All castration all the time.
jastpeel-37-48365523 July 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The program started out okay but seems to have devolved into every episode having at least one castration. Cringe factor? I know that castrations are necessary but when it becomes a staple of the program it becomes a bit pedestrian. Showing a couple, pigs and horses, would be sufficient.

I've never seen her help deliver a calf
Queenbee608 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Along with Dr Oakley Yukon Vet; I also watch the Incredible Dr Pol, and Heartland Docs. In the latter two shows quite often a veterinarian will have to help deliver a live, or sometimes dead calf.

Since I've only started watching Dr Oakley last year, it's possible I've missed her doing it. It's just odd that Drs Pol, Brenda, Lisa, etc are dealing with a troubled calf birth just about every episode.

I've seen Dr Oakley help deliver puppies and goats, but nothing else. It makes me wonder if she can handle it.

Having said all this, I do love her enthusiasm and the show.

This is a great vet show!
rafferty-908129 November 2023
I don't know how anyone could rate this a 1 but everybody has their own opinion. I love Dr Oakley and family too. I find them humorous and the animals and landscape so majestic. I probably watch it a lot because of all the scenery but I am so sad to hear that this show is coming to an end. I really have come to love this family and this vet show. I think Dr. Oakley is funny and this probably sounds weird, would love to have her as a friend. I'm very sorry to see this is the last season but hopefully you will come back with something else! Thank you Dr. Oakley and family! You are all some very strong women!

Oakley, a wonderful Vet!
jeanne-1200623 October 2016
We LOVE this great program -- Dr. Michelle Oakley is truly a Vet to look up to -- she certainly has a varied practice, and she doesn't talk baby talk like another one of those female vets on a similar program, she calls them sweet names, sure, but she treats them all with great respect. Her medicine is up-to-date, very thorough, and she's a credit to her profession. I don't know how I can fill up 10 lines without saying things people watching already know, but I can say she has a great husband, she is teaching her daughters the profession, Sierra now helps her in the office and in the field, she treats all animals with great care, from birds, mammals, to rodents and reptiles, alike, with tender care and a great spirit. I love the beginning where it shows the Eagle she's releasing, her hair blows with the great bird's wind in taking off ruffles her hair. We think she's a beautiful person! Keep up the great work, doc!

For the reviewer above...

Obviously you don't watch the show. Almost every time there is a horse part of an episode she brings along anotjer more qualified Vet. She makes it very clear that she is not an Equine specialist. God Bless... here she is doing all this incredible work for an untold amount of people then YOU come along and try and make her out to be an amateur. Just terrible!!

Great Dr.
stan-8386618 June 2020
I really enjoyed this series. Dr. Oakley knows her stuff and if she dosn't know the answer, she knows where to get that answer. Lots of amazing animals you don't get to see everyday and many you do, but Dr. Oakley loves all of them. She is the most genuine vet on tv as far as I'm concerned. A wonderful since of humor as well, she cracks the camera crew up frequently with her one liners. Please watch this amazing show. It's worth it.

Excellent program/programming
stephenyoung-6230815 August 2018
I have found this program to be all around excellent!! I have my grandchildren hooked on it and we record and rewatch many of the shows. One of the parts of Dr. Oakley's show that I find vey helpful is that she takes the time to explain the various procedures she is performing and why. The children follow this and learn a lot from watching. Wish Michelle practiced in North Carolina!! Well, maybe one day one of the girls will! Keep up the great work Oakley Family!!

This vet knows nothing about horses!
sweetspringday21 May 2014
Warning: Spoilers
I saw an episode on 5/20/14, not sure of the title or original air date.

This review contains details of the episode such as diagnosis and Dr. Oakley's recommendations but not the decision on the horse's treatment, because I changed the channel after seeing her incompetence with this horse.

A horse was in pain, had difficulty walking, and raw ulcers inside the mouth. It had previously fractured a leg a year or so earlier but was clearly healed as it was putting the same weight on that leg as the others.

Dr. Oakley and the owner recognized the horse was in pain. Dr. Oakley diagnosed possible arthritis as the cause of the pain and systemic issues that might cause the ulcers in the mouth.

Here's what she missed: the horse's pain walking was very obviously coming from the feet--not the joints. Judging by the major overgrowth of the hooves and too small SHOES STILL ON, the horse was sore because the owner hadn't trimmed and shod the horse in months. So the horse's shoes were pulling the hoof in at the bottom with every step, making him sore. TAKE THE SHOES OFF! Also---the horses teeth were an absolute MESS, probably hadn't ever been floated! Of course he had ulcers in the mouth! This is basic stuff people. Don't need a veterinary degree to see it.

The scenery on the show is enjoyable but I won't watch anymore after this episode....too upsetting to watch her misinform viewers and give really bad advice to the owner.

More filler lately?
avnrulz15 May 2023
It seems some of the new episodes have a lot of 'filler'. There was a whole episode spent on the passing of their pug. Now, granted, we all love our pets, but this pug had been in declining health for awhile, and, all the work done seemed to be for the family's sake and not the dog's. We're happy to see the 'clinic runs' when they go to remote settlements and help out with the inhabitants, and some of the folks with farms and ranches really have their work cut out for them in AL.

The episode with the 'C. V. quarantine' (May, 2023) seemed like a set-up for the daughters, as Dr. O said she was quarantining, but then we see her on her ATV/Snowmobile out in the yard during the video chat.

More power to Sierra for pursuing a career as a Veterinarian, wonder if a camera crew will be dispatched to follow her? After all, there had a been a program focusing on students in Veterinarian college a few years back.

Great show
batik-8823 July 2020
What a cool show :) Dr Oakley is a great vet and you can tell she genuinely takes care of the animals she treats. It's interesting also to see how families and people live in such a remote area.

Love this show, but....
leilanigrovell9 November 2018
I love th is show but I hate absolutley hate the little side facts that pop up . In the first few seasons they didnt have this . But as of late they have these side notes with facts and quotes and while its educational it's annoying and moving from the moving picture on the screen and then to the facts on the left hand side and back and forth gives me a nauseating headache and make me either not read or stop the show altogether and watch something else

Inspiring, cheering, lots of interesting stories
CealCraig9 April 2021
Dr. Oakley is a consummate professional, always demonstrating care for the animals she treats, and the humans that raise them. Informative stories and great views of the Yukon and Alaska. Surprised that season 10 is not yet in IMDB?!

AWESOME
cfranklincf17 December 2022
Really love watching dr. Oakley, yukon vet. She has a great sense of humor and you can tell that she really cares about the animals she cares for. She does not talk down to her audience and she explains everything in a clear manner that every layman can understand. She is above and beyond the other vets on the television and i really enjoy watching her. She treats all the animals she cares for with respect and dignity. Looking forward to seeing more of the shows in the future. I have noticed that she always makes sure that the animals that she treats come first and are treated humanly, not like the other vet shows i have watched. Again she is head and shoulders above the rest.

Boring, don't waste your time!
ajb-8186226 September 2023
I spent some time watching this show and was instantly bored and disgusted; it shows a bunch of disgusting images of various bodily fluids and the boredom was prevalent within the first couple minutes, DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME ON THIS SHOW, tons of great shows on tv, definitely not worth your time. The lady consistently uses grotesque wording, does not provide any legitimate information beyond basic wordings, and consistently acts rude. It is very unfortunate, we have very limited resources as a society and for shows like these to be popular is very upsetting as there are millions of people who are in very severe situations and shows should be revolving around those things (or at least even a percent of the animal shows) with these resources.
