Mike J. : Oh well, that's it for the review, see you later.

[the credits start to roll before Mike interrupts them]

Mike J. : Even I'm not that bad. Let's have a conclusion. Ernest Goes to Jail suffers from the same issues a lot of the Ernest films do: little story and too much filler. Jim Varney always gave a hundred percent, so this is nothing against him. It's just a shame that they seem to rely on him gurning at the camera for the main source of their jokes. We also have no idea what happened to the villain at the end. So, did he go back to jail and then face death by electric chair? Mike J. : Hello, I'm a British person, and I'd like share something with you.

[holds up a packet of crisps to the camera]

Mike J. : Crisp? What does that have to do with anything? Absolutely nothing! Which is why it's appropriate when taking a look at an Ernest P. Worrell movie. There's a load of them, and the only thing they have in common is that they're 20% story and 80% pulling faces and doing voices. The first Ernest movie was Ernest Goes to Camp in 1987, followed a year later by probably the best of the bunch, Ernest Saves Christmas. And then in 1990, we were treated to Ernest Goes to Jail, a movie where Ernest... goes... to jail. At least the title's accurate. The movies were a big part of my childhood, but now that I'm an adult - sort of - I can't help but struggle to stay entertained with the lack of story and the surplus of wacky expressions. And it's a shame they felt the need to over-use that, because some of the writing can be quite funny. But let's not digress, let's take a look at Ernest Goes to Jail.
