effects bid, it would be the 18th Marvel entry overall to do so, when including those that contended before the Marvel Cinematic Universe officially kicked off in 2008. See them all below.
The most recent addition to the list was “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” (2023), with its tech whizzes losing to the “Godzilla Minus One” team at last year’s Academy Awards. That was actually the third “Guardians” film to earn a Best Visual Effects nom after “Vol. 2” (it lost to “Blade Runner 2049” in 2017) and “Vol. 1” (it lost to “Interstellar” in 2014).

When people think of Basic Instinct, it’s hard to recall the movie without imagining Sharon Stone’s iconic performance as Catherine Tramell. But believe it or not, Stone’s journey to the film was marked by significant obstacles, starting from the audition to the credits. According to the actress, she was apparently one of the last people producers wanted, since they had their eyes set on a Marvel actress.

According to Sharon Stone, while she was the 13th person to be offered the role, producers actually wanted the Ant-Man and the Wasp star Michelle Pfeiffer to agree to the role of Catherine Tramell. Unfortunately, after Pfeiffer rejected and so did the other 11 actresses, Stone was eventually offered the role. But that wasn’t the end of her struggles—the actress revealed that she was not allowed to have her name on the poster.

One of the things that Disney+ has afforded the Marvel Cinematic Universe is the ability to explore corners of the universe that might not otherwise get the spotlight in the movies. This includes live-action shows like "WandaVision" and "Loki," but it also includes the two-season run of animated shorts "I Am Groot." This put the fan-favorite character from "Guardians of the Galaxy" in the spotlight, particularly Baby Groot, whom we got to know in "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2." Of all the episodes in the show's run, the director fought hardest for one above all the others.
Series director, writer, and executive producer Kirsten Lepore spoke with Marvel.com in 2023 timed to the release of "I Am Groot" season 2. During the conversation, she discussed the show's season 2 premiere, titled "Are You My Groot?" Lepore explained that this episode was the one she fought to make. Here's what she had to...

Superheroes and other comic book characters often cause significant destruction during battles. While they don’t intend for this to happen, collateral damage and casualties are inevitable. There are also times when heroes deliberately kill, believing it to be the only way to defeat their foes and secure victory.
While characters like Batman and Superman adhere to a “no-kill” policy, this approach is more of an exception than the norm. Superheroes generally don’t hesitate to eliminate their adversaries, whether they’re monsters, aliens, or other threats.
With that in mind, we’re going to examine the kill count of a notable comic book character, specifically his version from the MCU. The character in question is Yondu, a compelling and formidable figure, as you’ll see from his confirmed kill count below.

Superheroes and other comic book characters typically deal a lot of damage when they battle. Of course, the superheroes don’t mean for this to happen, but whether they like it or not, damage and casualties do happen. However, there are instances when heroes intentionally kill because it is the only way to defeat their enemies and achieve victory.
Superheroes like Batman or Superman may embrace a “no-kill” policy, but this is an exception rather than a rule. Whether they are monsters, extraterrestrials, or other enemies, superheroes typically don’t hesitate to kill them.
In light of that, we are going to talk about the kill count of a very important comic book character, or, more specifically, about the kill count of his version from the MCU. The character in question is Yondu, a very interesting character, and a proper badass, as you will see from his confirmed kill count below.

Longtime readers of superhero comics will be able to tell you that death is little more than an inconvenience. Famous characters are regularly killed, only to be resurrected several months later through whatever magical conceits the writers can invent. One might find that a superhero didn't actually die, but only fell into a Kryptonian coma. Or perhaps a compatriot of the deceased has access to black magic and can resurrect their dead friend with the help of a few handy spells. Time travel is also useful for retrieving a downed solider.
Now that the multiverse is part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, audiences everywhere are learning that there are no stakes whatsoever. If there are infinite parallel versions of every character, any one of them dying can be undone in a jiffy. One can merely hop over to a parallel universe, pick up a duplicate, and return without any consequences.

