Quotes

  • Richard Castle : You know, there's a good argument for keeping the list *really* small. Just immediate family.

Kate Beckett : This argument doesn't have something to do with a certain amusement park ride, does it?

Richard Castle : I'm being serious. Getting married is an intimate act. And our ceremony should reflect that intimacy. And that way, we could all fit into one car. Ryan! How do you feel about roller coasters?

Kevin Ryan : Ooh, they make me nauseous. Why?

    Kate Beckett : No reason.

  • [first lines]

Richard Castle : What if we got married on the Cyclone?

Kate Beckett : The roller coaster at Coney Island?

Richard Castle : Come on, how much fun would that be? And talk about an appropriate, if not slightly on-the-nose, metaphor. A bride and groom together, side-by-side, as they go through the ups and downs, the twists and turns, and the loop-de-loops of life.

Kate Beckett : Castle, I love you, but I will not marry you on a ride, or up in space, or on a slide.

Richard Castle : I bet Dr. Seuss got married somewhere fun.

Kate Beckett : Yes, his wife's living room.

  • Kate Beckett : [having met Captain Gates' sister]  U.S. Attorney for the Southern District. That's a really big deal.

Richard Castle : Why hasn't Gates ever mentioned her before?

Kate Beckett : I don't know, but there was definitely a subtle chill between the two of them.

Richard Castle : A subtle chill? More like a polar vortex. I'm guessing something happened between them in the past. Something deeply personal that Gates does not want us to know about. I'll give you a dollar if you ask her.

    Kate Beckett : No way.

Richard Castle : Come on, aren't you curious?

Kate Beckett : Yeah, but I like my job too much.

  • Richard Castle : This is a long way from Wall Street.

Kate Beckett : This doesn't make any sense. If Peter was into drugs, he had enough money to get them from downtown. Why would he risk getting them from someone that he knew was dangerous?

Richard Castle : There it is. El Baile Club.

Kate Beckett : Yeah, unofficial headquarters of Los Caballeros. Stick close. If Hector's as dangerous as advertised, things might get a little hairy.

Richard Castle : "Hairy" is my middle name.

    [pause]

Richard Castle : That sounded a lot better in my head.

[they enter the club and see people salsa dancing]

Richard Castle : Are you sure this is the right place? Those guys don't look very dangerous.

Kate Beckett : What about those guys?

Richard Castle : Ah, you mean the heavily armed ones.

  • [trying to shorten their wedding guest list]

Kate Beckett : Well, then why don't we just take a minute and write down the names of all the people that absolutely, *positively* have to be there, no matter what, to make us happy?

    Richard Castle : One minute?

    Kate Beckett : Yeah.

Richard Castle : It's not much time. What if we forget someone?

Kate Beckett : Then they shouldn't have been invited in the first place.

Richard Castle : Let's do it.

    Kate Beckett : Okay.

[Beckett hands him a legal pad]

Richard Castle : All right... Are you ready?

    Kate Beckett : Yep.

Richard Castle : [looking at his watch]  One minute. And, go.

[they begin writing and after a moment both stop]

Kate Beckett : You stopped writing.

Richard Castle : So did you.

[showing each other their list, they see the only word they've written is "You"]

  • Captain Victoria Gates : A wire?

Kate Beckett : Yes, sir. We believe our killer removed it from the victim's body after shooting him.

Captain Victoria Gates : Do we know who he was wearing a wire for?

Kate Beckett : Well, we're checking with other branches of law enforcement right now.

Captain Victoria Gates : What about this woman who called in the murder? Have you been able to identify her?

Kate Beckett : You know, no one in Cordero's life seems to know who she is, and we have no idea where to find her.

[while Beckett is talking, Castle sees the woman enter the precinct]

Richard Castle : I... think she just found us.

Captain Victoria Gates : Oh, Lord. I'd say your case just got a lot more complicated.

Kate Beckett : What is it, sir?

Captain Victoria Gates : They're from the U.S. Attorney's Office.

Richard Castle : You know them?

Captain Victoria Gates : Uh, not the woman from the photo, but the woman with her is Elizabeth Weston, the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District... She also happens to be my sister.

  • Richard Castle : Good news. I cross-referenced my mother's list with my list. We have three names in common.

Kate Beckett : Wow, three names. That's great. That takes us from what, 585 to 582? There's gotta be a better way to cut this down. Ryan, you guys kept your wedding small. What was it, like a hundred people?

Kevin Ryan : Yeah. That's all we could afford.

Richard Castle : How did you... contain the list?

Kevin Ryan : I have a lot of relatives who hate me now.

  • Richard Castle : You know, I was thinking about Gates' sister, and it got me wondering. Do you have any family I don't know about?

Kate Beckett : [laughs]  I do- I don't think so.

Richard Castle : Good. Because this "intimate" wedding of ours...

