Wildly Surprising

I have a love/hate relationship with horror movies. Sometimes I enjoy then, sometime I don't. I watched ''The Dark Shack'' without having eared nothing about it before, without expecting anything from it. I was pretty surprised when I found out that this was an art house kind of flick.

The originality and creative aspect of this indie film made me get lost in it. There's a weird bipolarity switching from playful to very suspenseful. The atmosphere brought was unconventional and wild.

Of course the low budget aspect of it acts as a crutch at some point. The story takes time to evolve but it worth the great moments and the deviant mood from it.

''The Dark Shack'' brought a bit of freshness and colour to my film routine so for this I'll enter it in the love section.

I love film and I love it even more when the people behind pull it off with little resources but lots of passion and determination. Really! People don't realize what it takes to create such a project. They probably finance it with their own money and won't even make it back. I know I'm an artist myself.

For unknown actors, this is pretty well done. Not a lot of over-acting that frequently comes from indie movies. Some of the VFX stuff is obviously low-budget but it didn't takes my off the story so I just looked pass it. Cinematography is good but a bit over saturated for a dark subject matter. There's improvement to be made in this movie but on the other hand, there's a lot of potential and promises for those filmmakers.

My advice is to definitely give it a try if you like underground and unusual flicks! If you only appreciate main stream movies you shouldn't go nearby. So don't expect the latest horror blockbuster.

I actually watched the ending of the film twice because there are some amazing and creative scenes; it's the best part of the movie.

I look forward to seeing more from those guys.

Fantastic Film!

Fantastic film! Really worth a watch. The direction from Dupont and performance from the cast are brilliant in my opinion and really put the viewer in the centre of the action. You'll sometimes find yourself seemingly a step ahead. The plot twist feels a little predictable.Though, I'd recommend this film if you're a fan of underground cinema or suspense thrillers, you should certainly give this film a look.

Lord love a duck...this was beyond AWFUL. It took me FIVE attempts before I could finish it. Melanie and her boyfriend (he lacking of the opposable thumb) go to a real happening joint to meet for drinks with his buddy and another girl. These two males are beyond disgusting. They sit around the table and drink amounts no one could survive, and go back to the buddy's apartment. Cue real boring storing about the "black shadow." Oh, but wait. It seems Melanie's boyfriend got ticked off because she wanted to drive since he was so drunk...so...he LEAVES her. She is then kidnapped, I simply can't go on. This is what you get for a film I'm guessing didn't cost more than $150 to make. The acting is atrocious, the editing awful, and the direction non-existent. Oh, and those $5.00 special effects are something to behold. Not one character anyone could sympathize with, much less pull for. And if that's not enough, this little bugger lasts 90 minutes. I would rather watch a hog scratch its butt on a fence.

Quite possibly the most mind-numbingly horrible movie I have ever seen

I found this movie on a VOD service, and since it had a solid 7.6 rating on this website decided to give it a watch. What a mistake. I have never before seen a movie so utterly devoid of entertainment.. The thought that the individuals involved in creating this trash might make money through tricking unsuspecting viewers into watching this sickens me. Don't get me wrong, terrible low-budget horror movies can be fantastic entertainment. But this film... It can't even succeed at being so bad that it's funny. The characters are shown to be pointlessly loathsome, and the majority of the plot revolves around not the supernatural element, but an offensive duo of criminals and would- be rapists. I honestly hope all involved never act/direct again. I want my $4 back!!!

Go sit in a dark shack for two hours instead. You'll enjoy it more.

A horror comedy??????

Well, the description states it's a horror/comedy. I guess I would say it's a comically bad horror movie and not in the "it's so baby its good" way. The acting was wooden and cliche. we are supposed to believe the friends are in their 20's. Ya, 29.9999999. The writing, directing and cinematography was well below, below average. how this managed a 6.6 I'll never know. If you find a copy of this film, burn it.

The Strange Accents Did It!!

We better close that movie portal now because the silly special effects are going to kidnap your brain and hold it and the non-acting hostage until the witches burn this foggy spirit shack down. The only curse is starting this movie in the first place.

Guerrilla filmmaking at his Best!

I have utmost respect for the filmmakers involves in this. To my knowledge, the movie was shot with a low budgets, a skeleton crews, using simple props or whatever was available, scenes was shot without obtaining filming permits.

I can see fans of the old good 70's classic horror films liking an indie horror flick such as this. The film was definitely made on a budget, but fans of the genre will find something to like in this piece.

This movie should still be regarded as an inspiration around the world.

Enjoyabley silly

A good job with little cost. Inane group of friends versus bone head crooks. Well written and acted. One goof was crooks broke car's windshield hitting jogger but wasn't broken when victim's friends found it. A lot of talent all around!

Always a delight to find unique films like this one.

This movie proves what Hollywood does not practice. A great movie doesn't need famous name actors, oversized sets, expensive special effects. All it needs is plausibility in the plot, and decent acting. This has it all.

The movie tells the story of Melany who is kidnapped by criminals then detain at a shack in the forest haunted by an evil spirit. This is not a technically perfect film, but the defaults of it add to the uneasy and gritty overall experience. The special effects, coming from an other age, are very unusual and charming, the acting pleasant and authentic (We can actually tell they're having such a good time making this picture). I see here and there things that could have been done differently in the edit room, the story could have been refine or shorten, there's some lack of motivation with some characters and may be some plot holes but otherwise I just went thru this movie without a blink.

Always a delight to find unique films like this one.

Low budget for sure, but they do a good job with it. Creepy, compelling and original a good little movie. Will appeal to fans of bizarre cinema I imagine. I liked it a lot, simple plot but great characters and it works well.

Not so much a horror movie (though a few scenes were indeed quite chilling)

Best microbudget film I've seen in a while. If you are in the mood for a suspense, thriller; watch this film! It really was nice to watch a movie that is made with such passion and freedom. There are really only 7 actors in this film. All together, the acting was superb. The Dark Shack flows so well, and without any confusion. I seriously may re-watch this movie with my fiance or friends very soon, and it would be totally worth it.

An independent film full of nice ideas but maybe without the budget to fully realise some of their potential. Nicely done however. Performance wise; they did an excellent job. The film hangs around characters and I thought they pulled it off amazingly! I found the film less absorbing at first; there's enough mystery to keep my interest but you want to hang in there for the end. Worth a look!

Simple but good

Slow at times, but the scary parts really do pay off. This film has a very simple concept when it comes to the monster, however it really does a great job in building the tension. It is a little cliche taking a lot of elements from generic horror films. There are still a ton of original ideas in this film, but this just stood out while I watched the film. Really good film, way better than all the other crap horror films that come out.