When Electric Light Orchestra made their Madison Square Garden debut on Feb. 11, 1977, they were near the zenith of their popularity due to a string of hits over the previous couple of years that included “Livin’ Thing,” “Rockaria!,” “Do Ya,” “Strange Magic,” and “Evil Woman.” But most critics were underwhelmed. “A typical Elo tune consists of doggerel affixed to a big, fat melody and repeated over and over again,” New York Times critic John Rockwell observed in his writeup of the show. “It’s all a little boring (to this listener...

In the "Star Trek: The Next Generation" episode "Manhunt", Betazoid ambassador Lwaxana Troi (Majel Barrett) hitches a ride on the Enterprise-d, partly to visit her daughter Deanna (Marina Sirtis), but mostly to flirt with Captain Picard (Patrick Stewart). It seems that Lwaxana is going through the Betazoid equivalent of menopause, and her libido is skyrocketing. As such, she seems determined to arrive at her destination with a husband in tow, and she doesn't really care who it might be.
Lwaxana Troi is a fun character for "Star Trek," as she is outspoken, charismatic, and tends to flout the buttoned-up formality that Starfleet officers abide by. Barrett played the role on six episodes of "Next Generation," and returned for three episodes of "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine." Her flippant demeanor allowed her to solve mysteries without thinking about it, and her stories tended to be personally dramatic rather than highfalutin sci-fi.

In a post-credit scene at the end of 2023's "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3," Chris Pratt's Peter Quill can be seen eating cereal with his grandpa, having returned to earth following the events of the film. That movie itself seemed like somewhat of a farewell to the ragtag hero team led by Quill, with director James Gunn delivering a heart-warming sendoff before departing for his role as head of the newly-formed DC Studios. At the end of the post-credit scene, however, on-screen text promised that "The Legendary Star-Lord Will Return," suggesting that while Gunn might be done with the saga, Pratt and Star-Lord were here to stay.
But without the director who'd taken the Guardians from a little-known Marvel property to a reliably popular blockbuster franchise, it was hard to imagine just how "legendary" Star-Lord's return would be. The tone of the "Guardians" movies was in large...

Sylvester Stallone has been a Hollywood staple for five full decades at this point. Dating back to his first turn as the underdog boxer Rocky Balboa in 1972's "Rocky," the actor has been a mainstay of the screen. Like any actor who has managed to stay in the game this long, Stallone has had his ups and downs, but he's still here and still relevant more than 50 years later. But what is the best movie that Stallone has ever been in? What is the defining moment of the actor's varied filmography?
Not that Rotten Tomatoes is the be-all, end-all for such a discussion, but the review aggregator is a measuring stick often used in the modern era. Well, according to Rotten Tomatoes, 2015's "Creed" stands tall above the rest of Stallone's films with a 95% approval rating. That is not all that surprising when we break it down (more on that...

There is something universally lovable about Kurt Russell. The actor actually started his career as a way to meet famous baseball players before getting signed on with Walt Disney and becoming a bonafide child star. After a gnarly injury forced him to retire from baseball and pursue acting full-time, he became a prolific performer who manages to make nearly everything he's in better just by his mere presence. From fluffy rom-coms like "Overboard" with future long-term partner Goldie Hawn to intense genre fare like "The Thing" to big blockbuster franchise flicks like "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2," Russell is able to fit into the fabric of just about any kind of film. He's incredibly charismatic even when playing antiheroes and downright villains, which makes his movies extremely rewatchable. But which are the most rewatchable?

In James Gunn's 2017 sci-fi film "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2," the would-be superhero Peter Quill (Chris Pratt), who insists that others call him Star-Lord, learned the shocking truth about his lineage. Peter previously assumed he was a mere human, abducted from Earth by aliens when he was 12. Peter only kept memories of Earth from what it looked like in the 1980s when he was taken. He listened to a vintage Earth Walkman, and was closely familiar with the pop culture of the time. The shock came when Peter finally met his actual biological father, a charming, powerful space deity called Ego (Kurt Russell).
At first, Peter was thrilled to learn that he was half space deity, and came to love his new dad, especially when they played catch and talked about their respective lives. Peter became disturbed, however, when he learned Ego's true M.O. for appearing in his life.

