On Tuesday, March 5, Foo Fighters will take a rare detour from stadium, arena and amphitheater stages to perform at a private, one-night-only concert in Washington, D.C. hosted by Power to the Patients, a non-profit fighting for a more affordable, accessible, and equitable healthcare system through true price transparency.
Find out more about the concert here.
Hip hop legends Fat Joe and Chuck D will also be in attendance.
“When we were asked by Power to the Patients to help raise awareness of the need for transparency in healthcare pricing, we immediately said yes. People suffering from illness and injury shouldn’t have to worry about being bankrupted by surprise charges for their treatment.” — Foo Fighters
With lawmakers, government officials, and their dedicated staff in attendance, Foo Fighters will join the drive to raise awareness about the inequality and uncertainty created for millions of patients when hospitals and insurers hide actual upfront prices.

Ringo Starr was the drummer in the biggest band in the world, but he jokingly questioned whether or not he was known for his music. He’s been a musician for 60 years, jumping from The Beatles to a solo career to his work with the All-Starr Band. Still, he says there are two behaviors for which people probably know him best. Here’s what they are.
Ringo Starr joked that he isn’t best known for his music
Starr was a successful drummer in Liverpool circles by the time he joined The Beatles. From there, his fame increased exponentially. For most of the 1960s, the four Beatles were the most famous people in the world. Starr, who is now in his 80s, has been a household name since he was in his early 20s.
At this point, though, he wonders if he’s better known for his constant refrain of “peace and love.

Exclusive: Nashville’s famed Bluebird Cafe, the renowned songwriter-friendly venue that gave an early musical home to Taylor Swift, Garth Brooks, Faith Hill and many other country and pop stars, is getting the stage musical treatment. Bluebird, a new musical inspired by the cafe, is in the works from Something Rotten! co-creator Wayne Kirkpatrick and songwriter-producer Don Chaffer.
“The Bluebird is our Ryman Auditorium, our Carnegie Hall,” said Kirkpatrick. “If you know, you know. I can’t wait to share it with those who don’t.”
Sometimes called to “the Mother Church of Songwriting,” The Bluebird Cafe has, for the past 41 years, been a launching pad for countless songwriters and artists. Swift, for example, played the Nashville venue in 2004 when she was just 14. It was at the Bluebird, reportedly, that she was discovered by future Big Machine Records founder Scott Borchetta.

When Dave Grohl first heard a film studio was interested in making a horror movie with the Foo Fighters, he dismissed the notion. But when a former landlord emailed him about a vacant Encino property, the Foo frontman decided to make the most out of the “big creepy old house.” There, he wrote and recorded the band’s 10th album, “Medicine at Midnight,” in addition to filming “Studio 666” — a once “stupid idea” transformed into a feature film starring the Foo Fighters. The movie debuts Feb. 25 in limited release.
Ahead of the film’s arrival, Grohl sat down with Variety to discuss “Studio 666,” along with his real-life ghost story and the metal album he recorded as fictional band Dream Widow.
When and how did the idea of “Studio 666” come to you?

Dave Grohl hasn’t sat still for more than 30 years, so it’s not much of a surprise that he’s ended up creating and starring in his own feature film.
As Pat Smear, one of the founders of L.A. punk legends The Germs, touring guitarist in Nirvana and a cornerstone of Grohl’s Foo Fighters, told him, “Drummers are like sharks, if they stop moving, they’ll die.”
In Studio 666, a horror comedy in the vein of The Evil Dead, perpetual movement doesn’t necessarily prevent death either. (Watch the trailer below.)
Grohl, who came up with the idea of the Open Road Films-distributed film that debuts theatrically on February 25, is a fascinating creature.

Exclusive: Think A Hard Day’s Night of the Living Dead, with laughs among the scares and splatter, and you’ve got a handle on Studio 666. Dave Grohl and his Foo Fighters bandmates star in a film they shot in secret, about what happens when the legendary rock band rents an Encino mansion steeped in grisly rock and roll history, to record their 10th album. Trouble is, frontman Grohl is creatively blocked, and when evil forces in the house sink into his consciousness, the creative juices begin flowing but so does the blood. Can Foo Fighters’ complete the album, with the band still alive to tour?

For his latest rockumentary “What Drives Us,” Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl has decided to go back to his roots and explore why touring in vans across the country has become a universal rite of passage for rock stars.
In the film, Grohl speaks with an assortment of rock legends both new and old about their experiences that all started from the back of a rusty old van and how they changed with their music along the way.
“What happens in a van is a foundation. It creates this unique perspective that we all share,” Grohl says in the trailer. “A lot of the attraction to doing this was the unknown. You were free.”
“What Drives Us” is Grohl’s latest documentary film since directing “Sound City” in 2013 and the 2014 docuseries “Sonic Highways” that explored the musical roots of eight different American cities, culminating in Foo Fighters recording a song in each.

