Wattpad Webtoon Studios, the screen entertainment arm of web-based publisher of Webtoon Entertainment, and Skybound Entertainment, the banner behind The Walking Dead and Invincible, are teaming up to develop an adaptation of webcomic hit Freaking Romance.
Matthew Kic and Mike Sorce, rising scribes who have twice had scripts on the Black List, have been tapped to pen the screenplay for what is intended to be a live-action feature.
Aron Levitz, David Madden and Jason Goldberg will produce for Wattpad Webtoon. Robert Kirkman, David Alpert and Rick Jacobs are producing the film via Skybound. Skybound’s Fred D. Lee will oversee the project.

Exclusive: Walking Dead maker Skybound Entertainment has struck what it is calling a “first-of-its-kind” deal with Prime Video over a dystopian thriller series from Scandinavia.
Amazon has taken rights in the Nordics for Vaka but Skybound retains worldwide distribution and controls the show’s “global commissioning structure.” This means Skybound can strike deals with buyers and sellers in different territories while the door remains open for Prime Video to acquire Vaka for other regions further down the line.
Set in Stockholm and starring Aliette Opheim and Jonas Karlsson, Vaka follows the spread of a deadly insomnia epidemic. A disgraced minister must balance addressing the crisis and caring for his son, while an ambulance nurse goes to great lengths to save her lover.
The show is co-produced by Amazon MGM Studios, Unlimited Stories and Sagafilm, the latter of which was acquired by Skybound and 5th Planet Games last year. The Icelandic...

Demi Lovato faced some backlash on social media after she performed her 2013 hit song “Heart Attack” at a cardiovascular health event earlier this week.
The track was among her 10-song set at the American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women Red Dress Collection Concert in New York City on Wednesday.
The Hollywood Reporter learned on Friday that the singer thought she wouldn’t be able to perform that song again following her heart attack and near-death experience several years ago. But she recently reclaimed the song for herself and expressed that to the audience, adding what it meant to her.
“While my next song is about the intense feelings that come with falling in love as well as heart break, opening yourself up, taking risks and not being afraid to do it again, this song has many parallels for me, my journey and a reminder for all of us...

This article contains spoilers for "The Marvels" mid-credits scene.
Not to be dramatic, but I think I would die to protect Iman Vellani. It's been a while since an actor has come onto the scene and so clearly exuded superstar power on screen, but Vellani's turn as Kamala Khan in both the "Ms. Marvel" series and the latest venture in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Nia Dacosta's "The Marvels," is proof-positive that she has "It." Not only does she bring a dynamic grasp on comedic timing, but she's also got an infectious energy to every scene, beyond her character's fangirl obsession with Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel. This is probably because Vellani is as effervescent and full of positive energy off-screen as she is in front of the camera. During /Film's own Ethan Anderton's interview with Vellani, he asked about the mid-credits scene (our explainer here) and whether or not she knew it was coming,...

Being a superstar doesn’t always mean having chart hits.
From massive rock groups and boy bands to iconic vocalists and singer-songwriters, there are countless acts that have managed to inspire generations of entertainers and win over millions of fans without having ever actually notched a No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
Over the years, there have been some especially surprising icons who would seem to have a few No. 1s under their belt, but for whatever reason, their songs never managed to wind up sitting at the top spot of the chart.
Not having a No. 1 doesn’t take away from these talented artists’ repertoire, and it’s pretty interesting to see how charts don’t always mean everything when it comes to a musician’s success and impact on the culture.

When Demi Lovato went on tour for their punk-rock-leaning album Holy Fvck last year, they wanted to find a way to seamlessly incorporate their pop hits into the setlist in a way that felt natural: “How am I going to play ‘Sorry Not Sorry’ next to ‘Skin of My Teeth’?” they remember thinking.

Pop-star Demi Lovato is all set to release a rock version of her 2017 hit song ‘Sorry Not Sorry’, which will feature Slash, the lead guitarist of legendary hard rock band Guns N’ Roses. Promoting the track, Demi posted on social media, which Slash also reposted, “‘Sorry Not Sorry’ Rock Version feat. Slash. This Friday! Have your pre-saved?”
While the lyrics for the song will remain the same, the popular track will now have a heavier sound and an attitude packed twist due to Demi going more aggressive and the guitar icon’s hard edged heavy riffs, giving the whole track a different vibe.
According to Billboard, “Upon its original release in 2017, ‘Sorry Not Sorry’ peaked at No. 6 on the Billboard Hot 100 songs chart, marking her highest-charting hit. The track spent an impressive 36 total weeks on the tally.”
‘Sorry Not Sorry’ will follow a string of other rock versions of Demi’s prior pop hits.

