When the first trailer for Kraven the Hunter was released last summer, the response from fans wasn't particularly positive. Some embraced the over-the-top violence, but the majority of comic book readers recoiled as soon as a mutated Rhino showed up.
The Sony Pictures movie has been delayed multiple times, with it most recently moving from the end of August to December 13, later this year.
That means it will go head-to-head with The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim and, just a week later, faces stiff competition from Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and Mufasa: The Lion King. On August 30, it had no real competitors.
Despite that, longtime Sony's Universe of Marvel Characters producer Matt Tolmach tells Collider the move isn't because Sony has given up on Kraven the Hunter; they believe it stands a chance of becoming a Christmastime hit.

Spoiler Alert: Do not read ahead if you have not watched the Season 10 season premiere of “The Masked Singer,” which aired Sept. 10 on Fox.
“The Masked Singer” kicked off its 10th season on Sunday night with a special episode — and a lotta Lovato. Demi Lovato as “Anonymouse” was the first celebrity unmasked this season — although there’s an asterisk there. Lovato didn’t appear as part of the competition (otherwise they absolutely would have continued into future weeks), but as a one-off.
Lovato, of course, got their start at Disney — a.k.a. the Mouse House — via the Disney Channel movie “Camp Rock” and series “Sonny with a Chance.” So the “Anonymouse” character itself was most definitely a hint to Lovato’s identity under the mask.
Lovato opened the show with a strong take on “What About Love,” as originally performed by Heart. “Just like Michelle Obama, Oprah and Angelina Jolie,...

Fleetwood Mac have unveiled Rumours Live, a live album taken from a concert the band performed at The Forum in Los Angeles in 1977. The record is out today, September 8th, via Rhino. Stream it in full below.
Rumours Live was recorded when Fleetwood Mac were at a zenith of their success. Rumours, their seminal album from February 1977, was No. 1 on the US Billboard 200, and the band was wrapping up its support tour. They rolled into Los Angeles for three shows at The Forum — the one that would go on to become Rumours Live was held on August 29th, 1977, performed to a crowd of nearly 20,000 fans. The set was recorded by engineer Ken Caillat using a mobile recording truck owned by the Recording Plant, the studio where the band recorded most of Rumours itself.

Ukrainian filmmaker Oleg Sentsov has sustained shrapnel injuries while fighting in the Zaporizhzhia region in southeastern Ukraine.
The director, who spent more than five years in prison in Russia for opposing its annexation of his native Crimea in 2014, reported his injuries on his Facebook page, where he regularly posts updates about his life at the front.
He said his unit had come under artillery fire while out on its first sortie of the week.
“Three injured, mostly fractures. Already pulled out of my face, the small things in my hand and foot will stay with me forever. The other guys are fine too – Zaporizhzhia doctors know their stuff, thank you!,” he wrote.
Sentsov, whose filmography spans Rhino (2021), Nomery (2020) and Gamer (2011), joined Ukraine’s voluntary Territorial Defense forces the day of Russia’s invasion on February 24, 2022.

In the 20 years of its existence, Shout! Factory has expanded from home entertainment releases into music and theatrical distribution, working with filmmakers as diverse as John Carpenter, Mel Brooks, Roger Corman and Shekhar Kapur. Now, in recognition of its growing mandate, the company is changing its name to Shout! Studios.
The switch marks a two-decade transformation that occurred in a counterintuitively subdued fashion given the company’s emphatic moniker, but perfectly reflects its pedigreed but unassuming origins.
“It was impossible to come up with a name,” says Shout! CEO Garson Foos, who formed the company with his older brother Richard and Bob Emmer, fellow Rhino Records alums. “We wanted something active, and Shout! hearkened back to our music roots with the Isley Brothers song.”

After the new Kraven the Hunter trailer showed not solely the genesis of Kraven, but Rhino too, Sony is continuing their Spider-man villain-verse with the start of production on Venom 3. It was recently reported that two release dates had been reserved on the studio’s slate for two Spider-man related films. One of the dates was marked for November 8, 2024 and it was said that Sony is aiming for a release of Venom 3 for late 2024. And with that, Venom 3 has now kicked-off filming and the Eddie Brock actor, Tom Hardy, has posted a fun pic to his Instagram with a short cryptic caption to commemorate the occasion.
Tom Hardy’s Instagram posted a new photo of the actor messing with perspective with wall art of a mean-looking dog barking and Hardy is playfully screaming back at it. The only thing written in the post is “V3.”

