Another solid movie from South Korea
JairHCastillo23 March 2015
The Target (2014) is yet another cool action movie coming from South Korea.

As many other South Korean thrillers, the movie shows great sequences, super stunts, cool chases, bloody fist fights, fine acting and relentless fast paced action.

On the other hand, maybe is because i have seen a lot of cinema from South Korea, but i feel that the plot was a little bit predictable, so for me the twist was not that shocking. However, if you are looking for an above the average action flick this movie is just the right thing to watch.

Sensational!

Captivating from the very first second! This fast-paced action thriller offers very good action scenes and nail biting suspense.

There are maybe too many conveniences for one film, but bloody hell, this was entertaining! The film is very unpredictable and also very emotional at times. The acting was really good. Great editing too. The plot thickened every step of the way, adding more mystery as the film progressed. Seung-ryong Ryu is so good and likable as the anti-hero hero. Jin Goo was equally good as his brother.

'The Target' is right up there with the best Korea has to offer. This was sensational!

Compare with another Korean action film, I think this film is better than older. The thing give me the most attention is the main actor emotion and his acting. But I think, the director did not want to put all their attention on the main character but rather focus to doctor. So the main actor doesn't have many scenes. The best scene of main actor as I remember is when he take infor from gang and when he came from outside police station (Really I've looking for more action scene this time, but it was not.

Any way I'm looking for more and more tried from Korean action movie like this or better.

Despite simple scenario, there is a lot of action and chase that won't disappoint the fans of the genre.
Mivas_Greece29 September 2021
Crime / action movie from Korea. Although Korean cinema is famous for its horror / mystery / drama films, this film is one of the good examples of crime films. A doctor before he realizes it, will be alone between those who will kidnap his pregnant wife and an organized gang, the leader of which, creates "death scenarios" to get rich himself. So the doctor will have to choose a side at some point if he wants to see his wife again. As the script unfolds there are several twists and turns to the end, while the whole film has a lot of action and chase, reminiscent of good films of the genre from American cinema. Without being too complicated the script, the film is quite well structured overall, while it has some clichés like a lonely, chased person to put up with everyone to find justice. Quite a good effort, however, and is definitely recommended.

good movie

Packed with intense actions, good acting and convincing plot. While a lot of boring dramas and pretentious movies like parasite are overrated, this movie is solid and underrated.

Decent action movie
mister_bateman31 March 2020
It's an entertaining enough action movie for an evening with popcorn (or whatever your favorite snack is). Nothing really special or outstanding. The only thing that's really annoying is the overt feminism with two really unsympathetic female cops who behave totally off-putting.

Too convoluted

Warning: Spoilers
Too convoluted and hard to follow. They packed too much into the story. Less is more sometimes. How could the mentally backward boy kidnap the woman? They needed to establish the set up first and characters before twisting round and round.

Brisk remake
Leofwine_draca26 November 2021
Warning: Spoilers
A brisk and efficient Korean remake of the French classic POINT BLANK. The French movie is one of my favourite-ever thrillers while this is merely good, and obviously there's no real comparison between the two. But it's still fun to see the differences between the productions and the way in which the Korean version ladles in even more action than the original. The characters suffer a bit and there's not as much depth, but the constant twists and turns and endless chases and fights make this fun to watch.

Off-target
grandmastersik25 October 2016
Hit men, an ex-special forces operative, tough cops, a mentally-challenged kidnapper, a doctor and his pregnant wife...

Well, it certainly sounds frenetic, and in a whirlwind of violence, that's exactly what was intended in this action-thriller, but in order for it all to work, we have to care a little about the characters and that, unfortunately, is where the film started to fall flat. Throw in a few dumb moments to spoil the intensity that's built up and The Target really misses its mark.

A remake of a French film I've not seen, I can't compare the two to say which is better, nor could I genuinely recommend this to fans of Korean cinema or action, because there are so many better titles out there more worthy of your time... though, that doesn't mean that you need to change the channel should it ever be on TV.

'The Target s ' an enjoyable flick...until the end
chanduu-938-75646110 March 2015
If you are a fan of action thriller movies , then you will most likely enjoy this one.The film benefits from a hard, gritty edge, with lots of brutal violence, fist fights, shoot outs, stabbings all of which pack a considerable punch thanks to some excellent choreography and stunts.

Due to the action overload, there's sadly not room for much else, and the film doesn't do quite so well in other areas. The plotting might be somewhat silly, and pretty much falls apart as soon as you think about it, but it knows how to keep you involved. Despite its flaws,"the target" is still sufficiently engaging to entertain- especially since its pace is brisk and its actors easy on the eye.Its a solid and frequently thrilling cinema which should provide genre fans with sufficient entertainment and excitement..

Dynamic Action-Thriller at Its Very Best
kluseba11 January 2023
The Target is one of the greatest action-thrillers that has ever been created in the history of cinema. Do I have your attention now? This South-Korean masterpiece is a remake of French film À bout portant, internationally known as Point Blank. While most remakes are indeed lacklustre, predictable and repetitive, The Target stands out as one of the best of its kind and is certainly worth your attention.

The movie revolves around a former mercenary and his mentally challenged brother who get caught up in a dangerous scheme. The former is framed for the death of a businessman and escapes from the hospital with the police hot on his heels. A doctor at the hospital gets involved when he learns that his pregnant wife has been kidnapped. The police officer who leads the chase turns out to be deeply involved in the scheme and eliminates all witnesses on his trail. These different story lines intertwine and lead to a spectacular showdown at a police station.

This film convinces on all levels. First of all, the movie has a perfect length of ninety-eight minutes that will keep viewers on the edges of their seats from start to finish. There isn't one single unnecessary second of boredom. The movie is dynamic, fast and fluid at all moments.

Up next, the different characters are truly intriguing. The cool mercenary who is haunted by his dark past, his mentally challenged brother who goes to great lengths to save his brother, the courageous pregnant wife who keeps calm under the most difficult circumstances, the resilient doctor who adapts fluidly to challenging situations and the cruel police officer with a hidden agenda are all absolutely fascinating. The actresses and actors involved in this movie play their roles authentically and manage to become one with them.

The story is also quite intriguing. At first, there seem to be quite a few characters and story lines but they all come together and lead to a clever conclusion that leaves no questions unanswered. This addition of profound intellect to an intense movie feels like a welcome breeze of fresh air.

The action sequences in this movie are second to none. The daring escape from the hospital, the fast-paced car chases and the brutal shootouts are executed with attention, details and realism. The shining highlight is the final confrontation at the police station that has to go down as one of the greatest action sequences in the history of filmmaking. This stunning conclusion was breathtaking upon release but has also aged very well and is still better than what many contemporary genre movies tend to offer nowadays. You certainly won't forget this movie anytime soon as you will start reminiscing upon the masterpiece you have just watched as soon as the credits will start rolling.

At the end of the day, The Target deserves much more attention and acclaim. Anyone who likes action films or thrillers should definitely watch this movie that goes down as one of the greatest of the last decade. The Target has aged very well, so it's never too late to give this movie a try.
