Though I've only been lucky enough to see the HEART segment of this horror anthology so far, I have to say, it was definitely worth the wait. I've been eagerly looking forward to seeing this movie for quite awhile, ever since seeing the original trailer quite some time ago. I can't offer any opinions on the other three segments, and so I'm limiting this review to HEART. That said, I was very pleased with it. The legend that makes up the background of this tale is truly eerie, and the flash images you're given of it are both unnerving and teasing at the same time. Though what you see is very creepy, you still can't wait to get a good look at the thing. And when you do...wow, such a cool visual!
The story was easy enough to follow despite only a small amount of dialogue, and the young cast showed talent far beyond their years. The visuals and camera tricks are also worth a mention here, as they not only provide a new and interesting experience, but also manage to enhance the story-telling in a very creative way. Well done.
Horror fans in general should enjoy this almost surreal and frightening trip out into the wilderness, but fans of Asian Horror will be particularly pleased: this isn't the same thing we've seen a thousand times already. It feels new and original, and has a unique viewpoint that sets it apart from the "long-haired ghost" reputation that has become almost synonymous with the genre.
Check it out; you won't be disappointed.
