Fun slice of life series about the yosakoi dance club
Tweekums29 September 2014
Warning: Spoilers
Protagonist Naru Sekiya is a fan of fairy tales and one night she finds herself dancing with a fairy… or she thinks she does; actually she is dancing with Hana N. Fountainstand, an American girl who transfers to her school. Hana is obsessed with yosakoi, a Japanese folk dance that she first saw many years before. She is determined to start a yosakoi club and Naru is to be her first recruit… whether she wants to be or not. Over the course of the series they become friends and their club gradually grows to the required five members. They have their problems though; the school student president doesn't think they should be allowed to form the club and they should certainly not be dancing on the roof. Inevitable things sort themselves out then, just as they are preparing for their first performance Hana has to return to the States… surely she can't miss their big day… can she?

It seems that every season there is a new anime following a group of school girls and their club activities; for some reason it is a genre that just works. This example might not be a classic but it is a real feel good show that will leave most viewers smiling with joy as the girls bond and learn the art of yosakoi. The characters are cute and likable and their dancing is delightfully animated with music that is sure to get stuck in your head. There are of course a number of clichés but they don't spoil the show; even the end which could have been overly twee is executed in a way that will please most viewers. Overall I recommend this to anybody who enjoys inoffensive slice of life series.

These comments are based on watching the series in Japanese with English subtitles.
