Good story line, BAD writing.....
horton-wright24 October 2017
The story line starts off with 2 neighbors being unfaithful and a series of unfortunate events follow.I just really hate the writing of the show....Way too choppy and drags on. It's just a bunch of stalling.... I wish they would get to the d*** point!!!! (NEW WRITER PLEASE)---I don't know why people keep saying it's unrealistic though; I do think sometimes things that have happened have kind of been pulled from thin air like, How everyone knows d*** well Randall should have been the father of the baby but now they're trying to throw Lucian in the mix when he and Alex have clearly, never had sex....NOW THAT was far fetched, and unrealistic....For the most part it's hard to follow when there's so many other good shells on the roster but Tyler this show would be a hit if you got better Writers.

Is it me or is this season way over written?
sherryjangel11 April 2017
Drama Drama ridiculous drama and over kill! I have watched every season and this season in particular has me frustrated.

I love Tyler Perry and a loyal viewer to all of his work, yet I noticed his two OWN shows "Have and Have Nots and If loving you is wrong" are starting to become over written dramas.

People like to watch something that is relatable and realistic and the amount of drama that these Friends/Family are having is just overkill. Many of the characters are criminals, involved in some evil plot or under incredible amount of undue pressure with Lots of dead people. This is not anything relatable??? Over the TOP!!!

What happen to love and happiness, cheating and deception? Even the stalking is palatable, but multiple murders and attempted crazy murder? Esperanza is the only one not really involved in craziness other than a crazy Ex (that is over the top criminal) and a being a busy body.

Tyler ...Stop. Now a new crazy threatening character introduced? How much is enough for certain characters? (Are we writing poor Alex into a mental hospital?) It takes the class out the show to the gutter. Sorry, please please write better story line and oh stop those long fill in conversation scenes. BORING!!! My daughter who never watches, watched with me and laughed at the poor hospital make up on the shot victim Joey (how did is face get busted from a chest gun shot?). He is a cutie, but his lines are lame. What happened to the mafia son that killed his dad? I love you Tyler, if you need my help writing email me 😇 I never write a lot of reviews, but looked for this because I had to know if it was just me or not? Regards

i enjoyed the ride but hated the way the show ended
Bonnie-25-83048717 April 2021
The show was great to binge watch. It reminded me of a desperate housewives type show. I am so disappointed with the way it ended. To many things were left up in the air. It was like reading 3/4 of a book and not knowing what happens to the characters after getting attached to the story.

If Loving this Show is Wrong
bamboozler-9037829 November 2016
A fan from the beginning but now the VIEWERS ARE BEING INSULTED. The repetition of the script is draining. WE NEED BETTER WRITERS. Tyler, you have loyal viewers and we are NOT IDIOTS. We hear the repeating of words, simple Q & A is just insulting and a time waster. It's Tuesday, we don't have time to waste. A loyal fan I am but the quality of this show is far from Greenleaf!!! This show is substandard work for Tyler and I'm so disappointed. Even with poor acting, we are used to the characters now so just build on what we have. Stop insulting us. Don't know if I'll return next season. Same clothes, same words, same questions... What's one day, right?

Let's get real
tanyabyrd-7874924 May 2016
I have admired Tyler Perry since the beginning. But the story line and his portrayal of the black women on the show is so off base. Please may the story line more believable. Who would move in with a man and then decide not to sleep with him after already sleeping with him. What is the point. When Natalie's son was shot she should have been down there crying and falling all over him or she should had fainted. Kelly needs to mind her business, what woman would remain friends with a women who slept with her husband's friend and neighbor. Because next Alex could sleep with her man. The show just is not realistic. Someone should have shot Eddie along time ago. This season finally left me disappointed.

fitting finale
Moviebuff201918 June 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Wow, what a finale ! Crazy over the top violence against Randal and Larry. Alex getting set up for murder. And Eddie at long last getting what he deserved . I thought this was a great season after some meh ones. Overall an entertaining series with not always the best acting, but fun over the top story lines. I can't remember a more evil TV character than Eddie EVER.

It's like a train wreck. But I'll keep watching!?
rtbradford10 December 2016
Just when you thought Tyler Perry couldn't produce a more poorly written, badly acted show, he outdoes himself with If Loving You is Wrong.

The dialogue is so slow and repetitive that it's painful and infuriating.