This post contains spoilers for "Fear the Walking Dead: Flight 462."
Early in its eight-season run, AMC's "Fear the Walking Dead" crossed over into a 16-part web series, "Fear the Walking Dead: Flight 462," which followed the breakout of the zombie apocalypse aboard a commercial flight bound for Phoenix, Arizona. In the series, Michelle Ang's character, Alex, is always one step ahead of the other passengers when it comes to dealing with "walkers." She can recognize the signs that a person is infected, knows when to tie them up or lock them in the restroom, and knows where to aim a gun or knitting needle in order to put one down.
In real life, however, Ang was much more in the dark than her character when it came to her place in the "Walking Dead" universe. "Flight 462" premiered in October 2015, the same day that "Fear the Walking Dead" wrapped up its first season.

Craving answers about “Kraven the Hunter”? Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s got one very important bit of information for you: “Fuck yes, it’s gonna be rated R,” he said (from afar) during Sony’s presentation Monday night at CinemaCon 2023.
That prerecorded video set the tone for the very, very bloody first footage, which Sony rolled to the riled-up attendees — movie theater owners, mostly — at the Caesar’s Palace Colosseum in Las Vegas. What we got wasn’t technically a trailer, we were told: Sony executive Sanford Panitch said the full “Kraven” trailer will be released in theaters this summer.
The teaser (let’s call it) ended with the reveal of the film’s baddie, the classic Spider-Man villain The Rhino; the audience seemed to dig that.
“Kraven the Hunter,” based on the Marvel Comics, is Sony’s first-ever R-rated Marvel movie.

Audiences in Las Vegas for CinemaCon Monday night received their first look at Aaron Taylor-Johnson in character as Sony’s newest supervillain, Kraven the Hunter. The actor appeared in a pre-taped video introducing the first footage. He described the R-rated film as a Marvel movie heavily grounded in the real world.
Sony has kept the details of the film under wraps up until now, short of emphasizing the film “will bring us on the epic journey that leads Sergei Kravinoff to become one of Marvel’s most iconic villains.” The movie will also include Ariana DeBose, Russell Crowe, Fred Hechinger, Christopher Abbott and Alessandro Nivola.
The footage began in a rural countryside where a handful of apparent mercenaries are confronted and hack-and-slashed to death (lots of blood) by Kraven. Russell Crowe, as the dad, provides the “what you are and what you’ll be” narration, noting that he and his son are both predators.

Early last year, Stefan Kitanov, director of the Sofia International Film Festival, thought that after two years of lockdowns and online events, things were finally getting back to normal.
“For two years I was out of all festival events and travels, I avoided all public events and spent time in our family house outside the city,” says Kitanov, who started Bulgaria’s biggest film event 27 years ago. “[Then], just as we thought the pandemic is finally over, the war in Ukraine broke out, just a month before our 2022 edition.”
The festival lineup was already locked down, but Kitanov quickly adjusted to the new reality. And made Sofia’s allegiance clear.
“We decided to withdraw Russian films and call off Russian talents and guests,” recalls Kitanov, who has many friends among both Ukrainian and Russian filmmakers and fellow festival colleagues. “[Ukrainian director] Oleg Sentsov was selected to serve on the main jury, but he...

While we’ve been receiving vital cinematic dispatches from the frontlines of Ukraine’s ongoing battle against Russia, this week another look at the country’s history arrives with Rhino: Ukrainian Godfather. Directed by Oleh Sentsov––who was jailed for years by Russian forces for baseless accusations upon his protest of their annexation of Crimea––his Venice Film Festival selection captures the rise and fall of the Ukrainian Godfather named Rhino as he is submerged into the Ukrainian criminal world in the 1990s and begins his bloody path to the top of the Ukrainian mafia and his destiny.
The film stars Serhii Filimonov, an acclaimed Ukrainian performer who has since put his acting career on hold to fight on the front lines against the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Ahead of the film’s release this Friday by XYZ Films, we’re pleased to exclusively debut the new trailer and poster.

