The Ouija Experiment 2: Theatre of Death: On par with the first
Platypuschow21 February 2024
Plot

A group of unsuspecting theatre goers are trapped, after a ravenous spirit is resurrected and released from a Ouija board.

Cast

Made by the same hack who made the first and with most of the original cast returning.

Verdict

Ouija Experiment 2 really does screw over the first movie in that it's set in a world where it was a film and is set around the cast of that film and them being involved in its promotion.

The cast are as unlikable as they were before, it looks and feels as cheap as the first and it's as incompetently made as well.

Truth be told the original was abysmal but it followed a tried and tested formula, this goes into business for itself and delivers something that doesn't work and certainly doesn't entertain.

And alike the first film, ignore the cover art! It has nothing to do with the actual film in the slightest.

Rants

Movies like this really show you the power of cover art, that's often what sells a movie, makes a person decide whether to rent/stream something. They rarely look any further, cover art looks good and that tells you enough. It was similar back in the VHS days going to Blockbuster, it's the first thing you notice so it's a powerful tool. Movies like this made on the budget of a Big Mac NEED a good cover.

Breakdown

Follows the first movie well Looks and sounds ugly Plot is poor Kills are dreadful.

Awful
ant36au17 January 2015
An awful movie with astoundingly horrible acting from start to finish. The dialog was insincere, corny, and at times so long winded I wanted to kill the actors and script writers myself and save the spooks the effort, don't even get me started on the rancid music score. Special effects were something any 3rd grader could produce and fourth graders would pour scorn on,if you could even call them special effects. The constant mispronunciation of the word 'OUIJA' was just pathetic and for myself infuriating as it happened in one scene so many times I kept hoping the ground would open up and send them all to hell for sheer stupidity. All in all a horrendous movie with absolutely no redeeming features.

Almost comically bad
lindseyswanson923 May 2015
I watched the first film, and while it wasn't good, it wasn't awful, either. Their bit about Oujia boards was complete garbage, but it was mildly entertaining. This film, we lose any charisma the characters might have had in the first film, stripping them of any personality and leaving only the most annoying traits of the character archetype they represent. One thing I have to mention, why did the 'actor' Eric Window have the comb in his hair during the movie? It was so incredibly annoying. Anytime he was on screen, I could only stare at the comb and wish for his character's bloody and painful death. I say 'actor' because there was no acting in this film. Calling it acting is an insult to high school plays everywhere. The actor who played the friend of the girl who wins tickets is so painfully bad I hope this was just a lark for him and not a potential career. There isn't anything scary, the script is an embarrassment, and the performances were so bad, you have to hope it was intentional. If you liked any of the characters in the first movie, just wait, you will hate them in minutes of starting this film. Horror movies are often lacking in several ways, so I tend to review them on a more lenient scale. One star for this movie is as generous as I can get. While I wouldn't necessarily recommend the first, as it also had some secondary actors (the expert on the Ouija board is pretty cringe-worthy) lacking skill, the main characters were okay, if not the most likable people in the world, I definitely wouldn't recommend this addition. It does not have any redeeming qualities. Sometimes, you can survive a bad horror movie by making a drinking game out of it. Unless you want liver failure, you can't even try it with this movie. Maybe I am being too critical, but if you put a product into the market with such low quality and no pretense of an effort, I have trouble being diplomatic. I hope no one associated with this movie continues in this field. Horror movies generally are lower budget, which means creativity and ingenuity are essential, and this movie had neither.

Birdemic bad
Louis_Bacon27 February 2015
I've seen the first one. I wasn't expecting much. Ouija Experiment is pretty much the worst found footage ever made, but even that needs SOME skills.

This movie is just as bad as Birdemic. Sound editing is choppy and disgusting, acting is ridiculous, directing is EXACTLY like Birdemic. This makes The Room look like a masterpiece. Don't even get me started on the "special effects"... I've done better when I was 14 and shooting a zombie flick with my MiniDV camera with my friends back in 2005.

The story is just as laughable. I've seen episodes of GhostHunters with more believable content than this movie. I was mad, angered that an art that I respect so much was being DESTROYED right in front of my eyes.

An insult to the mind
jackstupidjack20 October 2015
It's shame we can't give minus points in reviews as this dross doesn't deserve to be in positive figures. There is no apparent plot, the acting isn't even Porno standard and I've seen scarier pornos than this repulsive, cretinous nonsense. This film wouldn't even get a positive score in a remedial film school test it is that dire. Shame really as the first film is a fairly reasonable, watch-able effort undeserving of this hideous dross as a sequel. Utter underpants but underpants are of some benefit, this film serves no purpose at all. Pointless nonsense. All involved should hang their heads in utter shame, and apologise to the horror community en masse.