Th behavior of the characters is unrealistic in almost every way.

Characters have no consistency and they're some of the most stereotyped, one dimensional silly creations on TV. Even my favorite - Eddie - is completely unbelievable.

And yet, for all its flaws (or maybe because of them), the show somehow manages to be enjoyable. Complete fluff, but every so often you need some cotton candy. This is it.

What a drag (season 4 especially)
nramaphosa16 May 2016
I am a huge fan of Tyler Perrys work. I will watch anything Tyler perry makes, but...this show is such a drrrrraaaaaggggg and has become super depressing. Every episode there's no progress. 1 day in this show drags for the entire season. The awkward silences in between responses, in alllllllll the conversations are rather irritating. They have a great story line - but something between the writing and the acting is very stale. Season 4 seems to be dragging through. The drama is no longer exciting...its expected and we are bored of the repetition. Tyler do something (especially with the random awakard silences in between responses in all the conversations)

Great potential, lots of hiccups
munecafave3 October 2018
Great storyline. Interesting. Should be a great show but it declines through the seasons. Dialogue is frequently repetitive, progress is slow, acting fluctuates. Too many dead spaces. "Randall" is played by a consistently terrible actor. So is "Marcie". "Peppa" started out pretty good, then fell off. Brad is played by the best actor, Ramsey is too. It's like most of the cast doesn't know what to do with their facial expressions and body language - too aware of the cameras? Please fix the project mama's hair! Needs new directing. Dear Tyler, I would love to take on the task! Don't let this show stay beneath its potential, please!

Where do I begin...
desilu-3630111 May 2016
Warning: Spoilers
I've been watching this show since the beginning, and while I love an overly dramatic soap opera, this show exceeds the standards of unrealistic expectations. Tyler Perry has a problem with writing one dimensional characters who are either all good or all bad. No one is as evil as some of the characters he's created, and if they are, their motives would at least make sense. There is no reason for Randal to have anything else to say to Marcy, and yet he goes out of his way, after she's moved out and moved on, to continue to harass her. Why?? Even "crazy" has to follow some logic, and here there just isn't any. So herein lies the biggest problem for me; the characters don't make much sense. They're dramatic simply for the sake of drama without being human. And one additional note.... Tyler Perry needs someone on the payroll to pay closer attention to details. Things like having a man be suffocated with a pillow while having a breathing mask on....hard to ignore.

Disappointed
ramona-mccain16 August 2020
Very disappointing. The show reminds me of a housewives show, which I despise. I'm just tired of shows betraying grown A$$ women as Adolescents. It's like EVERY show on TV betrays women arguing, fighting, and being messy. I've know my friends for over 30 years and never have we've been through 1% of what these shows betray. Just because it's a drama series doesn't mean you have to incorporate so much drama. Way too much procrastinating in the script. Positivity is also popular. I love Tyler Perry's other works but this one just doesn't cut it. I wish someone would be brave enough to depict the REAL lives of women and not the stereotypes.

Storyline OK... Acting? Shoddy....
valeriegreen_154511 November 2014
I don't want to seem harsh; however, the acting reminds me of performances my child had in middle school. Some of the acting is less than mediocre; I gather here skills can be built if the show stays in

rotation for a while. I do see potential!

The characters within immediate families blend oddly; it would be interesting to see resemblance. Children usually resemble one or both parents; it's otherwise. Whitfield's character & acting is OK,; his skills shows the flaws of the actors he works closely with.

Interesting scandal between the unfaithful neighbors who hang out and work together.

Horrible! Horrible!
atgym3 May 2016
This show has an 'ok' plot. I don't know if it the way the script is written, or if it is just bad acting. It is horrible! All of the actors act the same. The lines are choppy. The cast words don't flow like other actors.

Tyler needs to ask Shonda Rhimes how to write a story line because all of her shows are off the chain and EXCELLENT with great acting. Her script is written different from Tyler's. Tyler's script goes like this: Did you? Yes. Tell me the truth. I did. Are you sure? I told you. I don't believe you. I told you....just horrible.

The bad cop is excessive. Randall never works.

Luchion's girlfriend gets mad over trivial things. If Luchion has money in the bank that is his business not hers. He has one child by her. He is supporting that child, why would you write something for her to get mad over what she has no control over, plus the real estate woman should have not revealed that.

