Interesting first half but falls badly in second..
dipayandas19932 February 2015
Whats wrong with Vikram Bhatt??? i mean to say why a sensible intelligent man like Vikram Bhatt choose to write such a stupid script.. i am a big fan of him but Khamoshiyan disappoint me a lot..

Only the actor Ali Fazal and the soulful voice of Arijit Singh are the plus point of the movie..

Direction is fair enough in first half but once the secret reveals it looks like boring.

Ali Fazal has done a good job.

In one line "This Khamoshiyan is too LOUD..."

*Avoidable* Good by bolly Horrors..!
bobishmp-843-31731931 January 2015
Its very sad to see such mockery in the genre "Horror",( sorry they don't need horror no longer, they got a sub genre called erotic horror/erotic thriller or simply horrex)..The most pathetic fact is that we will get even more better story from some old B grade horror films..

Scare, sex the pattern is itself repeating, and be honest it disappoints by all the way.. The plot is very ridiculous and unbelievable.. Why they are repeating the tested formula of "Main stream B grade" films..

I don't want to say the story, you can guess it ! What was so raunchy and erotic in the movie that it got an A certificate? At once you would be clueless seeing Sapna Pabbi stripping off and then Ali Fazal trying to make love to her in the very first meet!! Don't waste your time by watching this so called horror film! One minute silence please!

A Promising Plot Gets Thrown To The Dogs
varunkhandare25 May 2017
By and large, I'm not a fan of Bollywood Cinema (don't like that term much either, Bollywood and not cinema, just to be clear). There are definitely a few good filmmakers in India whose films are worth watching. However, most of the dynastic studios keep churning out the same old mediocre trash in the name of filmmaking and Khamoshiyan from the Bhatt camp is a perfect example of this.

Against my better judgement, I decided to watch this film for two reasons. Namely, Ali Fazal and the gorgeous locales of South Africa. I caught a glimpse of the scenery in the trailer and having lived in that country till some years back, I was simply hoping to revisit it through this film if nothing else. Unfortunately, the very first shock came when they attempted to pass it all off as Kashmir (and Bombay in one scene) instead. Really, who in their right mind would want to do that? If Kashmir is what they wanted, the film could have been easily shot in India.

Coming to the film itself, it's a mind-numbing amalgamation of a confusing storyline coupled with average on-screen performances and terrible CGI. It tries to do too much, and as a result, manages to get it all bogged down instead. For What it's worth, the plot could have worked a lot better had it been developed the right way by some capable storytellers.

Gosh, another Bollywood erotic horror-thriller to numb the minds of cinema lovers.
ahegde31491 March 2015
What on earth are these movie-makers thinking?!? Just put in few hot scenes with romantic songs and people will merrily watch the film with their mouths open? Forget about horror, this film glorifies the cheap mentality of Indian film makers. In fact I am the biggest fool to waste my time on these crap films. Horror genre is losing its hold day by day not only in Bollywood but also in Hollywood. I know it is difficult to bring up an entirely original horror story these days, but at least deliver a few scares (even jump scares would do).

Here a writer Kabir (Habib Faisal) goes into the wilderness of Jammu to write a novel. No prize for guessing that he stays in a creepy lakeside lodge. The lodge is managed by a single woman Meera (Sapna Pabbi) whose husband Jaidev(Gurmeet Chaudhary) is ill. Soon our writer starts experiencing spooky activities like seeing scary reflections in glass, opening doors, etc. which were more comedy than scary. The wheels wear off even before the ride begins. The suspense and reveal behind the scary events was hilarious. Actually number of times I laughed at the scary moments is more than the number of times I was scared. Not a single moment was scary. By the time we reached the climax ridiculed with pathetic CGI and absurd ho-hums I was least bothered.

With forced romance and songs (a few good ones thanks to Arijit Singh), Khamoshiyan is just another horrex film of Bollywood which I should not have bothered to watch. After the horrendous 'Alone' just a few weeks ago, we have another one in the same month. How desperate can these film-makers be? 2015 so far has been really pathetic for Bollywood with horrible duds like 'Tevar', 'Alone','Dolly ki Doli','Hawaizaada' and now 'Khamoshiyan'. Do yourself a favor and don't waste your time on this crap.

worst horror movie i have ever seen
bhanu-rajpurohitt31 January 2015
Horror part=1/10 Romantic part=1/10 Logical part=1/10 This movie is completely logic less from the ghost to the petrol pump shown as a jammu petrol pump.. this movie has no proper direction. acting of sapna pebby is too bad. Don't waste ur money by watching this ridiculous movie.... movie stats with a writer searching for a story and leaves for jammu which in real is cape town. there he meets meera and useless horror scenes tease you... with a butterfly scene a bedridden jaidev who is deciple of evil worship devil by cutting the head of a cock and drinking its blood. its completely a ridiculous story even i don't remember that crap... only three people in entire hall

a nice horror flick after long time
n_dhruv31 January 2015
Khamoshiyan is first film of Gurmeet Choudhary and Sapna Pabbi. No one will say that this is the first movie of Karan Darra as director.Music is composed by Jeet Ganguly and Ankit Tiwari and its superb.

