Blaine's Fiery Introduction!
gab-1471211 August 2020
In "Brother, Can You Spare a Brain?," we finally get to meet Liv's antagonist and the dude who turned her into a zombie, Blaine DeBeers. On the outside, Blaine seems like a pleasant enough person. Do not be fooled. Blaine is gonna be hard work for episodes and seasons to come. David Anders truly knocked it out of the park. Playing a bad person can be so much fun! I loved the introduction where he comes to the morgue and silently lies on the table hoping to catch Liv off guard. This episode expands on the pilot and explains everything in more detail. Watching Liv as a zombie in a human world is so much fun.

In this episode, Liv finally meets Blaine but there is more than what meets the eye. He may be involved with the drug Utopium which may be why Liv is now a zombie rather than a human. He also seduced a woman across town, turned her into a zombie, and now is blackmailing her for brains. Ravi might want to second-guess using him as a study project. For the case of the week, Liv and Clive try to solve the murder of a well-respected painter, Javier. He was having an affair and his wife Lola could be the jealous type.

Overall, this is another solid episode. I am really liking the show's style and its quirks. The cases are straightforward and entertaining even if they are not other-worldly cases. Plus, they give Liv a chance to show off her personalities around people outside of Clive. Ravi is delightful at her new artistic talents and Major is confused when she has a newfound love for jazz in which Major claimed she hated. I got news for you, Major. She ain't human no more. This episode properly introduced Liv's foe and I am ready to see what is next. The acting is fantastic all around! I am still skeptical of Major, but Buckley can deliver the quibs so there is that.

My Grade: A-

Not nearly as perfect as the pilot episode, but still great
I watched this episode on TV, but I stopped watching IZombie altogether because I was at my last year at high school. So, until a few months later, I decided to watch the entire first season on Netflix before the second season ended. Now I'm reviewing the first season starting with this one.

Brother, Can You Spare a Brian? isn't nearly as perfect as the pilot which I thought was a great start to the show, but it's still a solid episode. The script's fine, the pacing doesn't drag quite a bit, the music score is pretty good, the directing is crisp, and the performances still shine especially Rose McIver who remains compelling as she continues to solve some mysteries to every single murder. So, overall, a great second episode to the first season. Thumbs up. :)

The second episode of iZombie shows us more clearly how the show may turn out to be. We already know the characters, and their basic interrelationships, so we can start with the case of the week.

This time Olivia eats the brains of a well known painter and womanizer, so we enjoy her discovering a sense for the arts and seduction. It is interesting to see that Rose McIver will have to stretch her acting muscles taking on different characteristics in each episode. In this one it was better done than the kleptomaniac's trait from the first episode. Specially with the interrogation to one of the subjects she does with Clive Babineaux.

The mystery is interesting enough, but the way the visions offer the clues could be better handled, as they offer too much information to solve the case. But the shows seems to be offering a nice and balanced tone between mystery and comedy, with a touch of horror, even if it is still finding its footing.

The weakest link so far is the other zombie, David Anders's Blaine DeBeers, whose story doesn't seem so interesting so far.

Warning: Spoilers
Possibilities for this show are limitless. Actors an characters are well enough blended that it gives them a freshness, and very 3 dimensional feel. Example: he's been pawning after her all this time, when she displays desire, affection, and love. He gives her the boot!

Really? :( who does this? People, real flesh and blood people do stupid and crazy stuff like that.:) What I really enjoy is that the story has kept my suspension of disbelief to a surprising low even with scenes like the one mentioned above. Story is meshing very well, and looking forward to where it's taking me. All seems warm and fluffy right now but could go full apocalyptic at any moment. I would love to see it go hard core horror. Damsel and hero played by one sexy zombie. Yay

Interesting start

I have just started this show on Netflix. Watched the first 2 episodes of season one. My rating for this could go even higher (or lower) but time will tell. It is fair to say that this seems like it could be a. Good twist to a cop show.

Q.) Anyone else feel the strong resemblance to the 2003 show "Tru Calling"? Starring Eliza Dushku? Medical Student, job as a coroner and dead people ask her for help to solve their deaths!!! It seems like it was heavily inspirational to this iZonbie show
