Negative reviews are the result of people's extremely high expectations, the show is still actually good and I laughed more when I watched each season 8 episode second time.

Review of episode 1 - The Locomotion Interruption.

The show started with a really funny scene with Sheldon and I went like Ha! I knew it! ha ha Sheldon is funny as usual, while I kinda felt sorry for the poor grown up kid in this opening scene.

Amy is weird and funny. She does a good job.

Penny's new hair style is actually quite good and she looked pretty. This change isn't bothering me, she still makes nice jokes.

Raj's character is underused as usual and better writing is required for him. Raj looked kinda angry and serious, not sure why, I guess he need to continue the way he was in previous seasons, as long as he is used little bit more in the show.

Howard is funny and there is a twist in the mother-son relationship.

Bernadette receives attention in this episode and her personality is defined.

The comic book guy Stuart is really surprising in this season, earlier he has always been a depressed lonely and grateful to his friends kind of guy, who does not get angry or stand up on insults. Now its like a whole new Stuart in this season.

Overall, I'd agree that this start of the season is not as good as it had been in earlier seasons but as a big bang theory fan I wouldn't criticize it unnecessarily. The show was worth a watch.

Really disappointing
minunimion31 December 2015
TBBT is going down; few laughs, often sadness, nothing new, easily predictable, the characters are a mess. Penny is a really beautiful woman with her wonderful long hair... OMG, what disappointment! Sheldon is always more insensitive, arrogant, self righteous and childish, insulting is the only mean that he uses to communicate, I don't like him anymore. Howard is a very good actor, but he can't do anything with such that script. Amy: what I can say? Just nothing, she doesn't exist anymore. Leonard: a slave in the Sheldon's hands... not a problem, but sometimes that's bothering. Bernadette: I save her, I like her, it's the pepper in the soup, tiny, smart, clever, intelligent woman. Rajes: he's colorless, he's doing nothing, he's there, sometimes you wonder why. At the end I've to say that TBBT is going to be boring, probably its time is over... I enjoyed everything, all the seasons; now it's time to write: the end.

Good first episode for the season opener
szerencsegames8 October 2014
Warning: Spoilers
SPOILERS!

Personally, I quite enjoyed this episode; especially after having seen the next three episodes of the eighth season. Some very funny scenes in this episode; my favourite being Sheldon and Leonard talking 'privately' in the car, where Sheldon tells Leonard he wants to have 'coitus' with Amy, only to check if she is listening to him or not. I very much liked this episode, but no lie it is quite a bit of some of the best episodes of the show, I only mean that it was a good episode to the show's current standards. My rating:

8.2

"The Locomotive Interruption" was a good enough season premiere of "The Big Bang Theory"
tavm9 November 2014
Warning: Spoilers
In a nutshell: Sheldon is stuck in a police station in Arizona and calls Leonard to pick him up there. Leonard takes Amy with him and she's a bit peeved Sheldon didn't call her since she's his girlfriend, after all. Howard doesn't like Stuart spending all his time with his mother who we find out is named Debbie. Stuart was supposed to move out since she's better now...except they get along so well now, they use each other's names when recording the phone message. Penny seems to not do well in her job interview for Bernadette's drug company...until the boss reveals he's also afraid of Bern as they bond over that. This was a funny enough ep of "The Big Bang Theory" for the season premiere. I especially like that boss after revealing his fear of Bernadette. He's played by Stephen Root, perhaps best known as the station manager on "NewsRadio". Oh, also loved the exchanges between Howard and Raj about Howard's mother and Stuart and how Howard seems jealous over the whole thing. So on that note, "The Locomotive Interruption" was a good enough season premiere of "The Big Bang Theory".

He's Baaaaack!
Hitchcoc3 November 2021
There were several choice moments here. First of all, Sheldon in his tidy whities in the bus station. Then Sheldon sitting across from the cop in the police station. Sheldon's arrogance in the car ride back. Penny's job interview and the guy who interviews. Howards confrontation with Stuart at his mom's house. So much fun as the gang gets back together.

Hmmmmmm

Warning: Spoilers
That might be the weakest episode of BBT I've ever seen. Disjointed, uneven . . . wow. The best part was Penny interviewing with the pharmaceutical exec, Steven Root. I LOVE STEVEN ROOT!

