Exclusive: Pierce Brosnan (Fast Charlie), Samuel L. Jackson (Argylle), and Brandon Lessard (Murder at Yellowstone City) are in Montana shooting Unholy Trinity, a Western helmed by Richard Gray (Robert the Bruce), which has secured a SAG-AFTRA Interim Agreement.
Described as a tale of revenge, dark secrets, and buried treasures, the film is set against the turbulent backdrop of 1870s Montana. It picks up in the moments before the execution of Isaac Broadway, as he gives his estranged son, Henry (Lessard), an impossible task: murder the man who framed him for a crime he didn’t commit. Intent on fulfilling his promise, Henry travels to the remote town of Trinity, where an unexpected turn of events traps him in town and leaves him caught between Gabriel Dove (Brosnan), the town’s upstanding new sheriff, and a mysterious figure named St. Christopher (Jackson).

In late-1964-early-1965, Lou Reed wrote to the poet Delmore Schwartz, his creative-writing professor at Syracuse University, and described his life in New York City since graduating the previous spring. Reed noted his unsubmitted Harvard application and ambivalence about grad school; he obliquely referenced the “sick but strange and fascinating” experiences he’d been having, mentioning “rich johns on park ave” willing to pay up to 700 to watch displays involving “the more esoteric sexual art forms.” He described his job at Pickwick Records, a discount label/song mill, churning out...

To hear the first few seconds of the video above may catch you by surprise: It’s Lou Reed announcing the title of a song while declaring he wrote the words and music. Only it’s a song we know very well — “I’m Waiting for the Man” — and it’s from 1965.
The earliest known recording of the New York classic pre-dates the Velvet Underground, with whom Reed would release it two years later on The Velvet Underground & Nico. The demo is off Words & Music, May 1965, the first installment...

On August 26th, 1973, Joni Mitchell arrived at Studio Instrument Rentals in Los Angeles, where Neil Young and his band the Santa Monica Flyers were recording the boozy Tonight’s the Night. Joined by guitarists Ben Keith and Nils Lofgren, drummer Ralph Molina, and bassist Billy Talbot, Mitchell and Young tore through “Raised on Robbery,” soon to be released on her album Court and Spark.
If the Tonight’s the Night sessions were indeed a “drunken Irish wake,” as Talbot later recalled, this take on “Raised on Robbery” was the eulogy.

Painter, poet and musician Joni Mitchell turns 75 years old today. Her artistry has encompassed pop, rock, folk and jazz, earning varying degrees of praise and criticism, especially for her more experimental, jazz-centric works, but she remains, unquestionably, one of the most influential songwriters of the past 50 years.

Live performances by Neil Young and Joni Mitchell, recorded at a student ministry on the University of Michigan campus in 1968, were among the professional-quality recordings unearthed by the Michigan History Project.
Seven-inch reel-to-reel audio tapes featuring concerts by Tim Buckley, Odetta, David Ackles and Dave Van Ronk were also among the recordings made at the Canterbury House, an Ann Arbor, Michigan venue that hosted counterculture events in the mid to late-Sixties.
The Michigan History Project recently acquired the recordings, with the non-profit organization now seeking a record label interested in releasing the concerts.

The Stranger Things franchise just got a little more awesome today. Netflix has announced that actors Cary Elwes (The Princess Bride) and Jake Busey (The Frighteners) have joined that cast of the upcoming third season!
Cary Elwes will be playing a character named Mayor Kline, who is described as being "handsome, slick, and sleazy. Mayor Kline is your classic ’80s politician – more concerned with his own image than with the people of the small town he governs."
Jake Busey will be taking on the role of Bruce, "a journalist for the The Hawkins Post with questionable morals and a sick sense of humor."

Sugar Mountain‘s core premise is decent enough. Faced with repossession of their dead mother’s fishing boat (due to a Harvard concert pianist losing a couple of fingers after slipping on the deck), brothers Liam and Miles (Shane Coffey and Drew Roy), together with Miles’ girlfriend Lauren (Haley Webb) cook up a missing person hoax.
Here’s the plan: cocky and confident Miles will get into a staged bar fight with the quieter Liam over Lauren. The next day the brothers will go for a hike on the titular Sugar Mountain to try and clear the air, but get into a ‘fight’ midway up. Miles storms off into the wilderness and when he doesn’t return, Liam to raises the alarm in town. With Aron Ralston (of 127 Hours fame) firmly on their minds, they foresee a media storm that they’ll milk to the fullest when Miles ‘miraculously’ returns a fortnight later,...