All these punk cops are afraid of one cop. Lushion is not strong enough..too weak. I have never known any weak cops. Why are these men so weak? Can't you have some truth somewhere in your stories.

Marcie and Brad need to date someone else. This plot has run its course. They are becoming boring. They don't belong together. It's not a power play move.

Why would Kelly believe that the guy who cuts her grass is gay. She says she never see him with a girl. Really? He's over there cutting grass!!! This was silly writing. OMG Tyler, you need help.

Get the writers from " A family that Preys" to Write this major Wrong!
sat_atl29 March 2016
This show has two really bad areas, the writing and the acting. The acting is by far the worst I have ever seen on TV. Giving Tyler Perry credit for what he has accomplished does not mean the we as people of color should applaud this and his other extremely bad shows. I enjoyed the movie "A Family that Preys" It would benefit this show to have those writers take over this show. Randall is hard to watch and the bad cop story line and acting is an insult to the whole concept of acting. Keep the actor who plays Brad, give him some lessons on timing, keep Luscious and his girlfriend and replace the rest of the cast immediately. If we are ever to be taken seriously we should not accept this low standard of art. Thank goodness for the talent of Shonda Rhimes, Lee Daniels, Danny Strong, Kerry Washington, Taraji P. Henson, Terrence Howard, and with a few exceptions the entire cast of these 2 shows that lend credence to the fact that given the right opportunity with a serious leader we deserve a forum, but this show is all wrong and loving it would be impossible.

If loving you is wrong - is an excellent show!
diabyj18 October 2017
I wasn't really a Tyler Perry fan until the shows - The have and the have nots and If loving you is wrong started airing. It took a little longer before I started liking If loving you is wrong, but I am definitely a fan now. So, I'm addressing those who said, amongst a whole list of other negative remarks, "the show is not realistic" and the characters are bad actors. O M G what is wrong with you? The drama IS heavy and sometimes over the top but Remember These shows ARE soap operas, if you want reality - watch the news. As for the characters acting ability - I think they do an excellent job. I love love love the way Eddie plays the character you love to hate. Randel is a close second for my hate club. The actors seem very real and true to their characters in my opinion.

Spoiler Alert!!
wdella28 October 2016
Warning: Spoilers
I have been a Tyler Perry fan for quite some time now, but it wasn't until my mother in law told me that she didn't like his writing style, that I took notice. As an educated woman, I find his story lines and conversations juvenile, outrageously unrealistic and unnecessarily prolonged. Eddie is an over the top police officer who gets away with way too much. If Esperanza doesn't like him, and knows his character – why continue unnecessary conversation with him, always ending with "I don't know why I talk to you"? Travis is back on the scene as a crazed and jilted maniac? Seems like Perry just tried to find a way to keep him as part of the cast. Why? Characters come and go, leaving viewers with lack of follow up, of follow through. For example, I am still waiting to see what happened with Claudia's story line. It was revealed last season that she is perhaps in protective custody, and that Lushion is perhaps undercover. Aside from the horrible story line, the acting is awful. The writing is even worse. There was a scene with Natalie and Lushion in the hospital waiting for word from the doctor as to Natalie's son's condition. The doctor finally comes out to chat with them. This is the conversation: I'm Dr. Norton {Pause}. Tell me. He's not in the best condition. How bad. He has less than a 12% chance of making it. There is hope right? Not much. There is some hope though, right? I wouldn't get too hopeful. All I have is hope. When the bullet shattered his rib cage (further explains)…. Lushion then interrupts and asks "How bad is it?" Didn't Natalie just ask the same question not 5 seconds ago?! – What doctor PAUSES to hear what the other party states after providing his name? Honestly, it sounds like a 15 year old wrote this script. It is increasingly difficult to watch a show that feels like it's filling airtime with repeated sentences and delayed conversation. It is by fault of this show that I only made it through one episode of "Too Close to Home" – I saw the same style and I just couldn't bear it. I canceled it from my DVR schedule along with If Loving You is Wrong.

