Great Opening Episode
8512225 February 2017
Greetings from Lithuania.

The opening episode of "Narcos" named "Descenso" is just a great TV all around. Captivating script and bigger then life true story, great acting, solid directing and excellent pacing - its all here. Cinematography was also very good, but you can't ask anything else (and expect it) from a pilot - the first episode that has to hook viewers - and it delivers fully. After more series you kinda can see the series quality better, but at the moment after first episode i can say - i'm in for a ride.

Overall, the opening episode of "Narcos" isn't a masterpiece nor it tells a really fresh story, because if you watch a lot of movies and TV shows you have seen it before, but who cares if it is done so good. Great opening episode.

Narcos Season 1 Episode 1

What a great pilot! I just started watching this show out of curiosity because the reviews here on IMDB are great and they are not wrong this has to be one of the best original pilots on Netflix. If the rest of the show is like this I'll easily give it a 9.

Homecoming

One of the realist visual releases of a globalised criminal is presented to Netflix in style. We immediately care for this timid yet volatile man, shaped by the experiences accumulated by crawling out from the slums of Colombia. This series takes on what we have successfully seen many times before, having the protagonist convert into the antagonist creating a more exciting piece with the inclusion of factual history. This series is similar to HBO's The Wire in that it rewards you for paying attention to detail and the elements of realism mixed with the creative methods that these real people created in order obtain such an illegal goal is truly mesmerising. The bridge scene reminds us of how powerful Pablo Escobar really was and that this is not just about the distribution of cocaine but the laborious man work and obstacles that would inevitably come with. A truly real piece of art that was well researched, written and visualised!

the cocaine business

I enjoyed the first episode. It have some interesting moments and events. We can see the relationship between narcos and the police and with the dealer. Pretty interesting TV Show with a great moment at the end when Escobar pay for a service. I enjoyed also to see the whole business behind it and how it work. We have also some historical context: with a mention to Reagan. And some real facts about Escobar. This first episode was pretty good and it have interesting moments but i need to see more to have a complete opinion.

The American Government and Drug Dealers are Equally Bad.
jamericanbeauty30 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
People ranted and raved about this show, so I gave it a go and no. It's not the show for me. It was predictable and bias. Communism's not so bad because President Nixon installed a President way worse who killed thousands and the episode's short on details of the thousands killed. Were they bad criminals? Political opposition? Who knows. Meanwhile, Communism throughout history has killed millions and impoverished millions. Go look throughout history, the most recent downfall of the once-prosperous Venezuela. Episode 1 shows some Chilean dope dealers lined up for execution via a police firing squad. The camera pans slowly over their scared faces, as if they're victims. I grew up in a drug-infested neighborhood. I know what it looks like. A productive, hardworking Mom becomes a crackhead zombie who doesn't care about her body or feeding her kids. A poor Grandma ends up raising the kids if they're lucky. Dope dealers destroy families and communities all for greed. They deserve no sympathy. The American government is of course shown in a cold, uncaring light. They don't care about the drug epidemic, only that they're not financially benefitting from it. The narration by the DEA agent is dry and drained me. His patriotism died he tells us. Typical. He sounds miserable and tired of the job. Why in the world would he move his Wife and raise a baby in the middle of a violent drug war in Columbia? The killings of rival drug dealers is predictable. I could see every move coming before it came. The only thing the show got right was the casting for Pablo Escobar. He's commanding, ambitious, and ruthless, down to the soulless eyes and sinister smile. Episode 1 is the end of the road for me.
