This article contains spoilers for Saving Private Ryan.
Steven Spielberg’s Saving Private Ryan (1998) is known for a number of things: the gut-wrenching, visceral terror of its battle scenes (especially the opening landing at Omaha Beach), the shocking way in which bodies are torn to pieces during the course of those battles, the attention to period detail, and a powerful performance by Tom Hanks that rates as one of his finest.
But one thing that the film may not be as widely recognized for is the lineup of young actors who played members of Capt. John Miller’s (Hanks) squad, or soldiers they met along the way as they searched throughout Normandy for the missing Pvt. James Francis Ryan. From Matt Damon to Vin Diesel, Spielberg recruited relatively new faces who were all, in one way or another, either launching their careers outright or just starting to make their mark on Hollywood.

Dark times fall on four high school friends after a traumatic event takes place in the woods involving a samurai sword. EW says that Super Dark Times is a beautifully made film about how the awkwardness of high school friendships and how they can feel like murder. You can check out the trailer and poster for the film here. Super Dark Times was directed by Kevin Phillips and this is what he had to say about the project:
“There was a time when the screenwriters [Ben Collins and Luke Piotrowski] and I referred to the film’s genre as ‘nostalgia horror,’ but we moved away from that label,” Phillips says. “We were hoping to utilize ideas of nostalgia but dive a bit deeper and create a situation that audiences could relate to and hopefully be a bit hypnotized by.”

“A harrowing but meticulously observed look at teenage lives in the era prior to the Columbine High School massacre,” reads the official synopsis for Super Dark Times, director Kevin Phillips’ feature debut - his 2015 short film, Too Cool For School, premiered at the Cannes Film Festival to enthusiastic reviews.
Set in 1995 suburbia, Super Dark Times stars Owen Campbell (The Americans, Boardwalk Empire) and Charlie Tahan (Wayward Pines, Love Is Strange) as the two best friends. It also features Amy Hargreaves (13 Reasons Why), Max Talisman (Orange Is The New Black), Elizabeth Cappuccino (Jessica Jones), and Sawyer Barth (Public Morals).
The trailer hints at a traumatic event in the woods that involves four high school students and a samurai sword, but the advance press hints the film is more about shifting dynamics of high school.

Every week, IndieWire asks a select handful of TV critics two questions and publishes the results on Tuesday. (The answer to the second, “What is the best show currently on TV?” can be found at the end of this post.)
This week’s question: If you could give one canceled show one extra season (if only to wrap things up in a better way), which would it be?
Daniel Fienberg (@TheFienPrint), The Hollywood Reporter
It wasn’t that we were watching “Hannibal” just to see Bryan Fuller and company get to the events of “Silence of the Lambs,” but that was sure a fun thing looming on the horizon. The “Manhunter”/”Red Dragon” arc was probably the show’s most conventional, but it was all the more intriguing for that odd disconnect, of a frequently told story going through the mind of one of TV’s most original storytellers and...

When Hollywood screenwriter Brian Burns wrote Daddy's Home based on his own real-life experiences as a stepdad, he never anticipated comedic legend Will Ferrell playing him in the film. "I'm such a huge Will Ferrell fan," Burns tells People. "One of my first dates with my wife Kelly was to see Elf and I can remember coming out of that movie and my dream was to write a Will Ferrell movie. TNT has done a lot of renewing and cancelling this week, making some big decisions regarding the fates of many series, including Major Crimes, The Librarians, and Legends. On the renewal side of things, TNT has ordered new seasons of Major Crimes and The Librarians. Major Crimes, which will go on a two-month hiatus following its Dec. 21 episode before returning in February for the final five installments of Season 4, will be entering its fifth season, which will consist of 13 episodes. Meanwhile, The Librarians, whose Season 2 finale airs on Sunday, Dec. 27, has been picked up for a 10-episode third season. Both shows join Murder in the First, which was renewed for Season 3 last month by TNT. Unfortunately, there wasn’t good news for all of the cable network’s series, as three shows were given the axe. In addition to renewing Major Crimes and Librarians, TNT cancelled Legends, Agent X, and Public Morals.