It's not a skyscraper, but Demi Lovato's modern California home is just as impressive. The "Heart Attack" singer showed off her stylish house in an Architectural Digest Open Door video Sept. 7, where each room was intentionally designed by Demi to have its own personality. "For this house, I wanted to make each room very special and different from the next," she said. "When curating the collection of art for this house, I wanted to highlight emerging artists from underrepresented communities." Taking viewers inside the home, Demi showed off her living room, outdoor space for her dogs, glam room and kitchen. The glam room had a hot pink and...

A sprig of roaring power emo with your grime, madam? Side of jazz soul? Dash of playlist indie? The modern Reading Festival is an eclectic beast. For the first 45 or so years since one of the oldest existing popular music festivals settled in Reading, through periods of prog, hard rock, metal and indie dominance, it acted as the place that anyone who wasn’t interested in pop music could make their summer second home. Since around 2018, though, it’s faced an identity crisis. What do you do when your core niche – rock music – no longer sells the tickets you have to shift?
Reading & Leeds’s answer has been an attempt to become all festivals to all people – well, all glitter-smothered students clothed largely in netting. The 2022 festival, as a result, resembles three different festivals for the price of one. Friday is akin to a condensed Wireless, headed by rap and grime but accepting all-comers.

When Olivia Newton-John died on Monday at the age of 73, the entertainment world lost an icon. The multi-talented British-Australian performer first rose to prominence as a pop star in the 1970s with the hit albums “If You Love Me, Let Me Know” and “Have You Never Been Mellow,” but movie lovers will always remember her as Sandy Olsson. Her starring role in “Grease” resulted in many of the most iconic musical numbers in film history, from “Summer Nights” to “You’re the One That I Want.” Newton-John’s musical pedigree and chemistry with Travolta went a long way toward propelling the film to success, and its soundtrack remains one of the best-selling albums in music history.
While “Grease” remained her most notable role, Newton-John continued to parlay her strong musical stage presence into a variety of other film parts. She notably starred in the Electric Light Orchestra musical “Xanadu,” which...

Olivia Newton-John, the multiple-Grammy-winning “Physical” and “I Honestly Love You” singer who went on to star in the beloved film musical Grease and later Xanadu, died today at her Southern California ranch, according to her official Facebook page. She was 73.
No cause of death was given, but Newton-John had been diagnosed with breast cancer in 1992. She later recovered, but the cancer recurred in 2013 and had metastasized to her lower back within four years. She long had been an activist against the disease.

A UK native who was raised in Australia, Newton-John began her career as a country singer but quickly crossed over to pop with the late-1973 hit “Let Me Be There.” It was the first of 15 Top 10 U.S. singles, including five No. 1s: “I Honestly Love You,” “Have You Never Been Mellow,” “You’re the One That I Want”, “Magic” (from the 1980 film Xanadu) and her biggest smash, “Physical.” The latter topped the Billboard Hot 100 for 10 weeks and was the No. 1 single of 1981. It also spurred a physical-fitness craze, with its music video featuring Newton-John — in a period-defining outfit that included a leotard and headband — cavorting among hardbody models and chunky schlubs just trying to work off a few dozen extra pounds. Watch it below.
Newton-John won four Grammy Awards among a dozen nominations during her career: “Let Me Be There” took Best Country Performance, Female, in 1974; “I Honestly Love You” won Record of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Performance, Female, the following year; and “Heart Attack” took Video of the Year in 1983. She also has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
.
She is best known to movie fans as the “Sandra Dee”-esque Sandy in Grease, the 1978 smash that remains among the top-grossing movie musicals of all time. Starring opposite Travolta in the Broadway adaptation, Newton-John sang the film’s country-flecked ballad “Hopelessly Devoted to You” and also duetted with Travolta and the company on “Summer Nights.” Both of those singles also made the U.S. Top 10. The film’s soundtrack spent 12 nonconsecutive weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and has sold more than 8 million copies in the U.S. alone. It also spawned a No. 1 hit with Frankie Valli’s title track.

Olivia Newton-John, and John Travolta in ‘Grease,’ 1978
Grease was a sensation with it premiered in June 1978. With school scenes shot at Venice High and Marshall High in Los Angeles, it combined the era’s 1950s nostalgia with the burgeoning disco movement and made film stars of Newton-John and Travolta. They played star-crossed polar-opposite lovers who become the king and queen of Rydell High School, with Newton-John’s Sandy Dumbrowski getting an extreme makeover from the prim, ponytailed new girl at school into a leather-clad stunner near the end.
Grease was added to the Library of Congress’ National Film Registry in 2020.
The film also helped fuel Newton-John’s stellar music career. Along with “Physical” and “Magic,” she also had post-Grease Top 10 hits with the disco-flecked “A Little More Love,” “Make a Move on Me,” “Heart Attack,” “Twist of Fate” and the title track from follow-up film, “Xanadu.” She had five Top 10 hits on the Billboard Hot Country Singles chart as well.