It wasn’t the action that piqued Dave Bautista’s interest in The Killer’s Game; it was the chance to play a proper romantic lead for the very first time. Like a lot of actors, Bautista is most intrigued by the roles that frighten him, and so the chance to play lovestruck assassin Joe Flood was something he’d been committed to intermittently since 2019. Based on The Killer’s Game novel by Jay Bonansinga, Flood is diagnosed with a neurodegenerative brain condition that leaves him with only months to live, so he takes out a contract on his own life so that the love of his life, Maize (Sofia Boutella), can collect his life insurance policy. The rub is that he was misdiagnosed by three different labs and it’s too late to cancel said contract.

When it came out, Marvel‘s Guardians of the Galaxy was one of the quirkier superhero movies on the market. Director James Gunn said he had to include a 1970s song in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 because he loved how weird it was. In addition, he initially wasn’t sure if the track in question was an authentic 1970s track or a modern song that was meant to sound retro.

It began with 2008’s “Iron Man,” a film that introduced the world to Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark with the hint that he could be part of something greater. Over 30 films later, the story of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is still being told, albeit with various tributaries and detours that introduce new characters and new worlds that may or may not cross paths one day. Each film in the MCU stands on its own to some degree, but like building blocks, they all connect as part of one interconnected universe. What would Marvel movies be without gratuitous pop songs? Looking Glass’ “Brandy (You’re a Fine Girl)” appears in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 to tug on the heartstrings. Here’s a look at why a member of the band disagreed with some of the film’s dialog.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 includes a lot of classic songs, including George Harrison’s “My Sweet Lord,” the Electric Light Orchestra’s “Mr. Blue Sky,” and Fleetwood Mac’s “The Chain.” However, the character Ego says that Looking Glass’ “Brandy (You’re a Fine Girl)” might be the finest musical composition in the history of Earth.
During a 2017 interview with the New York Post, Looking Glass singer Elliot Lurie dismissed the idea that Looking Glass’ “Brandy (You’re a Fine Girl)” was the best song ever.

Tom Holland may have earned his title as Marvel's least tight-lipped star, but the spoiler-happy "Spider-Man" actor is far from the only cast member in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to have let something slip over the years. Mark Ruffalo accidentally livestreamed the opening scenes of "Thor: Ragnarok" to Instagram at its world premiere, Gwyneth Paltrow told a magazine that Tony and Pepper would be married with a kid ahead of "Avengers: Endgame," and Owen Wilson once received a mysterious text message notifying him he'd crossed a line when sharing "Loki" scoops with the press.

VFX Supervisor Christopher Townsend counts a long list of MCU movies among his credits, including Captain America: The First Avenger, Iron Man 3, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Captain Marvel, and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.
Loki season 2 marked his first foray into streaming and, as we're sure you'll agree, it's one of Marvel Studios' most visually stunning projects out of all those we've seen on the big and small screens.
Last week, we were fortunate enough to sit down with the Emmy nominee ("Outstanding Special Visual Effects In A Season Or A Movie") to discuss his work on the God of Mischief's return to Disney+ last year.
He calls Loki "one of the highlights of my MCU career from a visual point of view" and we started at the end by asking about the already-iconic moment Loki transforms into God Loki.

