Just No...

In my opinion, the actors all deserve a much better movie. The story is one that has been told many times, in a genre that's been done to death, and neither well. Sometimes a really good story with the right people at the helm can take the clichés, the predictable, the worn out and make them fresh and interesting, but '8989 Redstone' was not one of those projects or outcomes.

The basic premise,a home improvement show's attempts to film an episode in a house with a murky history, are undermined by paranormal events and stubborn disbelief. This of course leads to escalating bad, and some storyline details that I guess were meant to help tell the tale. However I just didn't get the point and was left wondering what and why. The movie tries to be scary and it has a few good moments with potential, but again the story's greater problems annihilate the possibilities.

Though I thought the acting was good and the characters believable and at times amusing, the storyline, its tie-ins, and finale, were really disappointing and worn out. I was left hoping for some epilogue scene after the credits that would make it somewhat worthwhile, but never got any such thing.

Maybe another reviewer can shine better light on the plot so that others may like this movie better, but as for me I would just say no and don't waste valuable time that one could spend on their own home maintenance and DIY improvements.

Almost Great

Warning: Spoilers
This was a fun ride. Love watching idiots get frustrated and proven wrong over and over again. " Buddha" was adorable and awesome. The characters were believable and their interactions illustrated the history among them, which just makes my point below all the more frustrating.

The ending ruined it, totally, without question. Some twists are fun. "This was all a dream" is NEVER one of them. It's stupid and unfulfilling and always ruins the movie. Why bother watching a movie that was all a dream? It's just a giant middle-finger to the audience. It's not creative. If you can't think up a twist that makes sense, then don't put a twist in! The movie had a great ending on the beach. Should have faded to black there.

If you watch this movie, just stop it when Daryl gets to the beach. Nothing happens after that worth watching.

Not horror but watchable.

How this comes under the horror banner I don't know. There were no scary scenes at all, the daughter in the film had her baps almost out in every scene and that was good, but before you rush out and watch this, no she doesn't get them out, so no need to hurry and watch this film.

The ending didn't make sense and looked rushed, the humour worked most of the time in it as well and Kramer came across like WWE Steve Austin, if you ordered him from Wish.

But saying all that the film was strangely watchable.

Watch it if you want but don't expect a horror movie because it's not under what category I would put this under I don't know.

Mastering Disaster
nogodnomasters1 October 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Darrel Masters (Eric Allen Kramer)and his daughter Rebecca (Lindsay Bushman) host a house flipping show where they buy property in very poor condition to refurbish and flip. Their next project is 8989 Redstone in Detroit. Things start to happen right off the bat, plus the producer (Jen Oda) adds some stuff to make things interesting.

Yes the house is haunted and this low budget production did a good job with doors and mirrors. The soundtrack was decent with an occasional riff from "One Step beyond." Kramer was convincing in his role and Bushman played a spoiled TV brat, like Miley with a figure. Okay I wasn't sure what that whole 1408 ending was about.

Guide: F-word. Near sex. No nudity. Bushman eye candy.

Haunted HGTV

This movie put together two of my favorite things, rescuing old homes and haunted houses, and managed to make an entertaining movie.

I will say that the ending was completely unexpected, and subject to interpretation, but I'll let you judge for yourself if you like it or would have had it go in a different direction.

Stars are given based on my personal enjoyment of the film and plot.

9 - Great movie, I'd definitely watch it again.

I Really Liked It

These kinds of movies can be really hit and miss, found footage, movies based on reality shows. There are some really good ones out there and some terrible ones. This is one of the better ones. A reality show host and his daughter flip houses and they have bought an old mansion only to find that not is all as it seems. The cast all do a great job capturing the essence of these kinds of shows. The host, a man who is clearly stressed which makes him come across as a bit of an arsehole and his daughter who co-hosts with her dad. There is a young producer who is trying to lift the shows profile and the crew who soon realise that there is something very wrong with the house.

The movies does a great job with the limited budget. There are some real frights and the house gives off a creepy atmosphere. The ending was rather ambiguous and you can read your own interpretation into it. This is one is worth watching.
