Slow start, but picks up

It started slow, but it got better. Each character has deep seeded issues.

Family drama at its finest
dbuckshnis3 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This pilate reminds me so much of the family drama that occurs all the time with the various individuals that were brought up as kids and then suddenly are adults. I am intrigued by the entire aspect of the dichotomy between the two brothers one being good and one being evil! Or one being the good sheep and one being the black sheep!

So I would not have known about this series other than my sister recommended it and I like the CIP dude who was in previous series.

But the story about the brother saving the brother in some sort of title events is very intriguing and I am hooked to figure that so series of reasoning out.

The said design is great as well as costumes snd flashback events peek the storyline.

After finishing 'in the dark' series season 1, i decided to watch this series.

Warning: Spoilers
After finishing 'in the dark' series season 1, i decided to watch this series.

Because seasons have more than 10 episodes and episodes are longer than 40 minutes.

Also, i needed some thriller.

I hope i can enjoy.

AFter finishing episode:

Starts very boring but then as we know characters more, it becomes interesting.

But I just did not understand how he decided to go back home after he left bus and after he spoke to his friend.

He was sitting with his old friend. He offered danny a new job. Then we saw he came home. He did not want it at first. What happened?

There is mystery, but i like intro episode.

Bloodline: Intricate, daring.
theplotreview26 February 2019
Very few film and television productions, if any, have been able to capture the dark and intricate dysfunctional reality of many families, just by telling the story of one. Bloodline dares to examine the relationship between the picture perfect, upstanding citizen parents and their children. It dares to explore and dive into the lifelong impact, that their behavior as parents, has had on their children. It also portrays with astonishing accuracy, the impact of their behavior, on their grown children's relationships with each other. Many families have a Danny, a John, a Meg and a Kevin. This story is a reminder, for those who can fathom, that actions have consequences.

what a great pilot
gplusr2 June 2015
Warning: Spoilers
A friend of mine recommended me that show, at first I wasn't so sure because I have cold feet about Netflix (maybe I'm the only one) but this pilot was golden.

There's a whole mystery involving the Rayburns, we're revealed some glimpses about what it is or what it can possibly be, the acting was spot on, the cast is very good and I really dig stories like that, family issues and mysterious murders.

Also, islands (Lost, The Affair) really get me invested on watching it.

A great story to a promising show, it sure was enough to keep me hooked to give it a chance and watch the whole season.

just found this series a few days ago and we're hooked!
howzeyez22 March 2015
if you're looking for a well cast, well written, day in the life of a real family drama.... this is it!

we were hooked from the moody theme song(s), the incredible shots of islamorada in the Florida keys (if you've ever been there, you can appreciate the muggy weather and....bugs) and authenticity of family member relationships and dialog as you're guided through the tentacles that are the ties that bind or choke a family ... .the drama in each episode is like turning the page on a good book...

crip crap crip... i wrote a concise review ... really love the series and now i want to post but find that i just wasted my good will, thought and time only to find i was too brief... well tough tits... i'll send and you can discard for me....

Train Wreck Ahead
nebohr16 August 2022
This production will, without a doubt, remind most people of either a family member or a friend. Danny is a class A screwup who, it would seem, can hardly support himself. First -born children are usually train wrecks in one way or another. The Rayburn family legacy is nothing but broken relationships.

Intriguing but Confusing
borowiecsminus1 July 2016
Warning: Spoilers
If this had not been a Netflix series, no one would've made it to the second episode, but no one would know if it ever got good, which it does eventually, not but in the first episode.

The first episode presents an image to the viewer: The Rayburn family. Upscale, wealthy, running a family business, and full of drama. Seems like a good idea for a drama, especially considering very interesting cutaways. For the entirety of the episode, you wonder if they're flashbacks or flashforwards. In the end, you realize they must be flashforwards, as a character who is alive in present-day dies.

The character of Danny is my far the most interesting, as I'm sure he's intended to be. The role of John is blessed to have as perfect a casting choice as Kyle Chandler.

However, there is way too much commentary in the future from the lead character. You can tell the writers are itching to tell you plot details but know that they can't, like a short-story author writing a full novel for the first time. It rushes. The biggest example is that they essentially spoil the fate of a character right off the bat in the first episode. Not in a "Mockingbird" way, where it's still kind of unclear how Jem breaks his arm, but in a way that, had the scene not been so strange and interesting, would make the viewer say, "well I don't need to see any more."

There is also no true plot. I understand the show revolves around a murder, but that hasn't happened yet, and it's unclear where exactly the show is going. That's only okay in comedies.

All that being said, the show does leave you wanting more. Perhaps this is because of the hyper-realistic writing in the family, or the vivid characters and pitch-perfect casting.

Directing could've been much better, but it suffered only one flaw: it was painfully unclear which table Danny ended up sitting at.

The only real flaw is the rushing of the story in the flashforwards and the lack of story in the present-day. But that's a big flaw. It's worth four stars.

A drama needs a plot.

Great Show And Cast, But Could Have Been A Better If Not Strung Out!
jsmith98-114 March 2020
I will not go into to detail about this series as I don't want to spoil the plot! It's a very well made series , but it's drags on and on for far too long! There are several intences where this could and should have ended , but it strings the watcher along for what seems like forever and it doesn't need to!

I like the cast as well as the plot, but there were times while watching this that I felt it was getting ready to finally come to a conclusion. However the directors kept adding unnecessary subplots and crazy twist that were not needed in order to make this an enjoyable series. I fell for the series hook, line, and sinker! There were some episodes that just didn't need to be part of the overall storyline. I almost stopped watching this several times as it was getting monotonous and just flat out boring. Just wait until Season 3, Episode 32, it's a good thing there was only one episode left as I would have stopped wasting my time watching the show!

I have to say that it's a well written show, great cast members and a very lifelike plot, it's worth a look and I would recommend this to anyone who is patient enough to endure the 33 Episodes ! I just don't see me watching this again , as once was enough! I would have rated this much higher if it had been a few Episodes less!

Surprisingly Awful
nicktesla7 June 2015
The pilot episode for this series has earned the dubious distinction of being the only television show - and certainly the only land-based drama! - to give me motion sickness. The hand-held camera work is so amazingly bad that at first I thought that it was parody. Are we supposed to think we are witnessing the events portrayed through the eyes of an increasingly drunken party guest? Someone who has been dosed with a slow-acting neuro-toxin that also compels them to believe that they must document every agonizing moment with their smart phone? The Director must have a real grudge against Netflix viewers, because the most obvious defense - closing one's eyes and just listening to the show - runs directly aground on the other Awful component of this torture: the dialog. It's exactly as if the actors were forced to improvise the lines in many of the scenes, having been given only a word or phrase on which to base their lines. Most of them appear to have risen to the occasion, only to find themselves forced to make each improvised scene last two or even three times as long as anyone with a decent sense of pacing can bear. Two thirds of the way through the Pilot, having discovered that this show not only seems interminable but is actually longer than most other one hour shows, I was so queasy that I gave up. Don't worry: I wasn't coming down with a Bug, it really was just this terrible, amateurish drama.