This is the most horrible movie for the year.
josetuliao-222-52890726 January 2015
Don't ever think of watching this film. You will regret it. I'm a big fan of horror movies and this one is a complete waste of time. I have read some negative reviews about the movie but I'm a bit hard-headed and watch the film. I'm not expecting a lot about it. So far, I don't have anything good to say about this movie. It's not my cup of tea. Go and find something else instead. You might want to read a book. I'm not against horror movies but this one is so awful. And the bad thing is this is the part two. A sequel, for another awful follow-up on a movie. I just wasted money and time for a copy of this movie. Once again you are warned that this is a good time waster.

Lame

Warning: Spoilers
Once upon a time, First time I see this movie, I'm like.. 'Wow, finally Ouija making the sequel of their first film'

And then, watched almost a half of this, I'm like.. 'Ok, the acting is pretty lame.'

Well then, the ghost came out and it doesn't scare me, at all. The ghost is pretty annoying. The actors and actresses act pretty lame. If I could send them to heaven, I would send them to hell.

Please for whoever want to watch movie but don't know what to watch. DO NOT ever think to watch this. Its killing you inside.

At least, lame horrible waste annoying.

Just plain awful
eric_ccj7729 April 2015
Well that's 86 minutes of my life I will never get back. Worst film I have ever seen. The acting was terrible, script was pathetic the sound was horrendous the effects cor blimey. Don't even bother reading the synopsis. I know there are B rated movies but this is worse than a Z rated movie. I cannot believe this is actually the second one. I mean really!!!! Who in their right mind would think this would make any money. Total utter trash. Save yourself the pain and don't watch it cause You will just regret it. Worst £7 I have ever spent. Never get that back either. My advice go and watch Jurassic Shark cause even that is better than this Movie and that is saying something.

Waste of time
rachinee1530 June 2015
So, it starts off with the original cast promoting the film "The Ouija Experiment" in a theatre. You learn pretty quickly that the cast don't have much going personality wise. Swisyzinna is some kind of control freak or "professional", who feels the need to make sure everyone is in check and everything is going to go to plan. Justin is just there for the lols. Eric is a wanna-be playboy. There's no real further depth into their characters, and that includes the antagonists.

They must spend about two minutes, if that, on the Ouija board before everyone starts dying off, somehow un-noticed. The CGI graphics for the ghost (ghosts?) are horrendous, relying on the hopes to make you jump in order to get a scare in. I'm naturally a scaredy-cat, enjoying and hating horror stories at the same time. But this film couldn't even make me jump. It was an absolute waste of time, with worse acting then most school-kids would do.

I watched the first Ouija Experiment which, while not amazing, was decent enough to sit through. So, I decided to try this one.

Acting was terrible. Plot was terrible. Film was terrible. Waste of time, waste of effort, waste of money. It was terrible. I would say terrible is an understatement.

Complete waste of time!
ralph2591121 January 2015
Why bother making a sequel - yes - a sequel to what? terrible acting, if you could call it acting at all! The guy who played Calvin couldn't have been killed off quick enough, talk about making my skin crawl! Imbeciles still exist - hooray! not.

I cannot even fathom any company wanting to take this on and pretend they would make a profit from us, the unwitting!

Terrible acting, followed by equally terrifyingly written script and last but not least, dismal effects. I wandered through this dumbfounded and in awe of stupidity. Seriously I had more fun watching Dumb and Dumber and any other terribly droll movie that was worth the paper it was written on.

Screwed up the concept!
maxime_clavet7 June 2016
Warning: Spoilers
The first movie was already not all that great, but was still entertaining, having made a sequel which precociously import an evil spirit by coincidence with the same actors in a horrible come back concept idea made it total trash. I rate it 1, awful. Honestly, I would of made some new teens go in the same house to try to play with a Ouija board to put it on YouTube, then you make them live something alike the last people and get them to die of horrible death traumatize, you make the medium come back or something, and the survivor of the old group save them... But for some messed up reason, they trashed everything to slap this crap together. What ever happened to YouTube, the story line. Why, How... How do you do something like this man, honestly.

One of the most enjoyable movies I've seen in a while
jeppejepperson18 December 2017
It all starts with your own attitude towards the movie. If you go in expecting Kubrick it is your own fault you didn't enjoy the movie. The Ouija Experiment 2 has some of the funniest performances and dialogue in recent horror movies. Maybe not intentionally but I laughed out loud multiple times during the film. The movie moves fast until the final 20 minutes at which point there is slight drop in quality but the final minutes do make up for the slight mistake of over explanation.