Ali Fazal as kabir as novel writer with grey shades has done a nice job.Gurmeet Choudhary is playing negative role as Jaidev. He is probably good in all scenes but impressive in post interval sequences.Sapna Pabbi is so stunning and hot in some sequences.Vikram Bhatt who has written the story of the movie will be seen as Ali's friend and book editor.

Overall, after long time bollywood gave a nice horror flick.1st half is engaging and leave you in interval with so many questions.2nd half could have been much better.

Another routine, vague attempt to fool the lovers of horror genre.
bobbysing19 March 2015
Its really amazing to see what Hindi film directors mainly led by Vikram Bhatt, are doing with the Horror genre in the industry since RGV stopped making his scary flicks. Certainly they are fearlessly declaring the audience nothing more than fools loving this particular genre, who can be served anything in the name of horror along with few good songs and intense sexual scenes performed by some good faces. In fact that seems to be the only guideline to make these films and KHAMOSHIYAN is yet another absurdity tried with a silly conviction on the screen promoted well before its release through some bold press conferences.

To accept the impact, I was really impressed the way Sapna Pabbi was handling the press confidently before the release answering the questions asked on her sexual scenes so willingly. It really looked like as if they have a good project in hands and pretty sure of its success in advance. However the 2 hour film simply proved that it was over- confidence instead of confidence and perhaps an intentional coaching provided by the Bhatts that the girl was speaking so bravely about her major break and the bold scenes in front of the journalists.

Beginning on an all seen before, lame note the film keeps moving on a routine, boring path till the interval and one simply feels nothing watching the sudden emotional outburst between the lead pair without any believable justification given in its mediocre screenplay. The second half brings in the demon and the twist but a hangover of cult films like THE EXORCIST and Hitchcock's PSYCHO is clearly visible used in a pretty lousy and unimpressive manner by the debutant director Karan Darra. With all ordinary graphical representations of a butterfly or a dog it fails in the cinematography or background score department too gaining the only goods marks in picturising the fine tracks. Moreover its every location/set or art direction strongly reminded me of the team's earlier venture CREATURE too because of the clear similarities.

As far as performances are concerned Ali Fazal is a good actor but gets nothing great to do in this badly written film. Gurmeet Chaudhury also remains handicapped due to the short role offered without any meat and Sapna Pabbi looks sensuous, displaying her sex appeal well but does nothing more than that unfortunately. Probably she might be able to perform much better in an intense emotional drama with those appealing eyes keeping in mind her better act in the TV series 24. Anyway having such a limited star cast KHAMOSHIYAN once again reveals that Vikram is vaguely making his films on a set, safe format ensuring minimum losses if not profits with music proving to be the backbone of his projects as always.

Hence following the same pattern, the only USP of KHAMOSHIYAN is its soundtrack alone with few fine composition and lyrics led by the title song that sadly comes in the film just at the wrong moment. An early sequence in it has the famous "Aayega Aanawala" song too playing in the backdrop. But the film simply has got no merit to be associated with that cult classic MAHAL still remembered for his haunting music and entertaining suspense even after six decades.

In short neither sex nor music was able to stop me from taking few quick naps in the theater and I am still wondering why was this made and for whom?

(On a lighter note : A scene in the film had a strange board reading "Hindu Shamshaan Bhoomi"……… now certainly that needs to be opposed on secular grounds! :))

Silenced!
namashi_114 April 2015
'Khamoshiyan' rides on a stunning premise, but what is eventually served, is under-whelming. The sole saving grace is its melodious music.

'Khamoshiyan' Synopsis: An erotic love triangle revolving around a writer adrift in the icy slopes of Kashmir where he discovers a woman with a strange, silent past.

The problem with 'Khamoshiyan' is its Screenplay Written by Vikram Bhatt. It's so confused between being an erotica and a horror/thriller, that it never achieves its aim. Despite a few spine-chilling moments in the first-hour, the second-hour is devoid of scares or thrills. How one wishes if Bhatt simply concentrated on just one particular genre.