Kate Beckett : Oh, no. You, too?

Richard Castle : How bad is yours?

Kate Beckett : I've got over a hundred.

Richard Castle : I'm at three hundred over that.

    Kate Beckett : Four hundred?

Richard Castle : Well, to be fair, I am world famous... ish. I mean, look, it's a first draft. It just needs some editing. Brutal, ruthless editing.

Kate Beckett : Castle, Michael Connelly? You haven't seen him in over a year. And do you not remember what he wrote about your last book? No. I think we got our first edit.

Richard Castle : Uh, well, I have to invite Connelly, because if he finds out that Jonathan Kellerman made the cut... And I have to invite Kellerman, because I have to invite Wes Craven and Stephen King.

Kate Beckett : Yeah, but we've got to start somewhere.

Richard Castle : Well, I think I know where. Aunt Theresa? Really? After what she posted about me on Facebook?

Kate Beckett : She took it down.

  • Kate Beckett : Sir, uh... you okay?

Captain Victoria Gates : Uh... just trying to figure out how to tell my sister her case is compromised without her blaming me.

Kate Beckett : Why would she blame you? I mean, you're just doing your job.

    Captain Victoria Gates : There's a history.

    Kate Beckett : Mmm.

Captain Victoria Gates : 1998. I had just been made head of Internal Affairs. Elizabeth was in the DA's Office. We called ourselves the dynamic duo. At the time, Elizabeth was closing in on a heroin ring in East New York and they had an undercover inside. His testimony was key to the case, but...

Kate Beckett : He was dirty?

Captain Victoria Gates : He'd skimmed a few eight balls off the very bust Elizabeth was building her case around. When my office caught him reselling it, she came to me, begged me not to file charges. Asked me to think of the greater good... I did my job that day, too... Hasn't been the same between us since.

  • Kate Beckett : Who found the body?

Kevin Ryan : Well, that's an interesting question. At 10:03 p.m, a woman made a 911 call from a payphone down the block, but she refused to leave her name.

Richard Castle : A payphone down the block? But how would she know he was dead, unless...

Kate Beckett : Unless she was in the apartment.

Lanie Parish : Well, lividity places the time of death between 8 and 10, so if the 911 call came in at 10:03...

Kate Beckett : She could be our killer.

  • Kate Beckett : Excuse me, Mr. Burman. Detective Beckett. Could we have a word, please?

Jamie Burman : I told you SEC pricks to talk to my lawyer.

Kate Beckett : I'm not SEC. I'm NYPD. Homicide.

  • Lanie Parish : Still no indication of defensive wounds, but I did find this when I checked his nails for DNA.

[she hands Beckett a magnifying glass and shows her and Castle the victim's hand]

    Richard Castle : Numbers. 7-2-3-5-9-8?

Lanie Parish : He wrote it in pen. I'd say four or five days ago. But *that's* not why I called you. Look at this.

    [pulls back sheet on victim]

Lanie Parish : On his chest, next to the Y incision.

[Beckett and Castle look but don't see anything]

Kate Beckett : Look at what?

Lanie Parish : It's subtle. So subtle I almost missed it. But I think it explains why his shirt was ripped open. You see this grainy material?

    Kate Beckett : Yeah.

Lanie Parish : It's adhesive residue. In fact, there's a residue pattern from his belly to his chest.

    Kate Beckett : Adhesive?

Lanie Parish : Mm-hmm. Looking at the pattern, I'd say your Wall Street wolf was wearing a wire.

  • Javier Esposito : Yo, I talked to the manager at Suisse Federal. He confirmed that a bank account with those numbers exists, but he refused to give out any information on it.

Captain Victoria Gates : Did he at least acknowledge it was Peter Cordero's account?

Javier Esposito : He couldn't, because he didn't know himself. It's a numbered account, set up for privacy. So the only way anyone can access it is with a password.

Kate Beckett : So there's no way to know what Cordero was doing?

    Javier Esposito : No.

    Richard Castle : Unless...

[points to the photo of the victim's hand]

Richard Castle : Six digits... Seems kind of password-y to me.

[a few moments later at a computer]

Kate Beckett : Okay, read it to me.

    Richard Castle : 7-2-3-5-9-8.

    Kate Beckett : Come on.

    [she's allowed access]

Richard Castle : We're in! Castle, you've done it again.

  • [last lines]

Richard Castle : Of course, I'm gonna have to invite my mother. And Alexis.

Kate Beckett : Yeah, and my dad and Aunt Theresa.

Richard Castle : Right... Espo and Ryan, who'll bring Jenny.

    Kate Beckett : Mm-hmm. Lanie.

Richard Castle : Lanie... I'm gonna have to invite the poker group.

    Kate Beckett : Yeah. Maddie.

    Richard Castle : Gates.

Kate Beckett : Ooh, and Gates' family.