Beverley Knight has described home secretary Suella Braverman as “a risible character” due to the Home Office’s “disgusting” choice to abandon Windrush reform plans.
Last month, Braverman was criticised after ditching plans to establish the post of migrants’ commissioner, as well as saying that the Home Office would not hold reconciliation events, despite previous government commitments to address the injustices of the Windrush scandal.
In a new interview, Knight was asked her opinion about Braverman’s decision.
“It’s disgusting. She’s a risible character,” she told The Guardian in an interview published on Sunday (19 February).
“I cannot believe she’s in government. I cannot believe she is our home secretary.
“Priti Patel I thought was awful – but then in true hold-my-beer style, Suella Braverman entered the picture…”
Knight is currently starring in Sylvia at London’s Old Vic theatre, playing leading suffragette Emmeline Pankhurst.

Marvel’s Spider-Man used to be one of Sony’s best PlayStation 4/5 exclusive titles, but on August 12, 2022, the game was finally ported to PC. Not only did that port let PC gamers play the incredible base game, but it also allowed longtime PC gaming fans to do what they’ve been wanting to do since the game launched in 2018: mod the ever-living heck out of it.
Mods, not to be confused with hacks or cheats, are fan-developed alterations/additions to a game. They can be as small as a simple unofficial cosmetic or as large as the addition of entirely new game mechanics. Some players might scoff at the concept of adding an easy mode to Elden Ring or improving vehicles in Cyberpunk 2077, but mods are an essential part of the PC gaming scene as well as one of the best reasons to own a gaming PC in the first place.

Film producers are often used to facing challenging situations but for Denis Ivanov, he never could have anticipated the dramatic diversion his job would take when, on February 24th, Russia launched a full-scale military invasion of his home country.
The Ukrainian producer-distributor, who has long been a regular fixture on the international festival circuit with credits including Oleg Sentsov’s Rhino and Sergei Loznitsa’s Donbass, now volunteers—like many other creatives in the country—for the local territorial army. Ivanov is driving or delivering ammunition, raising money internationally, helping transport drones, whatever may be needed on any particular day to facilitate the locals in fight against the continued onslaught of Vladimir Putin’s army on the country.

Ukrainian filmmaker Oleh Sentsov and producer Denis Ivanov are teaming up again after their last collaboration, the ‘90s-set crime drama “Rhino,” premiered in the Venice Film Festival’s Horizons sidebar last year.
The new feature, “Shining World,” centers on a mother and her young son living in a small American town in the 1960s. Described by Ivanov as a “fairy tale” with echoes of Wes Anderson’s whimsical tone, it unspools in both the real world and in the imagination of its young protagonist after he learns an amusement park is being built nearby.
“Shining World” was written by Sentsov while imprisoned on what his supporters insist were trumped-up charges after Russia’s annexation of Crimea in 2014. Ivanov had originally intended to sell the script to provide a small windfall for Sentsov after his release – a suggestion the director quickly nixed. “Oleh was quite direct and said ‘No, my scripts belong to me.

“For a week now, I have been standing in the trenches as a participant of the territorial defense of Kyiv, which is a part of the Armed Forces of Ukraine,” he wrote in a statement (via Deadline). “Life has changed in an instant with the fall of the first bomb on the territory of Ukraine. Everything we knew about Hitler’s invasion has now become real again.”
Sentsov’s latest film “Rhino” was just released in Ukraine two weeks ago, his first movie after he had been imprisoned for five years in Russia in 2014 for fighting against Vladimir Putin’s regime and the annexation of Crimea. On Monday he posted a video (watch it above) of himself...

Oleg Sentsov, the Ukrainian filmmaker and activist whose latest feature was the 2021 Venice premiere Rhino, has released a full statement from the frontline of the war backing the boycott of Russian cinema. Scroll down to read it.
The director, who spent five years in a Russian jail on terror charges that Amnesty International described as fabricated, including time on hunger strike, is joining the call for a “boycott of Russian cinematography in all dimensions, including film cooperation: co-production, distribution and festivals.”
As Deadline has previously reported, the idea of a boycott is splitting opinion in the international film community – some believe that as much pressure possible must be put on the Russian government from all corners, while others suggest the idea of punishing Russian filmmakers who have been critical of the Putin regime is unjust.
Earlier today, producer Denis Ivanov, whose credits include Sentsov’s Rhino, was the latest figure...