Karan Darra's Direction is claustrophobic. Cinematography captures some moments well. Editing is fair. Music by Various Artists, is fabulous. Each & Every song is melodious.

Performance-Wise: Ali Faizal is earnest, but not memorable! Sapna Pabbi looks gorgeous, but is leaps away from being called an actress. Gurmeet Chaudhary hams. He's more funny, than being vicious.

On the whole, 'Khamoshiyan' is a great idea, gone wrong.

Such Time Pass Movie
shyamjee0085 February 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Khamoshiyan is just time pass movie i believe . although song is really appreciable because been sang by Arjeet Singh lovable song. This is all about missing story which has been able to full-fill the expectation . It's Good to see new actor got chance to inter in this industry from T.V Serials. Movie should have cleared a concept or story. And the other thing i noticed in movie from start to end nothing like a WOW point .Bikram Bhatt he written down so many other horror movie early of this.1st half is engaging and leave you in interval with so many questions.2nd half could have been much better.I'll go with 1.1/10. Music is composed by Jeet Ganguly and Ankit Tiwari and its superb.

Staple Bhatt fare!!
nadkarnisumeet1 February 2021
Khamoshiyan review :

What would you do if you checked in as the only visitor in an isolated spooky guest house run by a mysterious woman..... Obviously you would flee from the place fast and quick, rite?! No, Apparently not if you are a character from Vikram Bhatt written- Mukesh & Mahesh Bhatt produced Khamoshiyan. Here, you would continue to stay at the haunted place (Ali Fazal), fantasize bedding Miss. Mystery (Sapna Pabbi) in those eerie conditions, and wait to discover the secret of her terminally ill husband (Gurmeet Chowdhary). Welcome then, to the staple Bhatt formula!

A formula which blends sex and horror, throws in couple of hummable numbers, gives chance to newcomers/ in-house groomed cast to keep the budget tight and churn out a well marketed film which earns a decent profit by end of its first week. Yeah sure, everyone is happy, the Bhatts make their money and move on to their next vehicle. Their formula doesn't change. In that sense, this film could have passed off as "Murder 4", "Jannat 3" or even a "Raaz 4D" if it had Emran Hashmi or Bipasha Basu in the lead.

Only this time, the lead actors cannot carry the outdated plot on their shoulders. Ali Fazal pitches in a laboured and uninspiring act. Sapna Pabbi, while easy on eyes, is sore on the acting front. And Gurmeet Chowdhary, to put it mildly, should stick to TV serials only.

On the tech front, the musical score is catchy, especially the title song which is well picturized. The VFX effects are strictly okie dokie. Editing by Kuldip Mehan is crisp at just over 2 hours.

All said and endured, Khamoshiyan could have possibly worked as an erotica with a Bipasha Basu or a Sunny Leone in the lead. Sapna Pabbi can't save it for sure!!

Regards, Sumeet Nadkarni.

Just watch it, you won't regret
dbratanu28 March 2015
Yes, it is at last, a new fresh uncommon suspense, romantic, beautiful thriller from Bollywood. Forget all its ads, its reviews, it's not a sex movie, no threesome,no B grade horror flick. It's a beautiful romantic suspense movie. Remember the dusty looks of Sapna Pabbi, bearded look of Ali Fazal, remember how they are looking each other, lyrical songs for zen x too, South Africa locations, what more you want. How do you forget the scene when the cannibal butterfly goes to the bottle to smell the fresh blood. The actors tried hard to their best. Sometimes, may be it seems their immaturity, but they should have chances for future. Far better than NH10. Far less violence and blood & gore than many movies. May be its horror parts think you as totally fictitious. But suspense may compensate them. A new level of romantic suspense in Bollywood. So, if you try to make anything better, then you do it. That's I say at first, it's a classic try by the uncommon director, actors. Just watch it, don't think twice.