Foo Fighters have been a reliable alt-rock institution for more than 25 years. A band with that kind of august track record could get bored or complacent with their job. But Dave Grohl and Co. just keep happily chugging along, putting out solid-to-great records, satisfying their enormous fan base with killer stadium shows, and keeping things fresh for themselves by coming up with interesting concepts (like their 2014 HBO doc series/album Sonic Highways) and tossed-off collaborations with pals like Justin Timberlake, Rick Astley, or Serj Tankian.

“Play,” arriving on Aug. 10, is described as “celebrating the rewards and challenges of dedicating ones life to playing and mastering a musical instrument.” Grohl has long advocated for music education and the importance of learning to play an instrument. Part one is mostly narrated and offers a look at the music-making process.

While Dave Letterman signed off from his show with a Foo Fighters’ song, frontman Dave Grohl is using their own music to keep his own series going, Sonic Highways.

The format of the show is such that Grohl could continue and explore rock history across other parts of the world.

Sonic Highways was named for an eight-part documentary miniseries that aired on HBO in 2014, in which Grohl and company visited cities across America and interviewed famous musicians from the region to get a grasp of the musical history that defined the sound from that region. The format of the show is such that Grohl could continue and explore rock history across other parts of the world.

A Most Violent Year I was not the fan most were of J.C. Chandor's A Most Violent Year. It was one of those movies I respected more than enjoyed for its aesthetic, its approach to the genre and the performances. However, as I wrote in my review, I felt it was "a movie that feels like it's trying to be something rather than actually being that something." A second viewing may give me a little more respect for its narrative, but that's where I sit right now.

Saturday Night Live, Season 40, Episode 15, “Chris Hemsworth/Zac Brown Band”
Aired March 7, 2015 at 11:30 pm Et on NBC (East coast version watched for review)
Sometimes it’s hard to tell why SNL is worth watching, but then one sees Chris Hemsworth romance a chicken, and is completely reassured that all the late night hours have been worth it.
The Host: Chris Hemsworth has played Thor in “four movies: Thor 1, Thor 2, The Avengers, and Gone Girl.” And seeing as how America pretty clearly rejected hacker Hemsworth in Blackhat, the public is going to associate his chiseled looks with the norse deity for the foreseeable future. While this certainly isn’t a bad thing, because Hemsworth was more or less tailor made to play Thor, he has a perfect level of movie star charm on display tonight that he hopefully can one day transfer into a post Marvel career. After a 21 month hiatus, Harmonix is resurrecting the rock, as the developer announced plans to release new Dlc for Rock Band 3 and Rock Band Blitz. The content, which is scheduled for release tomorrow, will be available on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Sorry Nintendo Wii owners.
While the Rock Band series was known to cover a wide variety of genres, the output for this week consists of nothing but solid rock. Fan favorites Avenged Sevenfold return to the series with “Shepherd of Fire,” which comes from the band’s 2013 release, Hail to the King. Another series mainstay, Foo Fighters, also make their return this week, as “Something from Nothing,” from their 2014 release, Sonic Highways, will be available.
Rounding out the releases for this week is the Rock Band debut of Arctic Monkeys. The Grammy Award winning UK act has long been requested by fans of the franchise, and this week’s release of “R U Mine?...

Foo Fighters Sonic Highways, Season 1, Episodes 1-8
Written by Mark Monroe

Airs Fridays at 9pm Et on HBO
If Rock and Roll and guitar rock is a dying breed, then the rock-doc is certainly becoming a quaint relic. How many documentaries can you make in which an aging rock star waxes poetic about a type of music from 40 years earlier? How much nostalgia, history and navel gazing can you pack into the genre before even the documentaries move on to being nostalgic about boy bands, Taylor Swift and Edm?
As a fan of true guitar rock, a good rock-doc is a welcome diversion from the 21st Century music industry. And yet, a film like last year’s Muscle Shoals can’t help but feel stale. Complete with endless talking heads and anecdotes about old legends who performed in long gone studios, the film aimed to capture...

As some of you may know, I'm a bit of a jack(ass) of all trades. I follow the film industry for Lr, and critique films. But I'm also an actor, I front a rock band, I'm a DJ, film editor, and director as well. Basically, when it comes to entertainment, there's nothing I don't do. For some time now, I've been mulling over bringing some of my other interests to Lr, and I'll be starting with the SAG Awards. How? Well, I've been a member of SAG for 6 years now and I also am part of the voting process. That means every year I am sent screeners of all the films being considered for awards.
Here's where a new running feature comes into play:
As I start receiving these screeners, I will write special reviews for each one and publish them here. Then, as we near the voting deadline,...

It seems about every six months a new relic from Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain’s past is dug up, continually adding to the mystique of Generation X’s most iconic and influential figure who went too soon. And while numerous sources have mined his history and documented his troubled final days, HBO has received unprecedented access to unearthed Nirvana tracks and solo Cobain material, and it will be the first done in cooperation with the Cobain family and estate.

Foo Fighters are taking America by storm. In the wake of "Sonic Highways'" Nov. 10 release, Dave Grohl, Taylor Hawkins, Chris Shiflett, Nate Mendel and Pat Smear have slated their largest North American tour to date for the summer and fall of 2015, the band announced today.