Deadpool & Wolverine may be entering its third weekend in theaters but Marvel Studios' first R-Rated movie continues going from strength to strength at the worldwide box office.
After exceeding expectations yet again, Deadpool & Wolverine will cross $900 million worldwide later today. As of Tuesday, the threequel had earned $421 million in North America and $458.2 million overseas to bring its global cume to $879.2 million.
After 12 days in U.S. theaters, Deadpool & Wolverine has also topped the lifetime domestic grosses of MCU movies like Captain America: Civil War ($408.1 million), Iron Man 3 ($409 million), and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness ($411.3 million).
Ryan Reynolds has played coy about his MCU future but it's hard to imagine Disney allowing him or Hugh Jackman to escape its grasp after the massive success of this team-up. Yes, they'll be doing this until they're f***ing 90!
Current projections place Deadpool & Wolverine's eventual domestic haul somewhere around the $650 million mark.

Well, Kevin Feige should be happy. "Deadpool & Wolverine" has cameoed its way to an astonishing $200 million opening weekend. In fact, the Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman-starring blockbuster managed the sixth-biggest opening weekend in box office history, with a domestic total of $211 million and a worldwide total of $444.3 million.
Yes, the Merc with the Mouth has seemingly done the impossible and saved the Marvel Cinematic Universe from itself. Following a frankly bewildering cavalcade of MCU "content" over the past few years, the franchise almost managed to kill itself off. Now, Deadpool and his new buddy have at least shown there's life left in the saga yet — even if it did take a similarly bewildering series of cameos and unabashed fan service to do so.

7 Actors Who Have Played Multiple Roles In The MCU(Photo Credit –Instagram)
Late Saturday night, Robert Downey Jr. shocked fans when he took the stage at the San Diego Comic-Con and revealed he would be playing Doctor Doom. The Oppenheimer star, who played Tony Stark, aka Iron Man, for over a decade, will now portray the villainous Victor Von Doom, aka Doctor Doom, in the upcoming Avengers film.
After explosive reactions from fans worldwide, confusion set in. Fans were left wondering how a star ubiquitously known as the hero Iron Man in the MCU could now play a villain in the same franchise. While theories came flooding in, including speculation about Robert Downey Jr. Playing an evil Tony Stark variant (via Forbes), it should be noted that this is not the first time an actor has portrayed multiple roles in the MCU.

Star Trek’s Comic-Con panel Saturday revealed the trailer for the Discovery spinoff movie Section 31, with Michelle Yeoh reprising her role from that series.
For the non-Trekkies, Yeoh — before her Oscar win for Everything Everywhere All at Once — played two roles on Star Trek: Discovery, first as Captain Philippa Georgiou (who dies early on) and then, from the “mirror universe,” Emperor Philippa Georgiou.
It’s the latter, villainous character that Yeoh will be portraying in Section 31, the title of which references a secret division of Starfleet that deals with spycraft and covert operations.

Industry heavyweights Atticus Ross (“Shogun”), Michael Minkler (“Masters of the Air”) and Robert Elswit (“Ripley”) were among those who led the Creative Art Emmy nominations on Wednesday morning.
FX’s “Shogun” dominated the Emmy nominations Wednesday morning, landing 25 nods. The drama series based on James Clavell’s epic novel landed musician and composer Ross a nomination for music composition for a series while costume designer Carlos Rosario was also nominated.
Speaking with Variety, Rosario explained how he created over 2300 designs for the series set in feudal Japan.

Australian actress Elizabeth Debicki has surely come a long way since her first comedy movie, A Few Best Men, in 2011. While the actress had been the talk of the town, she gained major fame when she took on the role of Princess Diana in the Netflix original political drama The Crown.

Soon enough, she caught the eye of James Gunn, who got her on board for his Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017) and Vol. 3 (2023) as Ayesha, a high priestess of an alien race known as the Sovereign.
While this collaboration minted two successful movies, Debicki now reveals her entire experience working under the visionary filmmaker James Gunn.

