It needs a little work
The_Light_Triton12 August 2014
Idiotest is GSN's newest addition to it's line-up of original programming.

What makes this new gameshow so unique? Trick Questions. Every question the players get must be read carefully. but they can't take too long, because every second counts - take too long and you won't win as much money.

Unfortunately, this gameshow needs a little work. It's very short and empty and not much action is going on. there needs to be a few more questions in each round. Ben Glieb is OK, but he's no Jeff Foxworthy.

However, it really does make you think before you answer, and that's where I give idiotest credit.

Warning: Spoilers
How many flights of stairs to get to the 34 th floor of the Empire State building. There is no 13 th floor, so the correct answer would be 32, not 33.

Good brain workout
awm-1258025 November 2020
This is a good show if you just need something to get your brain exercised. However, as I am learning, most "game shows" don't consist of your average person off the street as they want you to believe. They are actors. And knowing that just ruins it for me.

Genius logic game concept
monalyssastudios28 July 2019
Our family thinks that the show is genius! We love the type of logic game scenarios that the producer has cleverly conceptualized. As we watch it we challenge each other to solve each puzzle as we laugh and have fun. However, it's hard to stomach when the host starts to sound condescending, rude, and bored. He lacks personality too. We have to turn the show off after we can't stomach it.

Awful host, awful questions.
justin-fostin2 November 2017
Warning: Spoilers
I thought this would be a fun game that makes you think, but it is so juvenile it is unwatchable. I suffered through two entire episodes to give it a chance, but it only got worse as the show went on. As I watched the first few minutes, I thought the questions were on par with something you'd see on buzzfeed that glorifies wise guy insolence, such as a "smartest answers ever" compilation that includes things along the lines of "where was the Declaration of Independence signed? At the bottom!" or the complicated algebra equation saying "find X" and the student draws an arrow to the X and says "here it is!" I didn't know if I should laugh or cry when the "where was the Declaration of Independence signed" question actually came up on this show, and the answer was "at the bottom." Soon after that, they asked "where are the minutes in a meeting kept?" and of course the real answer is "on the notepad," but after the Declaration of Independence question you would think they want another equally idiotic (ironic, huh) but literal answer, such as "in the clock." The guy picked the clock and he got it wrong! The correct answer was the notepad -_-

This game has almost nothing to do with actual knowledge. It's all about being able to pick out very subtle misspellings (i.e. changing customer service to read costumer service), knowing if they want the real answer or the juvenile, playground joke answer, and guessing if they are being literal or not. Most of the time they are being very literal and juvenile, and you could very easily argue that they are asking two different questions.

Despite the badly written questions, it could still be an OK and occasionally enjoyable show if not for the host, Ben Gleib. I know he thinks he's funny, but his "banter" is just rude and immature. Almost every time he spoke, he had another insult which he clearly thought was incredibly witty and clever, but he reminded me of a middle school bully wannabe who thinks he's both tough and hilarious but is actually just annoying. For example, he told one of the contestants he liked his jacket, and the contestant seemed genuinely happy to be complimented, but of course Mr. Gleib followed it up by saying he wanted to switch jackets because he'd always wanted to wear a rug. He poked fun of the contestant's jacket numerous times throughout the show, with each insult/joke sounding more and more forced, even desperate, and not at all humorous.

This show is definitely geared toward a very specific demographic...

I am surprised.
Red_ant_1015 December 2019
I came across this show on Netflix and only made it a few episodes before I had to turn it off, it was that bad. I only came here to confirm my thought that it would have to been cancelled after the first season.

I was surprised to see it lasted four seasons. I am now thinking did they film multiple seasons at once and went with the we might as well air them philosophy.

I do not understand the negative reviews.....
reckno13 October 2020
All The complaints are all about the host Ben Gleib, who I do not think is as bad as people are making him out to be. He's a comedian who hosts the show, so yeah he's gonna make some jokes people will find "offensive". But are the contestants complaining? Not from the episodes I've seen! They are always enjoying their time on the show, win or lose. And Ben is enjoying hosting and talking with the contestants. Everyone is having fun on this show! The only people offended are some of those watching.....

The rest of us enjoy this game show! I've watched it with family and friends and they enjoy it too! The puzzles range from fairly easy to cleverly tricky, and some are incredibly tricky! It is a fun show to solve the puzzles as you watch, at least from my experience. Give it a chance, I'm sure you will enjoy it too!

Worst host ever
catherinehamel16 May 2019
I don't know how the production can let an awful and mean person like that hosting the show. He is so rude and thinks he is funny but he just hurt people. The show should be host by a funny and nice person not by an idiot.

