The Missing Side
tomasmmc-7719817 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This episode gets back somehow to the original track, moreless, by showing some deserved missing parts of the story. Some of the terrible decisions took on the episode 364 stayed behind, at least for a while. Naruto has passed a huge reserve of chakra accumulated by the Kyuubi who knows how, to all the surviving members of the Alliance. Now they keep fighting the Juubi, who sends a big fire attack ordered by Madara. Still, the Fox cloak protects everyone around. Obito throws several kunais, while Madara throws sharp discs with Susanoo, but each tail from the cloaks on each shinobi deflect them. Sakura (Finally!! Is returned a little protagonism), shows concerns for Naruto, pondering how he will be able to sustain such amount of energy protecting so many shinobis, as she starts noticing him holding on hardly. Obito tries to surprise Naruto, but Kakashi warns him, so he evades it. Obito observes that he is only defending himself and the others, so asks what's the point, if he is just getting weaker. Kurama also warns Naruto about how much energy he is using to protect everyone, he'll end up exhausted, besides, the Juubi is quiet accumulating chakra. Naruto then tells Obito that he doesn't understand him because he is alone. But the Uchiha keeps pushing him, asking why he protects his friends if their death still holds the bond. Naruto defends his words, that he will hold anything for his friends, that's what he meant. Sakura, Kakashi, Hinata, Kiba, Shikamaru, Choji, Ino, Shee and others smile to hear this. Sakura says her "tic" word Shannaro. Kakashi wonders what Obito is trying to prove. In the meantime, Madara detects a presence..., there's no doubt, Hashiramaa!!! Then, the juubi evolves and his deformed arms finally are regenerated, a blast comes, and gets out of the Rock sand trap. Kurama warns Naruto that this is bad, while Obito realizes that they will lose control if he doesn't become the jinchuriki. Kakashi is cautious, and decides to use Kamui against the monster, but Obito surprises him, and uses his jutsu to teleport them to the other dimension. Before disappearing, Kakashi encharges the battle to Naruto. The Juubi begins his next attack, which consists in a huge blast of energy, sending a huge impact wave that turns everybody down. The cloak protects everyone, but Naruto is forced to return his normal mode, and gets on his knee, tired. Still, he senses the presence of the Bijuus inside himself, and feels with the will to stay strong. Madara says that he can't resist anymore, and says he has found something more interesting. Hinata asks the others to join forces, while Sakura goes right behind Naruto, and starts healing him from his back. This part was well done overall. Finally were returned some moments of protagonism, opinions, words to Kakashi and, especially, Sakura, the two persons who spent more time with Naruto during all the story. From the last two episodes of the battle, they were unfairly sidelined. Now, showing Sakura's worries tell that obviously she is the one who knows Naruto better, she guessed how much energy the cloaks were taking from him, something also Kurama was aware of. That's why she inmediatly realized she had to heal him, helping to restore his energy. About the rest, was strange to see Obito discusing with Naruto, as Kakashi noticed, there's something personal behind it. Then, the Juubi's transformations seem endless. I thought it was an incomplete monster, without two Bijuus, so I think the deformed one, or the first form even, were more coherent. It's not clear or coherent what is happening.

Then, in the other dimension, Kakashi attempts to stab Obito with the Raikiri, but he can't. Obito is aware that his old friend doubts and cannot kill him, like haunted by his past mistakes. The last time (when Kurama sent him), he had a chance, so Obito was surprised to see Kakashi showing mercy to an enemy in battle. He asks is he feels guilty, if he wants to convert him. Kakashi reminds that the old Obito and Naruto are similar, with the same dream, so asks him to return, thinking it's not too late (it is). But Obito laughs, and says that is because he understands Naruto, that wants to hear him and deny him at the same time. He adds that he shouldn't feel guilty for what happened to Rin. He didn't start this war just for them. He knows the whole story, and lets himself to be stabbed with the Raikiri. Kakashi is shocked, saddened, and is revealed the other side of the story. That time, Rin was captured by shinobis from Kirigakure and converted in the jinchuriki of the Sanbi (surely before Yagura). A squad of Konoha was sent to retrieve her, and Kakashi managed to rescue her with the help of his hounds. But this was part of Kirigakure's plan. In the road back to Konoha, Rin tried to tell Kakashi that she had something inside her, and that she'd be used to attack Konoha. She was aware of what happened, of the Sanbi, and asked Kakashi to kill her, but he refused because he promised Obito that he would protect her. The Kiri ninjas pretended to chase them while they were apporaching the village, so Kakashi decided to eliminate them. But then, Rin got in the middle of his Raikiri, to die in the hands of the man she loved in order to protect Konoha. So Obito says that he doesn't care anymore about him, if Kakashi couldn't save Rin, he is a fake Kakashi. If Rin was killed, she was fake, because the real Rin must be alive. The ninja system that created all this, the village, made him lose hope. This fake world. Kakashi reminds him of Naruto's words, that the most painful was to not have your friends in the heart. He told him the same words the old Obito said, but Obito shouts "Look!! There's nothing in my heart. I don't feel anything. I don't even feel pain. You don't have to feel guilty Kakashi. This windhole was opened by this hell of a world!" Kakashi remains stunned, frozen to see Obito like this. He continues, he had only pain, so he abandoned it all. "And you...You've been suffering all this whole time... No? In front of Rin's grave... And mine as well. It's ok Kakashi. You don't have to suffer anymore." He tempts him with visions of Rin and the old Obito, to fill the hole in his heart, but Kakashi makes them fade away. He assures that Rin is dead, but she gave her life to protect Konoha. He asks him not to forget his memories of her. No illusions will ever fill the hole in his heart. Brilliant scene. Outstanding. Touching, emotive, shaking. Can reach the heart of any person who feels desperate or empty on life. To Kakashi, should have been very tempting. Obito has seen him before Rin's grave, his own memorial, and surely before his father's grave. He knows well how much he suffered. He has lost his mind, but had accepted Madara's reasoning that in the world there's too much misery, death, pain, and suffering, surpassing the goodness. That hell of a world created a hole in his heart, the war which placed him on that cave, where the accident left him crushed and disabled. He ended up with an artificial body (I always thought that his heart was fine, but now looks it was damaged as well), alive thanks to the vegetal cells of white Zetsu (The so called Hashirama's cells). Only his brain and legs work somehow, for what I guess. Obito can't be blamed for ending like he did. Kakashi should also realize that is useless to reason with him. His life was ruined from the moment of the accident, where he should have died. Then, obviously Kakashi is strong enough to resist temptation because he gained other things to fill the void of his heart, as he said when he lectured Sasuke. He won persons like Naruto, Sakura, and kept the friendship of Gai, Asuma, Tsunade, Jiraiya. He found reasons to live for. To finish, the missing side of Rin's story was needed. She had a tragic end, curiously not so much time after Obito's accident. Kirigakure really was a cruel village, even before the bloodiest times of Tobi and the 4th Mizukage. The question is why her. Only Madara has the answer. For all this, no wonder why Obito lost his mind. He didn't have his parents, any siblings, and the only light he saw on his life, was turned off by the cruel story.
