"Really funny!!!!!!!!!"
coffeesaurus-3975419 July 2018
Producer/director/writer/"actor"/soundtrack contributor and his reviewer friends would have you think so. From the first few lines of the plot summary I thought, maybe. Nope. 20 minutes in and I'm done and I think that's generous. Should have read the whole summary along with all the effusive reviews. That would have nailed it. Like a coffin. Instead, the quality of the screenplay following the dialog with the bit players in the opening scene was the exact opposite. Too bad, because the panhandler, hooker and chauffeur know their craft and deliver gold. I wanted more of that but the nausea introduced with Mitch's first few lines crept up unabated however, as Mitch's old-school buddy appears and they fade into the background. Then in contrast to Duncan's phoned-in performance, Munro's overacting really grates. But, I think this has potential and could be a work in progress. First, tighten up the dialog (maybe one of your reviewer friends could help with that). Then, hire a director, re-cast the lead or take some acting lessons (perhaps from one of the bit players). Then maybe you have something. Less is more, Mitch. Then get your friends to update their reviews to reflect reality.

Good stuff. Good to see a not so cynical piece of comedy coming from the indie space.

A great movie to relax with!

A great movie to relax with, this largely comedic story has far more behind the laughs and quirky characters, there is real heart and charm here. Enjoy the solid performances, the witty script and the light hearted atmosphere. Well worth a watch.

Indie Gem
ranch70013 December 2016
This is a nice indie gem. It's listed as a comedy, but don't expect a farce here. This story is deeper than that. It's interesting to see these characters meet up after thirty years for a high school reunion only to have found they have either changed a lot, or actually not much at all. The two main characters play off of each other well. There is some good exploration of "mid life crisis" in funny ways. Some of it kind of off beat or dark humor. But the movie has a sense of charm as well. There are a few scenes that seem like they go on a little bit longer than they should, but stick with it, it gets fun. It's definitely what one would describe as a "character driven" film. If you're into indie films, it's worth giving a try.

I think it's worth a watch!

I thought A Legacy of Whining was quite good. There was some issues with the camera in a few spots and some random moments that were trying to come off as funny but ended up being strange. Other than that I liked the dialogue, the acting, and the simple story.

Quirky/Dark Comedy
mrtheflip19 October 2017
Reunions usually end up much different than you expect. I think the main characters in "A Legacy of Whining" can agree with that. The movie is a fun/quirky flick with a dark yet funny side. It doesn't take itself too serious, which makes it that much more enjoyable.

The direction and acting from Ross Munro is on point, as is Robert David Duncan and the supporting cast. The film is shot well and the pacing is even.

Very funny

Like an update on a Laurel and Hardy movie. These guys are hilarious. I thoroughly enjoyed watching their infantile endeavors. It's rare that a small indie like this is so well made, and so sharply written, and delivers with such punch. Is it a movie about being a grown up in a childish world? Or being childish in a grown up world? I don't know. I know I laughed, and I needed to laugh, and it felt great to laugh. Plop yourself down on the couch and prepare to laugh. Highly recommend!

Two Thumbs Up

A solid indie comedy with a unique plot that manages not to tire out the "buddy film" trope. The characters have a good rapport and the jokes managed to be fresh. Overall it's well worth the watch!

A joy to watch...
michael-gz15 February 2018
A not so bad fictional comedy about two old high school chums who get together after a period of three decades. They both have completely opposite mindsets and do not always agree on everything but their genuine and loyal friendship is what holds their story to the end. It's quirky, sometimes sad, and funny (at times). Overall, I found it to be a joy to watch on a cold and snowy afternoon.

Such a terrific comedy gem
craigahrens10 September 2019
I was in the mood for a fun, quirky sort of film and this little gem did not disappoint. A lot of us can relate to both the lead male actors. They did such a good job and had terrific chemistry. Their chemistry really worked for me. They played off each other well. I felt the film moved a long at a good pace and the story was fun! I was thoroughly entertained. Clearly two thumbs up from me!

Fun, Unique Indie Comedy
JGReviews9 September 2019
A Legacy of Whining is a unique indie comedy from director, and actor, Ross Munro. The film and its script have an original sense of humor that I enjoyed. The plot concerns two middle aged friends who meet up after 30 years and get themselves into some unusual situations late one night. The film excels in embracing awkward comedy and not taking itself too seriously. This indie find really goes for it and doesn't hold back. I genuinely appreciate little indie comedies like these. I'd recommend A Legacy of Whining to anyone who also enjoys unique indie comedies as well.

Terrific Midlife Crisis Movie
TheAll-SeeingI24 September 2019
"A Legacy of Whining" is a terrific and off-beat comedy focused on midlife crisis, and it's served with a delightful slice of dark humor, loads of fantastic pop culture references, and uniquely colorful characters.

What we have here, ultimately, is a highly engaging buddy movie. Mitch is our whiner in question; he's a fifty-something aspiring actor, and is played with a dry and knowing sense of campiness and neurosis. Endearing, annoying, and manifesting pure retrograde nostalgia, Mitch is just neurotic enough to talk himself out of getting laid at a brothel. He's reacquainted with polar-opposite pal Dunc after thirty years, and off we go.

The engine of "A Legacy of Whining" is its highly engaging script; it brims with humorous dialogue clothed in sarcasm, self-deprecation, gags and one-liners. But that engine is fueled, too, with wistful truths for those of us from a bygone age stumbling through the transformations of a modern age - we ourselves don't really change, but the world sure does. It's in that vast and scary landscape that the big-hearted "A Legacy of Whining" bridges into social satire and delivers its truly unique impression.

good indie buddy movie
jblockbuster26 September 2019
A Legacy of Whining is a buddy movie of two middle aged friends who meet up after 30 years, more or less right within their midlife crisis, trying to cope with the changing world around them. The result is a hilarious journey through awkward late night adventures, which put our protagonists in somewhat precarious situations. The movie doesn't take itself too seriously and therefore makes for really good entertainment if you enjoy such stories.

Funny Flick
ueprod28 April 2020
This movie had a good script to boot. The acting by the leads isn't realistic but instead is toned in an awkward way that fits the comedy of the film. Some of the shooting and editing aren't close to perfection but the film has heart and is good!

Darkly Funny but Also Heartfelt
dfranklin-418215 March 2020
This is an offbeat, quirky indie comedy with a lot of heart, as the film largely revolves around two men trying to come to terms with their pasts. The film opens with a quote from Nabokov on the topic, and if you know who that is, then you're pretty likely to enjoy this movie.