Absolutely terrible
pulkitkh4 August 2020
Everything about the show is horrible - from a frankly uncomfortable host with a hoarse voice who shouts at the top of his lungs every 10 seconds, to a time-wasting set-up of "get back to your seats". Everytime someone comes to the screen, the host attempts awkward conversations, almost always resulting in facepalm moments. Even if you wanted to get through that for some reason, the show is ripe with problematic words and ideas - beginning with calling everybody an idiot, and ending with misogynistic remarks on people's bodies. If all of that could be ignored for a second, you get to witness the most useless, unimaginative and downright moronic questions on the table, which the host then goes ahead to explain while shouting in his hoarse voice. All of this, mind you, is done with obvious forced laughter to successfully make it the worst show of all time. This show manages to get everything wrong, and that is its only consistency.

Lateral-thinking puzzles = perfect play-at-home fun
blaq-529 December 2018
Unlike straightforward quizzers, Idiotest rewards lateral thinking under pressure. It has one of the highest play-at-home scores in recent memory. Its puzzles can be tough, but always fair. You have to stay on your toes: is there a missing apostrophe that completely changes the question? Can any word be interpreted in a different way?

It's a delight to play along. Yes, the snarky humour will annoy some viewers, but you can hardly fault the gameplay itself. Idiotest is a hidden gem.

The host makes this show terrible.
guidrydejion9 February 2024
I've seen some terrible game show hosts, but Ben Gleib on Idiotest is by far the worst game show host I have ever watched. I watched a few episodes just because I like the concept of the game - but sitting through classless jokes and crude, passive aggressive behavior over and over was just so terrible that I created this account just to express how much Ben Gleib has ruined a good show. Again, I've only watched a few episodes but it's chaotic. Just listen to him and watch the behavior of the contestants! I know uncomfortable when I see it because I've experienced it! Had the show had an actually funny host- I think it would be perfect!

Grows On You
jacksparacino23 March 2015
As game shows go, this one is entertaining and makes you think. The problems or puzzles to solve are alternately tricky, straightforward and slightly sophomoric but all in all fun to participate in. The host, along with the show, grows on you, as he banters with generally young contestants vying for paltry prize amounts. He remains supportive and congenial through the sarcasm and unlike most game show hosts, can't readily 'mail in' his performance, much of which is improvised or at least appears to be. Think you're bright? Try playing along and see how well you do! The show would benefit from a more diverse group of contestants, e.g., how about more folks over 30 or even 50? And maybe the producers could scrounge up more money for contestants to battle over; a thousand dollars or so per winning pair and nothing for the losing pair is peanuts compared to many other game shows.

Fun Show which challenges your Lateral Thinking
mycarr-4983019 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Very unique show which challenges your ability to think outside the box. The acerbic host calls people idiots because that's the premise of the show, you are an idiot if you miss the obvious answers. Yes, he is a little sexist at times but he has his truly funny moments too. The only negative is the poorly researched and worded questions. For example, one question stated that only twelve men went to the moon. This is absolutely wrong! 12 men walked on the moon but 6 more went as Command Module pilots and James Lovell went twice without walking on it. Jack Swigert and Fred Haise went in Apollo 13 but never landed. William Anders and Frank Borman went in Apollo 8 with Lovell but didn't land. 3 men went in Apollo 10 but didn't land. Two of them became moon walkers later. Three men went twice. All told, 24 different men went to the moon.

Nicely done
lwendells29 January 2022
Good show. Very informative and creative.. Just one question: When asked the question of "who is off the rocker?" .. Jerry Seinfeld was the answer, accordingly. Granted Mick Jagger IS a rocker, I believe. So, isn't Mick off the rocker?

Question: Why are the " k " and " w " silent in the word " no "?

Thank you, Louis.

Funny and entertaining, and you get to see if YOU are an idiot :)
beaconb7 February 2023
I started watching this on the Pluto streaming service. The host, Ben Glieb, really makes the show; he is that funny! Ben's interactions with the contestants provides a nice, personal touch; you almost feel like you know the contestants. The tests are fun to watch and try to solve. Many of the tests are incredibly easy, but some are at the level it would take a Mensa member to solve. I don't know how many full seasons the show has run, or whether it is still running, but I plan to continue to watch as many as I can. The one thing I can't believe, is how long reviews have to be to qualify for posting now!

Really Awesome Game Show
wonderwoman-605467 May 2023
Idiotest is a really funny game show and I think Ben Glieb is the perfect host for this game. I don't think I would watch it if it had a different host. They did an April fools show where they got a different host to start it off and I didn't know it was the April fools episode, and I was immediately disappointed until Ben Glieb came on stage and they ultimately said "April fools." Then I laughed and was relived he was still the host. This game show makes you think. If people don't like it, maybe it is because they don't get it, or they never get the right answers. It has sarcastic humor which I really like so very much. It makes you have to pay attention which is a good thing! I am still hopeful they bring back this show with new episodes! In the meantime I'll keep watching the re-runs.