This series and the cop Eddie is very unrealistic. LOL However, its good entertaining as an escape from the real world. Now that the series is coming to an end, it has gotten ridiculous, but I love it. LOL

Terrible and Disappointing!!
ambell-1651218 April 2017
I've endured this show from the beginning. It started out with some interesting story lines, but the acting was not very good. Over time, the story lines have painfully dragged out and the acting has gone from not so good to absolutely terrible. The scenes are long and redundant and I think at times, the actors repeat themselves. I don't know if they have run out of lines and are desperately trying to ad-lib. It's amazing how this crap has survived. I guess it's the sad viewers like me that continue to watch, hoping for a change. It would make me feel better if they just kill off Eddie (the mega- dirty cop). That character is way over the top and everyone around him is a joke. I want to see him die a painful, shameful death. And, the Travis character is all over my nerves. What the heck!!! I guess the new guy told the producers to kill him off so that he could escape that circus. After all, the dude spent an entire season cutting an 8x8 strip of grass. At least they killed off the redneck racist, but they should have let that scumbag Randle die too.

Loving this!
TkR24724 August 2022
Extremely entertaining, it's obviously not the best show on television but it's great to binge. The writing is subpar, but the storylines kept me completely entertained. What more can you ask for? I wish it went on longer. If Loving You is Wrong and The Haves and the Have Nots were incredible shows, granted I did binge them during Covid lockdowns, but they were amazing! Most of these reviews are way too critical, people need to relax... it's mindless fun.

The worst!
irishgirl-545173 November 2015
Warning: Spoilers
The only reason I gave it a "1" is because "0" was not an option. This show, along with the other Tyler Perry shows on OWN, is an insult to the viewer's intelligence. Contrived dialogue, ridiculous story lines and terrible acting seems to be what Mr. Perry is rather consistent in. Joel Rush/Eddie (the cop) is not only a horrible actor, but his character and the situations he's put in are laughable. Mr. Perry seems totally out of touch with normal human reactions and dialogue. A "pretty" cast where the women wear skintight dresses and the men go shirtless does not a show make. I'm shocked that Oprah would lower her standards to this level. Put your dress on and stick to acting Mr. Perry. (Not that that's much better).

Horrible
plinda8208 October 2014
I have to agree with Pattana746. I am a Tyler Perry fan and will continue to support him, however, this show is awful. The acting is horrible and the actors are even worse (except for the African American actor with the nick name "Malik"; I can't remember his name at the moment).

All of his TV shows have the same problem, the story lines are OK but he goes over the top. I understand this is TV and for entertainment purposes only, but come on. Edgar, the cop character??? Give me a break. We all know there are good & bad cops out there but to shoot someone and go around bragging about it to all of your friends. REALLY....

He also tries to make this too much like an old school soap opera, I'm waiting for the "cliffhanger" music at the end of each scene. Why not take time for character development before you cram us with all of the drama in the first episode.

This is only one person's opinion, but I will continue to support Mr. Perry's future endeavors.

SPOILER....season 4 drags and drags. Its hard to believe its the same writer
ed-1823918 October 2016
When this program started I LOVED it. I told my friends it was the best thing on TV...Then come season 4. It just drags and drags and drags. I have watched my last episode tonight. I was about to forget what the show was about. How on earth can a good writer kill his own show? MAYBE he has to many shows? I hate to see it die...however IF LOVING YOU IS WRONG....has died last season. I LOVED and remember season 3....I would watch and get frustrated because I knew it would end after one hour and I would have to wait another week. It was EXCITING....BEST writing I have ever seen for a soap. Now it is the worst ever. Who wants to sit and watch a long conversation. We all know who loves who...WHY drag it out? It is starting to become trash. It looks like the writer cannot write. It appears that that Mr. Perry has got writer BLOCK! Too many shows....so he writes FILL IN stuff. Its so bad now that many of the actors are no longer seen. There is NO EXCITEMENT anymore!!!!!! It feels like a cheap daytime soap. I am an old man and I enjoy good TV and I have little time left and not going to waist it on BORING TV.

Tyler Perry has improved on soaps.
zoonywoony456510 September 2014
Tyler Perry has learned some things. HAHN had awful acting, 1.Not Relating characters, and cheesy writing. This new show has substance, its hot and sexy and fun. Not to mention, the cast. They're so talented. (I recognized a few, familiar faces.) I liked how the show off the bat, lets you get to know each character and problems they face each scene. The show went by really fast. To me it felt like I only watched 30 min. It was that easy to catch on to. I also loved the single moms club and how some story lines had similarities.

Overall, the show was great. The family loved it, we will tune In more..
