Excellent

I won't say much. This standup has the "helicopter story", a truly masterful comedic act that will make it to history. Bill Burr is an icon.

Dig the minimalism

Excellent showcase: A man with a mic who takes you on a one-man comedic ride. Shot (or post-processed) monochromatic. And it sometimes reminds me of Kubrick; It's not hard to find a frame where that b/w looks beautiful; good balance and a somewhat "stark" look (low ambient light) that lends Burr an iconic look--particularly when he makes a face... which he does quite a bit in this show.

If you don't like cussing, skip it. Funny thing I've reflected upon wrt to Burr (and Oswalt, and...): Seinfeld often says that cussing in stand-up comedy is a shortcut; by which he means (sort of) cheating; hedging your bets with material short on genuine laughs by appealing to folks' prurience.

Well, Burr, et.al., put the lie to that. If there's anywhere that Burr cheats, it's in his way of morally shooting from the hip. But that doesn't daunt me: Even when I disagree with his moral calculus, I'm sincerely thankful for his shining, genuine humor, which is the stuff that *truly* covers a Multitude of Sins (as we all know, IFF we've kept *our* senses of humor!).

So this cussing hasn't stopped Seinfeld from hosting this ilk on his Cars/Coffee show... and is it a purely marketing decision (keeping "hep" with "the youth")? I think not!

I would be remiss not to point out that Burr has a very finely tuned comic instrument, which complements his comedic sensibility perfectly.

Enjoy!

most polished work

Any seasoned fan of standup will appreciate the boston brawler at his cynical, repugnant, patronising best. He tears into societal standards and expectations in unabashedly unique style. Simultaneously aggressive yet sardonic. Educated and versed while shooting unapologetically from the hip. His religion bit is profound and brave, clearly depictingl internal struggles while steering completely clear of sentimentality. Watch the ginger prophet at his aggressive, in your face, thoughtful best...

Brilliant: Raw-Finesse

" I'm sorry you feel that way " is by far Bill Burr's best work. The continuity is fluid and natural. I have been following Burr's work since the last two specials; which were great. He's just pure funny. If , like me, you connect to his material, you'll come back for more. Watch his interviews with Conan; they really shows his wit and outstanding sense of humour. There is a multitude of topics he talks about in this special, and none of them lack humour or the "punch". Burr's personality adds to the comedy. There is a sort of raw-finesse in his act. This I believe comes from experience and a natural comedic flair. I have hardly laughed this much watching any other comedy special. He's one of the best we have. It is worth one watch, at least. If you're easily offended or have ever been offended by stand-up, don't watch this or any stand-up comedy because that's hypocritical.

Warning: Spoilers
Pretty much the entire show was perfect. Every topic, every bit of it, hilarious!

Especially the part when he "let go" of religion. Uow, this moment alone was special for me, using humour, he was able to creat this bit, that despite simples, was extremely deep and amazing to hear. Perfect delivery. Satisfaction. I will always remember this show.

I was beginning to think humor was going to become a criminal offense punishable by public execution . Considering the USA is offended by every conceivable bloody thing anymore, I was surprised this guy wasn't arrested or lynched after the first special I watched.

Thank the Giggle Godz this isn't the case...at least for this guy.

He is hilarious, makes me laugh to the point of tears--often enough to send me to the bathroom, laughing till I nearly wet myself. Definitely check him out if you are old skool humor.

A Bill Burr stand-up comedy special filmed in Atlanta in 2014.

Bill Burr at his hilarious best as he tackles a variety of subjects. The intensity, the rant-like style, the original takes on things, the irreverence and un-PCness are all there and it is awesome.

A funny show in black and white...
paul_haakonsen10 July 2022
After having seen the 2019 "Bill Burr: Paper Tiger", and overly enjoyed it, I stumbled upon the 2014 standu-up comedy special "Bill Burr: I'm Sorry You Feel That Way", also on Netflix. And thus I opted to sit down and watch it, as I had enjoyed the 2019 show.

Sure, "Bill Burr: I'm Sorry You Feel That Way" was enjoyable, but in comparison to what I just watched, then it was not really on the same level of intensity. Now, don't get me wrong, because I am not saying that "Bill Burr: I'm Sorry You Feel That Way" is a bad show, not at all. It just didn't have the same amount of force to the punchlines and the delivery of the jokes. Nor was the material equally interesting.

"Bill Burr: I'm Sorry You Feel That Way" does have some good and genuine laughs and funny moments, and Bill Burr definitely feels at home on the stage. I have to say that I enjoy the way that he includes personal experiences into the show.

Now, I don't understand why they opted to film this show in black and white. It didn't make much of any sense to me. But hey, the comedy was the same regardless of it being black and white or in color.

My rating of "Bill Burr: I'm Sorry You Feel That Way" lands on a six out of ten stars.

Maybe the best special in history!
dalim-3810723 October 2021
I still can't believe, how good this special is - so, I registered here to write my first review:

Of course, Bill Burr is a very "special" character and I get why quite some people (conservatives and liberals alike) dislike him.

If you know and love comedy though, you have to recognize the ridiculous level of "Comedic Storytelling meets Acting" in this special. It's not only funny as hell, it is highly relatable and an emotional rollercoaster. The vast variety of characters, voices and attitudes is nothing short of GOAT level genius. His stories also are slick & extremely well put together. In this regard, he is definitely on Chapelle's level - and I think that this special is actually better than everything Dave or literally anyone has ever released.

The last comment clearly is debatable. I'm a white guy from Germany and I'm a "special character" myself. So, I can relate to Bill's atmosphere more than to Dave's. I've liked Carlin more than Prior, but not because the latter would have been any less good.

My point is: This special is technically flawless. Bill is a master of his craft and this is his best show so far - there is no doubt in my mind. I laughed so hard like never before during a comedy show.

So, even if you don't like his persona all too much, he will get you with this one - I swear!

In my top 2 favorite stand up specials I have ever seen

Warning: Spoilers
This is classic Burr. He's predictable as does he surprise you with how fresh his approach is on what I call "world war 2 vet" rant humor. What puts this at the top is how well his commitment to his stories are. He shows he has incredible voice Imitation talent that he gives 100 percent to. I felt like I was watching a really aggressive Broadway play hahaha. Top notch! "Son you sew. This guy kills people"

I couldn't agree more, very funny show.
deloudelouvain3 March 2022
Second show from Bill Burr in two days for me. I first watched a thirty minute Stand Up show from him that I liked very much. So I was excited by this show, especially to see if he can also be funny for eighty minutes, which is quite a long time for a stand-up comedy. But he managed very well, no problem for Bill Burr, he's a born entertainer, not static at all on the scene, which is also a major plus point to me. His show is never boring, with some very good moments that still make me laugh now. Bill Burr has a nice view of the world, I agree for almost all his beliefs and statements, and he can bring it in a very funny way. I will definitely watch more stuff with him.