Denis Ivanov, the Ukrainian producer of critically acclaimed films including Myroslav Slaboshpytskiy’s “The Tribe,” Sergey Loznitsa’s “Donbass” and Oleh Sentsov’s “Rhino,” has penned an impassioned letter against Russia’s war in Ukraine, describing it as a “genocide against Ukrainians” and accusing the Russian military of war crimes.
In the letter, Ivanov gave his full-throated support to a boycott on Russian films, demanding “no more ‘business as usual’ with Putin’s Russia.”
“I think some festival selectors, film professionals and cultural managers just do not get what is happening in Ukraine,” he wrote, in light of an ongoing campaign by the Russian military that has escalated in recent days. “This war of aggression by the Russians has turned into a war on independence and a war for values and rights. The Venice Biennale, which is the multidisciplinary arts organization behind the Venice Film Festival, has announced that in response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the fest plans to bar Russian delegations but not independent Russian filmmakers and their works.
The Biennale “intends to express its full support to all the Ukrainian people and their artists,” the org said in a statement on Wednesday, announcing that it’s making every effort to ensure that, despite the war, Ukraine will be able to participate at the upcoming Biennale Art exhibition which kicks off in April with a national pavilion.
As previously announced, Russia proactively pulled out of the art Biennale.

The Stockholm Film Festival, due to run November 9-20, says it will not program any films that benefit from Russian state funding due to Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine.
“That decision is regrettable but a necessary mark in a time like this. Russia’s actions are unacceptable,” said Beatrice Karlsson, program coordinator of the Stockholm Film Festival. The event added that the decision would stand as long as the current war is ongoing.
The fest has also chosen Ukraine as its focus nation this year, meaning it will host a program of film screenings, director visits and seminars related to Ukrainian cinema.
“The focus on Ukraine this year is a direct consequence of the unacceptable Russian invasion and the terrible war being waged in this now,” wrote the event in a statement today. “The festival wants to shed light on the uncertain future that the Ukrainian film industry is...

Following the Russian invasion of Ukraine on February 23, filmmakers from both countries are speaking out against warfare.
Two-time Oscar-nominated producer Alexander Rodnyansky told Variety that he felt “unbearably ashamed” after learning of the attacks.
“I still couldn’t believe that missiles are exploding in Kyiv,” Rodnyansky said. “I couldn’t imagine that Kyiv, my native town, where my relatives, friends and colleagues live, where my parents and grandparents are buried, will be struck by missiles of the country where I have been living and working for the last 20 years, together with my family and friends.”
Rodnyansky additionally wrote in an Instagram post that he was mourning “all the people who woke up in war.”
Rodnyansky, who was born in Kyiv but currently lives in Moscow, captioned, “Today I know that the Ukrainians will come through this. Gentle and brave people will come through this war. Because they are fighting for their motherland.

As the people of Ukraine wake up to the reality of war, many of the country’s top filmmakers and industry professionals have issued statements pleading for international intervention.
Those contributing include Oleg Sentsov, the director and activist who spent years in Russian jail on charges that Amnesty International described as “fabricated,” Maryna Er Gorbach, whose credits include the 2022 Sundance and Berlin premiere Klondike, and Anna Machukh, Executive Director of the Ukrainian Film Academy and the Odesa International Film Festival.
With respect to the plight of those in the Ukrainian film business, after a night where Russia began an assault on the capital city Kyiv, Deadline has chosen to run each statement in full:

Matthijs Wouter Knol, director of the European Film Academy (Efa) has expressed the solidarity of Efa’s 4,000-plus membership and its board with all of the Ukrainian people, including the 61 who are Efa members.
“While we have been aware of the ongoing political and military escalation in the Eastern part of Ukraine for many years, which first gained international attention with the annexation of Crimea in 2014, we do realise that the current events and daily increase of tension has an impact on filmmakers’ lives and health, morale, and creative work,” Knol said.

Your hero is only as good as your villain. That conventional bit of Hollywood wisdom has been disproved by many a superhero movie in the last decade. Nevertheless, there’s still something exciting about a comic book movie villain who does work. The kind that offers a performance as big and exciting as anything the do-gooders get up to.
And in the realm of superhero movies, few characters have had a stronger roster of such baddies than the Spider-Man movies. Despite existing across three continuities, and three vastly different interpretations of the Web-Head, popularity for the best of Spidey’s rogues can last for years—or even decades—after their first appearance. Just look at the unbridled anticipation about Alfred Molina returning to the role of Doctor Octopus for proof.
Yet with so many foxes in the Spidey henhouse, the question becomes who is the best Spider-Man movie villain—as...