Techno Geeks?
darbski13 July 2018
Warning: Spoilers
***SPOILERS*** Okay, I liked this episode. I liked Penny's Pixie cut (face it folks, she always looks good). I liked Penny's new boss (he's always funny and weird - fits right in, here), I even liked Sheldon confessing that he's insecure. Who would ever think that people who are condescending are also insecure???? Duh - he's still a pill. I was surprised that Amy actually didn't listen in. I guess what really surprised me was that a techie from CalTech couldn't figure out a better way to get Shelly back from Arizona. Like maybe fly over there, and bring creds from work to get him squared away. I mean if an outfit like C.T. CAN'T get it done, who in the hell can??? Did anyone else notice this discrepancy? It's an 8

Once upon a time, there was a good show with a name: "The big bang theory"
mehranmontreal26 September 2014
Once upon a time, there was a good show with a name: "The big bang theory" Now, what has been left is just a repetition, just repetition of annoying behaviors and not the funny ones! You can easily predict the reaction and actions of all the characters e.g. Sheldon considers himself the best, rule model, .... I can name many of these trends. I think the show has just lost its vibe. The relationship between characters are getting more annoying and they just annoy each other. I hope the writers of show start to understand that they cannot just have a successful show with just predictable things and I hope they put more surprising and funny stories like in the firsts seasons.

Leonard and Amy go to rescue Sheldon. Howard doesn't like Stewart living at his mothers.

Warning: Spoilers
What a disappointment. I loved this show- have belly laughed repeatedly throughout the seasons. But I didn't crack a smile once tonight. There was very little originality in the various plots. The characters seem to have become caricatures of themselves. Has anyone of them changed their behavior or opinions? least of all Sheldon. Surely he has learned some basic societal rules in 7 years??? Once again, he shows little compassion for others- or even willingness to understand them. In addition, when he says in the car to Leonard that he is going to have "coitus" with Amy, merely to test if she is listening to him from the back seat, I felt completely cheated by the writers. That relationship has completely stagnated. Run out of material guys??

And we are back with a bang
kevinmorice24 September 2014
Warning: Spoilers
Although the closest thing we get to bangs in this episode is Kaley Cuoco-Sweetings horrid new haircut. So awful that it gets not one, not two but three mentions in what I can only assume is meant to make it more intentional to the viewer.

Four months of prep for this series and the funniest thing that they can come up with is Chuck Lorre's vanity card, where he points out that he has had 4 months to prepare that and has come up with nothing at all.

The writers continue their plan to just bully and belittle Sheldon and his flaws without any of the empathy or sympathy of the early series. And with Jim Parsons spending another off-season in the gym he doesn't even look like the socially-challenged bookworm from the early years.

Amy continues to be a pointless waste of screen time both interacting with Sheldon and Penny. Her whole 'relationship' with Sheldon makes absolutely no sense to either of them and continues to mystify not only the viewers but the other characters and apparently the script writers themselves.

Bernadette at least helps to round out Howard's character but now his arc is turning into an overly complex mess as he has his mother issues, father issues, wife issues, PhD issues, boyfriend (Raj) issues and space issues all at the same time.

The 2 star rating for this episode is bcuz of Stuart Bloom.
nlk8715 October 2022
It ANGERS me, just COMPLETELY INFURIATING, that Stuart takes advantage of Howard's mom's loneliness & vulnerability & tries to replace Howard.

The character of Stuart Bloom is a fake & fictional character that TRULY gets under my skin. It's baffling how I can hate some 1 so much that doesn't exist.

I have decided to write a review each episode I just CAN'T STAND bcuz of Kevin Sussman's character, "Stuart." I really really can't watch how he mooch's off of every single main character, the things he says truly annoys me. Some feel "sorry" for his character, but me no way. I just don't understand why the writers wrote his character this way. Throughout the series he claims to be so broke, but he still can afford to keep the comic book store open, & can afford hospital bills, pills, & therapy... Instead of abusing his customers hospitality, sell the store & get a job.. Stuart's character isn't funny at all. I just really can't stand him so much I fast forward the scenes he's mooching & just plain talking at all...