A complete mysterious fim.
steffycyril13 April 2020
The film has all the elements of a Mahesh Bhatt film.It is a gripping one which will make us sit till the end.It is steamy hot. From the starting it makes us more curious. The entry of the heroine give us the feel that she is a ghost or is possessed. The hero's dream of being with her becomes true.It is ghostly enough but different from all other Ghost films. But the villain had to kill himself because of his activities. When she came and laid down and acted like she did not see it ,Why the hell did he come and wake her up?He also told Meera that this is black magic. He bought death to himself.Had he been smart ,he would have found other ways like getting that letter to her without dying. That way he would not have died.In every scenes we see new pictures in the house. Even when the helper says that he is from other world ,the hero does not fear. That's brilliant. The hero comes as a hope to the heroine .What the helper says is evident in the story. What he says is that the hero will get the hope, but to complete that hope ,he has to come back here.i.e. where he is standing.Meera is trying to control her emotions but in vain. The villain is superb. The songs are also minimal and at required points. All the songs are just made for the film. The bgm is also very beautifully done. The cast is also amazing. After many years ,this is the film that i like to watch.Love games ,Jannat,Murder wow. They're all amazing. They've created the same magic. Lovely movie.Hatsoff to casting.

Naive
teodoramonika2 August 2022
3/10.

A very naive, predictable and thin story. It looked more like a children's fairy tale where the prince has to save the princess than a horror movie. Also, the music tracks in the film completely spoil the impression and detract from the "creepy" part, if anyone finds this film creepy at all.

Gripping 1st Half Slow & Unrealistic 2nd Half Average Acting Performances Awesome Music
ayaanbhojani8 May 2022
Gave it a watch for the first time since it's release way bck in 2015, Khamoshiyan is a good horror romantic thriller with a decent n gripping 1st half with slow n unrealistic 2nd half(mostly during the end credits). Ali fazal acts well bt I felt tht for such kind of films some other actors would suit n mostly it's Emraan hashmi, Gurmeet Chaudhry ws decent and atleast wld say he suited the role he plays, Sapna paabi is Zero in terms of acting- her Hindi first of all is so damn accented n plus her Expressions also have no impact I really dnt understand wt the makers saw in her whilst casting. Overall the film is a decent one time thriller with some horror elements and gripping 1st half. I rate it a 6.3/10 starz.

Awesome Horror Movie
eshban-815648 August 2015
I am very fond of horror movies and have watched many horror movies in my life. SO due to my interest I got a chance to see this movie. Overall, I loved the entire movie and if you are a fan of horror movies then do not leave this movie. It is one of the best horror movies of Indian Cinema. You will really enjoy it. And you cannot leave the movie in the middle. Locations are great and cameraman did a great work. I love the one song 'Baatain bhi kabhie na'. Go and watch because it will not bore you.. Highly Recommended! Regarding the actors, they also did a great job and main thing is story which is different and perfect. Animations are good not very boring. You will really save it in your movies collection.

Great Movie !!!!! Loved It
shkkhurshid31 January 2015
Finally A movie which has met some of our expectations.even though the movie might not be the best but trust me it isn't that bad either.leave the critics just don't listen to them they are paid for their jobs.starting with the cast its just superb sapna pabbi and ali fazal had a great chemistry and both of them look awesome.the sound track too was great specially the song khamoshiyaan and tu har lamha my favorite.the story is little different as well though i don't want to expose that as it is something which you need to see by yourself.i would say that it wasn't the best horror movie but i can definitely say that if you choose this one for the weekend you surely wont regret.Just forget the critics and watch it in the cinema.you will like it.

Amazing movie
kingspizza22 February 2015
the movie is a good one. Its worth watching. Music is very sensational and deep. Acting also goes well. Erotic scenes are well but could be more. I love the first half of the movie. It is a fun filled pack overall. Ali goes well. The girl also has one well. Loved watching it. I enjoyed watching it. Especially the erotic scenes and the music holds the attention. The girl has tried her best to do well. Her husband's role is also performed very well, but there could be some space for more for him.I watched it and enjoyed whole of the time. It is a worth watching movie, but still has some confusions at the end, which i was unable to understand. Bheeg loon track is the best of all songs.

A Descent one-time watch
mridulm8430 January 2015
Horror and erotic are two different genres and to mix it with romance is not easy. Set in the exotic Kashmir, old guest house, creepy sounds, eerie atmosphere...Khamosiyan had all the elements but somehow it failed to make a long lasting impression. Khamosiyan did that well to the extent of 1st half, but the 2nd half ran out of ideas and looks hurriedly done. Vikram Bhatt's story tries to portray too many in one film. Story builds up at good pace but then started to drag back. Overall an one time watch. It tends to follow usual Bhatt banner horror thriller films. Descent acting, good location, good songs, descent direction. It may or may not work. It is not entirely rubbish ,actually it gives you a breathe from the typical horror genre. But it would have been great had it would add more suspense element in the 2nd half too. On my view if you have 2 hours to spend and you like these kind of stuffs then you should watch it to find out the secrets.