Released by Universal in August 1980, Xanadu coat-tailed the late-’70s roller disco craze, with Newton-John starring as Kira, a mysterious woman who falls in love with a struggling freelance artist (Michael Beck) living in Los Angeles. Despite co-starring Gene Kelly, the film was not a commercial hit — the skating fad had ebbed by the time it came out — but its soundtrack reached No. 4 on the Billboard 200 and went on to go double platinum. It also features Electric Light Orchestra and the Tubes.

Many of Newton-John’s solo albums also were hot sellers in the 1970s and early ’80s, with If You Love Me, Let Me Know topping the Billboard 200 in October 1974 and follow-up Have You Never Been Mellow doing the same just five months later. Two others made the U.S. Top 10: Totally Hot (1978) and Physical (1981).
Born on September 26, 1948, in Cambridge, England, Newton-John moved with her family to Melbourne, Australia, when she was a child. She began in music with a teenage pop group before winning an Australian TV talent show. She made her first single, “Till You Say You’ll Be Mine” in 1966 and toured English clubs as part of the duo Pat & Olivia with Pat Carroll. She later returned Down Under to continue her music career.
Newton-John is survived by her husband, John Easterling; daughter Chloe Lattanzi; her sister, Sarah Newton-John; her brother, Toby Newton-John; and many nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any donations be made in her memory at ONJfoundation.org.

Exactly one year after suffering a heart attack on the set of Better Call Saul, Bob Odenkirk took to social media Tuesday night to offer a “Thank You to you, whoever you are” for the “wave of goodwill and warmth towards me” after the event.
The actor later described the incident to the New York Times.
“We were shooting a scene, we’d been shooting all day, and luckily I didn’t go back to my trailer,” Okenkirk said. After shooting the scene for the AMC series, the actor stayed on-set to ride a workout bike “and I just went down.” He adds, “Rhea said I started turning bluish-gray right away.” It took three hits from an automated defibrillator to get his heart beating again.
The unrelentingly modest Odenkirk said Tuesday of the outpouring of affection he received, “I will forever feel unworthy of it. I will also always be...

TollywoodGoing by past records, it seems to be certain that Trivikram Srinivas and Jr Ntr are all set to come up with a big hit.Digital NativeDigital NativeThere have been several reports about the Tollywood star Jr Ntr reconsidering his decision on the Trivikram directorial he had agreed upon some month ago after the box office disaster of his latest release Agnyaathavasi starring Pawan Kalyan in the lead. But the latest reports suggest otherwise. Yes, the buzz is now loud and clear that Jr Ntr is all geared up to star in Trivikram’s film and that it will go on to the floors later next month. Sources in the tinsel town say that Jr Ntr’s success sentiment is the key factor for this. Going by the past records, all the smash hits starring Jr Ntr have been directed by flop directors. For example, after the colossal failure of Heart Attack, director Puri Jagannath got to direct Temper with Jr Ntr and the film turned out to be a blockbuster hit. And then came Nanna Ku Prematho, which was directed by Sukumar, when his previous release Nenokkadine was a major flop. Further, this Jai Lava Kusa was directed by Bobby who had delivered the flop movie Sardar Gabbar Singh. Going by all these past records, it seems to be certain that Trivikram Srinivas and Jr Ntr are all set to come up with a big hit. The project, which will mark their first association in the tinsel town, was first announced several months ago. The title, cast, crew and other details of it would be revealed shortly. Currently, director Trivikram Srinivas is busy with the prep work, say sources. Meanwhile, Jr Ntr, who puts his heart and soul into every project that he does, is leaving no stone unturned to get into the skin of the character in the film. (Content provided by Digital Native)...

Chennai, March 12: Actress Adah Sharma, who made her cinematic debut with Vikram Bhatt-directed "1920" and had also recently starred in Telugu romantic-drama "Heart Attack", says the lines between Hindi and southern cinema are blurring.
"The fact that so many south Indian movies are being remade in Hindi and vice versa is proof to the fact that all industries are respected and treated equally. I feel the lines between the industries are merging with actors, technicians and directors from one industry working in the other," Adah told Ians in a telephonic interview.
Adah's Telugu debut "Heart Attack" was directed by Puri.
