This is the story of a mixed Italian(male)/Chilean(female) couple living in the Italian seaside with their son. The mother feels oppressed with her life and a dying relationship and decides to go back to Chile bringing her son with her despite the father's disapproval. The father decides then to pause with his life/career and look for them in a totally unknown - for him - country to bring his son back. The photography is very nice but the writing lacks depth in the first half of the movie: the characters mostly behave illogically in front of the core pieces of the drama missing the obvious actions/questions and pushing on a 90% emotional gear. This left me a little detached and bored. Despite this aura of disbelief surrounding the actions of the protagonists (something that might well accomplish different results relative to each viewer's perception) the movie is well acted and very actual. The freedom/empowerment older generations didn't have kept their society (and families) together. Today, as we are more capable and free to listen to our hearts and to see alternatives to our present, we can deal with the difficulties of a life we decided to live without the capacity of understanding/forecasting the consequences of our choices. But at what cost? The decisions we took carry responsibilities - a career, a son, a house, a family in this case. Can we be asked to totally sacrifice ourselves for our misjudgments? Should we give up everything to keep our naive promises and live like society expects us to? Can laws and rights help resolve these conflicts? Wisely, the writer/director decided to leave the viewer with countless questions and no easy answers.

When we raise the justice flag for equal pay...

Where is the justice flag between father and mother in front of a judge? This movie is a must watch to all activists concerned with the state of gender relations today.