This movie is best with a group of friends late at night. Strongly recommend watching after the first movie.

only watch this as a comedy Warning: Spoilers
I wasn't expecting much from this film as you could tell straight away it had been made on a small budget, plus none of the actors are well known. Most of the actors played their parts in a quirky way and a lot of the dialogue was quirky ,i got the impression they weren't taking their parts seriously and were acting for comedy effect and in all fairness they couldn't do much else in a film like this. For instance the sheriff character really hammed up his part in a well over the top ending. Their were a few genuinely scary moments and the film was quite entertaining even if it was silly, but then i didn't feel it was meant to be took seriously anyway. What i didn't quite get was why was the ghoul(monster?} suddenly appearing and disappearing in earlier scenes where she appears in a flash to kill someone, and then in the last scene she shackled up and cant move??eh Wouldn't she be able to disappear out of her shackles if she wanted to? I've just read that this is a sequel to a previous Quija film which i am interested to watch one day,as i did find this entertaining .

Nothing to see here, move along
unolai14 August 2016
Do not waste your time on this movie. First of all, the acting is flat out terrible; nothing in the dialogue felt sincere and their reactions were over the top. Also, the "British" girl seemed to have trouble maintaining the right accent.

Secondly, the special effects and makeup are absolutely ridiculous. It's like they didn't even try. From the ghost to the blood, it just looks cheap all around. This combined with cheesy jumpscares that don't scare anyone, it makes for a terrible horror movie. This kind of thing belongs more in a haunted house ride. For kids.

Lastly, the entire plot was predictable, lackluster and you can see the "twist ending" coming from a mile away. Everything about this movie just feels lazy and only disappoints. Do not watch.

If you haven't watched this yet, RUN
Abchasi1 June 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Oh, dear, where to begin with this headache of a film? The lack of a decent plot? The lack of acting skills? The lack of a satisfying climax? The lack of good, steady camera work? From the beginning, I was unimpressed. They begin with a quick recap of the original movie right at the beginning. Boring. I was then surprised to see the "plot" open with a promotional event for the original movie. (Really? There's a universe in which people loved the first film?) Later, one of the cast members flirts with a young woman while playing with a Ouija board and, predictably, they leave it and a ghost gets out. During a haunted house tour, the cast members and guests start disappearing or dying off one by one. Nothing unoriginal or memorable, except the "climax", which leaves you screaming WTF? all the way to the end credits. The movie is littered with unimaginative, weak attempts at jump scares. The acting is deplorable, next to nonexistent. The actors are annoying and make you wait impatiently for them to get killed off. The camera could not be kept still. There is a part of the haunted tour where they come across the body of one of the actors, see the torso and legs very visibly separated a few feet from the upper half of the body, and ACTUALLY THOUGHT IT WAS PART OF THE ACT. If you want a better movie, make one yourself. Watch this movie only if you want a lesson on what mistakes not to make. Otherwise, spare yourself from this one.

Can I have the hour of my life back?
jswenson-3965112 July 2016
I wish there was a rating below awful. This movie was horrid from beginning to end. I've seen better acting at elementary school programs It is literally so bad that the cast makes you want them to die off quicker so the movie will end. Everything from the pick in the hair to the emo girl at the beginning just made it worse. My wife and I literally spent more time making fun of the movie and how bad it was than watching it. These actors must have been found in the same town the movie was supposed to be shot in, because everyone in a small town is inbred according to the movie. Complete waste of time, complete waste of space on a DVD. I'm happy I watched it on Netflix and not from the box. I may would have set the DVD on fire rather than returning it for someone else to suffer.

Some things are better left dead..
jalenbernardspence17 June 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Some things are better left dead... Being that I saw the first one, my expectations for this wasn't really high. The first one was low-budget, cheap scares, shaky camera, etc... It looked like the aborted fetus from a paranormal activity film... But it still provided a decent amount of scares and dialogue. However the same can not be said for this 2nd installment.

Disclosure: this film was shot in 2wks! *i don't know if they were huffing paint or a real ghost came & ruined up the set, so they threw caution to the wind & gave us what we got.. The dialogue was short, choppy, & did not translate well to the audience. The CGI looked like they paid a college student $5 and a subway sandwich to edit because it appeared cheap & pasted. Please save your time & don't watch this film. I only recommend this if you are a student and need to know what NOT to do..

a real experiment
trashgang9 June 2016
I have seen so many movies about Ouija boards and none of them could satisfy me except the Witchboard (1986) flick. This one has the title 'experiment'. Let that be exactly what we get, an experiment to try to make a movie.