Kurt Russell's most memorable character from his long history on the big screen, which stretches all the way back to when Walt Disney was still alive, is probably Snake Plissken from John Carpenter's classic sci-fi action movie "Escape from New York". But in an alternate universe, it could have been Han Solo or Luke Skywalker.
A few years before Snake Plissken came along, Russell was one of many actors who auditioned for the "Star Wars" roles that would eventually make Mark Hamill and Harrison Ford huge stars. However, George Lucas couldn't figure out which role he like Russell in better. With another job opportunity on the table to star in a Western TV series called "The Quest," Russell opted not to wait around for Lucas to make up his mind, withdrew from consideration, and the rest is history. But it would seem "Star Wars" still lingers in the back of Kurt Russell's mind.

After taking on the MCU multiverse, Chris Pratt isn’t ruling out a jaunt to the Dcu.
Following his recent visit with director James Gunn on the set of Superman, the actor said “there’s always a chance” he could make the franchise leap, but he played coy when it came to naming a character he’d like to play.
“I just have to leave that to the fans and people like James to decide,” Pratt told TMZ. “I’m not exactly sure. I’m truly not sure.
When asked flat-out if he’d join the competing franchise, Pratt didn’t hesitate in declaring, “Yes, of course”
“If it could fit into my schedule and it made sense, I would love it,” he continued. “Of course I love playing Star-Lord, and hopefully there’s a chance that can come back. I just feel so blessed to be able to do any of it,...

We're getting close to the release of "Deadpool & Wolverine," the only Marvel movie releasing in 2024, and arguably the biggest superhero film release since "Spider-Man: No Way Home." According to /Film's Ryan Scott, footage shown at this year's CinemaCon looked "funny, but not laugh-out-loud funny."
The film will see Deadpool taken out of the timeline by the Time Variance Authority and set out on a mission to change the history of the MCU. Along for the ride is one version of Hugh Jackman's Logan, aka Wolverine (just not necessarily one we've met before). One thing you should not expect this Wolverine to do is break the fourth wall like the Merc with a Mouth, because only Deadpool can break the fourth wall in a "Deadpool" movie.
Indeed, as director Shawn Levy told Vanity Fair, "There actually is a system here."
"There are rules. Very specific rules," Ryan Reynolds added.

Pom Klementieff first stole the show as Mantis in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Following a memorable supporting turn in Avengers: Infinity War, the actress was given more to sink her teeth into in The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
The latter served as a potential end for Mantis' story, though the door was also left open for the hero to eventually show up elsewhere in the MCU.

De-aging CGI has come a long way since the prologue to 2006's "X-Men: The Last Stand" turned Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen into abominations out of a Robert Zemeckis motion-capture nightmare. 2023's "Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny," for example, allowed an octogenarian Harrison Ford to shed several decades in a generally convincing manner for its own extended opening flashback. Yet, no matter how much the tech improves, this approach is always going to be hampered by the fact that our brains intuitively seek our flaws once we know something has been digitally-rendered (hence the uncanny valley effect). Going to the opposite extreme isn't necessarily the solution either, as practical makeup and effects aren't without similar limitations.
To quote one of the sacred texts of the internet: Why not both? That's exactly what "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" did for the opening scene in which the younger version...

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is known for pushing its boundaries every now and then. Being under Disney’s umbrella can be quite complicated for this effect; however, they have managed to find loopholes to help them through it. Some experiments when it comes to storytelling and thematics haven’t really worked for the franchise in the past few years. However, their biggest risk with the age ratings ended up performing excellently well.
Chris Pratt as Star-Lord in James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy | Marvel Entertainment
Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 3 was a masterpiece. The film established who the main character of the series was and did it in such a hard-hitting way that one could not help but leave the theaters in tears.
However, it is important to remember that the film took a lot of risks. While some were safer, some pushed the boundaries a little too much.

One who has had an active interest in joining the MCU is Jon Hamm, who says he has had continued conversations with the studio to officially join in…and there is one character he refused to play for a rival.

While Gosling was long rumored to have been cast as Nova in the MCU, an industry insider recently revealed that Gosling has been cast as Ghost Rider in an upcoming Ghost Rider and The Midnight Sons film.
