not funny
superrudike17 November 2016
There seems to be a new genre of funny series. The first one of these I saw was "Master of None". You can watch it, the actors do a nice job, but where is the humor, where are the situations that make you laugh? Unfortunately this series is just the same. I am watching everything that goes on between the main characters, but (after two episodes) not once I had to smile, certainly not laugh. As lots of stereotypes are used, the show cannot be watched as "drama". Then what was the intention of the makers? We can only guess. But that it does not work is a certainty. Please bring back shows like Seinfeld. This is depressing. The six is for effort of the actors. Fire the script writers and give them something better to work with. Something funny maybe?

Silly sit com, but great representation of the Indian experience

This is very much a sit com. I'm not a big sit com fan in general. I reacted to this the way I would any other sit coms. I laughed here and there, but my thought was "why is this so stupid?"

All that to say, this is basically your typical low-brow sitcom. But the difference is that this is the first American show I saw that captured the Indian experience in a way that felt authentic. You will see how Indians from different regions interact with each other. You will see how recent immigrants, naturalized immigrants, and American-borns interact with each other, as well as with visitors from India, and all of those interactions really ring true.

But their paths cross with people from other communities as well. Of course we only have one Middle Eastern character, one black character, and so on, so we don't really much of these communities, but we just get a little bit of how they interact with the various Indian communities.

So yeah, while I wouldn't say there is much thematic substance, what recommends this show is how well it captures the Indian American experience.

Brown Nation FTW!!!

First off, let me say that being an Indian-American business owner, my opinion may be a little biased. With that being said, Brown Nation is a MUST-SEE! This dramedy has something that appeals to a wide variety of audiences. It has a very subtle depiction of immigrant life in America, as well as the struggles that all entrepreneurs face while trying to make it out of the rat race. I love how this show captures the nuances of the 1st generation Indian/middle-eastern cultures, and how they are perceived by the Western world. This is not specific to American born citizens, but also to other immigrant cultures trying to make it in America. In my opinion the majority of Netflix original series are binge-worthy masterpieces, and Brown Nation is nothing short of that. Put this one in the top of your queue, I promise, you will be pleasantly surprised!

It is one of the most funny tv show I have watched. I am a big fan of Friends and this one is hilarious too. But I guess you need to be brown to understand each and every scene's meaning as it is on day to day life. Great job👍

Just watch it, you'll love it, especially if you're an Indian living abroad.

I have loved Citizen Khan

I love Citizen Khan and some people recommended Brown Nation. Maybe I don't get the American humor. But this one is simply sad reality and not much story.

Sorry. Not funny at all. Not entertaining in any other way either.