This is really really bad. There aren't any frightening moments and when it should be it's done with CGI. Just until the end when the ghost appears in the flesh. I thought to myself, this can't be true? My kids do better at Halloween.

Nothing works, the script, the acting, the horror, the effects it even started to annoy me but I had to sit it through to see what was really going on. Even the end scene with the stabbing was a laugh, the knife going into the ghosts face was done CGI wise. But it's one of the better moments because the red stuff do fly around to hit one of the girls face.

Haven't seen part 1, this one was on Netflix, I guess that one of the technicians at Netflix must have been possessed while playing an Ouija board to put this kind of trash online.

Deadly theatre
TheLittleSongbird21 July 2018
Like the first 'The Ouija Experiment', 'The Ouija Experiment 2: Theatre of Death' had a cool poster/cover, an intriguing if not particularly original premise and as someone with a general appreciation for horror. That it was low-budget, which from frequent personal experience is rarely a good sign due to that there are so many poor ones out there, made me though apprehensive as well as the low rating and poor reviews (uniformly panned).

It is sadly however yet another film seen recently, hence some reiteration because the exact same strengths and flaws those films have are present here than in the first film and in recent low budget viewings, that to me was incredibly disappointing considering its potential which it doesn't do anywhere near enough with. 'The Ouija Experiment 2: Theatre of Death' is terrible, with a plethora of problems (huge ones too) and doesn't do enough with its potential, which was hardly small. There is really nothing to recommend, as awful as its predecessor was it is a masterpiece compared to this. That at least had a few nice references, this has nothing.

Lets start with the sole positive. The setting, while going too far on the simplicity, is fairly spooky at times.

Unfortunately, it is not done justice by the rather direct to video schlocky way it's shot and edited and the drab colour palette, so much so it was hard to appreciate it, it was very clear that the film was made in a rush with no care or enthusiasm. In particular, the camera work was a nauseous assault on the eyes with its excessive amateurish-ness.

Going on further to the negatives, the story does feel paper thin, disjointed and over-stretched and some of it feels vague, under-explained in the last third where the film especially became duller, more predictable, more senseless and less scary. Too many characters are too sketchy and with nowhere near enough to make one want to endear to them. Their annoying and illogical decision making and behaviours frustrates and are even more overdone than in its predecessor.

Making the film feel bland and forgettable with not enough heart put into it. The effects are ropy at best, the sound quality is obvious and utilised cheaply (being too loud in the build ups and people's reactions) and it's best not mentioning the uniformly lumbering and histrionic acting that shows a huge indifference to the situation and what is going on and extremely awkward prolonged pauses.

Dialogue can be stilted and rambling, with lots of clichés, lots of unintentional humour that makes some of the film play like a really bad spoof and no depth whatsoever, while the pace goes to a standstill very quickly and drags on forever with very little going on worth caring about and useless padding, never recovering. Found too many the supposedly shocking moments not surprising or scary and the supposedly creepy atmosphere dreary, due to the excessive obviousness, a lot of dumb and vague moments and explanations and the lack of tension and suspense. Would not have minded the lack of originality (the film is extremely derivative and in a dumbed and watered down way) if the story and atmosphere were at least alright in execution, in reality they were both incredibly poorly done.

A lot of 'The Ouija Experiment 2: Theatre of Death' has underdeveloped plot elements and often nonsensical and confusing character motivations, while too many of the things to make you jump or shocked are far from creative or scary and are pretty tame. The ending makes the film finish on an incomplete and confused whimper, while the film often fails to make sense, at worst it's incomprehensible.

There is not enough threat, and what there is of it tends to be used poorly, it is completely unimaginative and more odd than creepy, completely failing to show any sense of horror or creativity. Everything here is neither creative, suspenseful or nail-biting. Some badly sagging momentum too. The direction is leaden and like their heart was not in it or ill at ease, with the chemistry between the characters and actors coming over as constantly random and aggressive with the subtlety of an axe. This is very dreary and amateurish stuff that fails to be scary, interesting or easy to follow.

Summarising, an irredeemable mess. 1/10 Bethany Cox

Incredibly Awful
abbysharp139923 October 2016
Writing this isn't really worth my time, so I will just bullet point some stuff: -poor SFX -abysmal acting -dumb plot -terrible script (the speech is horrendously corny) -one dimensional characters that cannot be killed fast enough

Honestly, I think the writer simply came up with the phrase "Ouija Ouikend" and tried to think of a way to work it into a story. Except the story is vile.