Jason Momoa has been a busy guy of late. Since moving from small cable TV (Stargate: Atlantis) to Big cale TV (Game Of Thrones) it seems that both the industry at large and Momoa himself have been scrambling to figure out what, exactly, to do with the talented brute. His mass appeal is obvious and being carried out with blockbuster roles such as the upcoming Aquaman but Momoa clearly has the urge to prove himself in smaller indie far as well whether in recent writer-director effort Road To Paloma, Ana Lily Amirpour's The Bad Batch or upcoming effort Sugar Mountain. Momoa plays the heavy here as a violent man owed ten thousand dollars by a local youth. The youth - having no way of coming...

"I went missing up on that mountain right there? Well, we'd have a hell of a story." The first trailer for a survival thriller titled Sugar Mountain has arrived online. The film is about two brothers who decide to fake a disappearance in the Alaskan wilderness so they'll have a great survival story to sell. However, things don't go exactly as planned and they end up in even more trouble than before. Jason Momoa stars with Cary Elwes, Melora Walters, Anna Hutchison, John Karna, Drew Roy, Haley Webb and Shane Coffey. This looks like a bit of a mess, with lots of drama among characters and not enough actual survival, though it's hard to judge from this trailer alone. I'm curious but honestly not expecting that much from this. Here's the first official trailer for Richard Gray's Sugar Mountain, direct from YouTube: Two brothers, down on their luck, fake...

We already know that Jason Momoa is pretty tough. We also know that he’ll make for a very different Aquaman when he comes to the big screen in Zack Snyder’s Justice League film. Before that, however, Momoa will flex his very impressive muscles in Sugar Mountain, and based on the recently released trailer, this seems like a story of why you shouldn’t piss the actor off.
Sugar Mountain is the story of two brothers in debt to a local heavy (Momoa) who decide to fake a disappearance in the wilderness, thus getting themselves a great survival story and a chance at fame. Things go wrong, though – as you knew they would – when the plan actually winds up endangering them, and the local sheriff (Cary Elwes) suspects foul play.

Jason Momoa is set to make his big debut as Aquaman in Zack Snyder’s “Justice League” next year, but before we see the actor as the DC Comics superhero fans can see him as a ruthless thug in “Sugar Mountain.”

Beloved horror cult gem Audition will be getting an English-language remake. Takashi Miike’s 1999 film–which doubled as a public service announcement about the potential dangers of piano wire–was based on a 1997 novel by Japanese author Ryu Murakami.
The new film will transplant the story to an American setting. It’s being produced by Mario Kassar, the iconic ’80s-era producer of films like Terminator and Rambo. It will be written and directed by Richard Gray, the Australian director who’s currently wrapping up Jason Momoa’s Sugar Mountain. Update: A rep for Gray confirmed his participating to EW, and...

The cult horror classic Audition, Takashi Miike’s breakout film from 1999, is getting the Hollywood treatment with an English language remake planned to shoot this fall.
Deadline reported Friday that the remake will be produced by Mario Kassar (Terminator, Rambo) and directed by Richard Gray (the upcoming The Lookalike and Sugar Mountain).
Miike’s film, based on a novel by Ryu Murakami, is about a man who puts out a casting call for a new girlfriend and finds the woman he selects is not all she appears. This adaptation falls into that nebulous territory of not strictly being a remake of the Japanese film but a new adaptation of Murakami’s story with an American setting.
And this of course is hardly the first cult horror film to fall under Hollywood’s purview. Last year the Spike Lee directed Oldboy, a remake of a South Korean film with just as many cringe-worthy moments,...

It was supposed to be something holy, for God’s sake, when old Ernie sat down at the piano . . . I swear to God, If I were a piano player, or an actor or something, and all those dopes thought I was terrific, I’d hate it. I wouldn’t even want them to clap for me. People always clap at the wrong things. If I were a piano player, I’d play it in the goddamn closet.