The first movie...is okay. Not too bad. This. This is a waste of time. I feel bad for the actors and all who were associated with this film. If I was them I'd get some plastic surgery, change my name, move country and hope nobody ever realised that I was in the movie. Honestly, that is what I suggest they do. Because to be associated with this incredibly awful movie is honestly career suicide.

(Also: Why, oh why, had Calvin got a comb in his hair? Like real question. WHY?)

The sad thing about it is that I usually get scared of half of horror movies I see, but this isn't even horror.
jasste24 July 2018
First thing is the "CGI". It's not CGI, it's freaking png images! I bet if I search up "ghost" or "blood" on Google, I would most likely find the ones from the movie. Secondly, the people in there can't act. It's like watching a fan-made movie. But I've seen fan made movies that are 10 times better! Not hilarious, not scary. Unless you want to cringe, don't watch it.

Horrible movie
websterizack29 September 2017
Director is horrible ,actors even worse . Acting is so bad in this movie , I enjoy low budget horror movies so if u wanna watch a comedy you will enjoy this movie. I guess you can't expect much from a movie that was shot in 15 days and only spent $875 dollars to make. Wish we could give negative star ratings tho I agree with everyone else

So bad it's good
lorraine19623 June 2016
Warning: Spoilers
I am not sure if it was deliberately poking fun at bad horror movies or was just plain actually bad, but I laughed a lot. The dialog was so corny, the characters were so goofy and the effects were so bad, it was really hilarious - even if unintentionally so. I have a feeling it was intentionally bad though, because the characters often say things about trying to avoid the stereotypes of being in a horror movie. Some of these "breaking the fourth wall" moments are very funny!

The womanizing character, even though he often seems to simply ad-lib his lines, was an absolute hoot! And the bad guy at the end describing his "sad" life with his over-the-top acting almost had me in tears laughing. And there were actually some genuine scares. When one girl drops her keys and phone in a scary place and has to retrieve them, it was not only funny but quite scary! The part with the guy who could only see the monster with his special glasses on was truly frightening. Tons of plot holes, bad dialog, poor effects and things that make you go "huh?", but it's a fun movie to watch with friends over, if you are watching on Netflix.

The worst "horror" film ever made...
A_luis_C29 December 2017
Everything is wrong with this movie:
  • Actors are terrible and their performance is just fake.
  • The script is non-sense;
  • Specials effects... no words for that... my brother did a job in ellementary school better than this.
  • The only horror I found was on me while watching this!
Please, don't waste your time watching this movie.

Watching bad actors playing bad actors.
williamjeich27 December 2016
Warning: Spoilers
So the movie starts out assuming the first installment was a box office hit. Everyone is literally losing their minds at some convention with the actors.

I watched the first one maybe like a year ago, along with 4 other movies of the same title and plot, so first I had to figure out who was who.

After we watch stuttering Sally botch an already botched question, we delve a little into her character development. According to dialogue in the script she is weird and reserved, according to assumption shes an actor straight out of a B-List acting academy. She befriends some popular kids from her college (establishing a high-schoolesque hierarchy). There's the blonde popular one who wants to befriend the outsider, the standard gay friend who is snarky and talks about boys 24/7, and like 2 other girls who have maybe a line. They all get tickets to the big even hosted by the actors, and then we don't see them for 60 minutes.

After they run around trying to set scene and make character connections that fall flat, we learn of some sort of history behind Ouija boards. Which is false information, and they back it up by the common myth that Ouija boards are gateways for demons.

To keep it simply, like 2 people die, I forgot how cause I got distracted (which isn't hard during this blockbuster fiasco), but apparently it wasn't memorable.

After awhile of the same situations and bland dialogue that drags around with no endgame, we meet some crazy cop. The cop is a small town cop so obviously he's mysterious, creeping, and having adult relations with a relative (it's mentioned in the movie, trust me). Because small towns are full of weirdos and no one normal would live anywhere past the city limits of Los Angeles, of course.

Near the beginning of the event starting, we see the token black friend womanizer getting cozy with some girls, which we assume are random girls. Come to find out they are the girls (and standard gay friend) that received the ticket! Man, they sure stood out!

During the tour, someone smokes pot and drinks (as that rebel character does in all B-List horror flicks) and makes someone mad. Then we find one of the main character cut in half.

The rest of the movie is basically the weird girl and the popular girl running around from the murderer and ghost. The movie decides to wrap up with an unfinished ending (not a cliffhanger mind you). And I was left with 3 finished martinis, and a headache.

The credits roll with names we never heard of, and probably never will.
