A bit like the DePalma film "Blow Out" and the TV show "Archer"!

"Rogue Agent" (also known as "Newcomer") is a nice little spy film. While it has a few rough spots, it's original and worth your time. It also shows that you don't need huge budgets, sets and star- studded casts to have a decent picture.

The film begins with the recruiting of Alex (James Floyd) by some spy for hire agency. These mercenary agents value him, apparently, because Alex has an Obsessive Compulsive Personality. Because of this, he has an overwhelming need to work out details and memorize things. But despite his ability to remember, his first assignment, in Serbia, goes haywire and the four agents working with him are all killed...and Alex is blamed. The agency doesn't believe his excuses and begin torturing the young man to find out what they think is the truth...and this portion of the film is rather brutal. Fortunately for him, he's able to escape and Alex spends the rest of the film using his only clue to try to reconstruct the killings. What is this? An audio recording of the murders...and Alex refuses to give up until he's sorted out all clues.

The film has a few things which didn't quite work for me. Alex is assisted by a young women during much of the film...yet there seemed to be no reason for her to be helping him. Additionally, they have sex (you don't really see much) but considering they barely know each other and danger is all around them, this simply makes no sense at all. I wouldn't have included her character or I would have fleshed her out more for the story. But what I am certain about is that the good easily outweighs the bad. The plot, which is a bit similar to the De Palma film, "Blow Out", still is quite original and the notion of an assignment going bad and the lone agent trying to piece together all the audio clues is quite intriguing. Additionally, James Floyd is good in this role as the obsessed agent...and is helped along by a nice performance by Anthony LaPaglia as his boss. The location shooting in Serbia and Montenegro certainly also helped to give the film a nice look of authenticity and the brutal fight scenes near the end are nicely handled. Not at all like a James Bond film, in some ways this one plays out a bit more like the TV cartoon "Archer" minus all the comedy and bizarreness! Worth your time and a film that seems to get better as it progresses.

Eyes and Ears

Warning: Spoilers
Alex (James Floyd) a street orphan is recruited by Daniel (Anthony LaPaglia) to perform covert operations unofficially contracted by the CIA in Serbia. When a group of operatives are killed, Alex is blamed by his own company and he attempts to solve the crime by restructuring it by listening to a recording.

The film is a slight new concept. Unfortunately the characters are dry as is the dialogue. The scenes dragged on.

Guide: F-word. sex. No nudity

What a dumb, lame and clueless crap
MovieIQTest26 July 2016
I can't believe this lame, clueless dumb movie could get 7.1 stars rating. We didn't see how this young guy was qualified for a member of a clueless group of agents. He was qualified just by his dumb clueless persistence in a futile assembly of jigsaw puzzle, just mindlessly lost himself trying to figure out how to make it come together. A guy with limited intelligence would have already realized that jigsaw puzzle could not match and patch together long time ago. So just by his stupid persistence, he was qualified for being one of the secret agents? Give me a break, will you? Then they did a clueless mission in Cerbia, and by his naive stupidity and failed to follow instructions, two agents were killed.

Then the weirdest thing happened and he was tortured, again, clueless as we the viewers and himself. The torturer snapped and cut open his left arm, and then cut and disintegrated two tendons and nerves of his two fingers inside his left lower arm. For what? And why they wanted to torture him to get answer instead of just killed him? Again, so God-awful clueless.

Then this stupid and stubborn young guy just tried to put another another clueless jigsaw puzzle together by himself without any resource. His severe injured left hand seemed miraculously healed, I was so amazed to see that an hand suffered so much damages yet it seemed this guy got no pain at all. I was so clueless and just couldn't help but gave up this clueless viewing experience.

It reminded me "Ronin": so many people involved and tried to get that clueless attache suitcase, yet from the very beginning to the very end, that mysterious attache suitcase never had been logically explained what's in it.

This so-called "Rogue Agent" is a torture to watch like pain in the arse, you felt the pain, but you just couldn't touch or reach it, because it's so clueless to allow you to pin point the location where the pain coming from.

Take your chances with this lackluster, unoriginal, vague flick if you dare....

Not a great movie according to most the reviews. It was a Bourne reject to me that went straight to the dollar dvd bin. I say watch it yourself to get your own subjective opinion on it. View it for free on Primewire or whatever movie link site floats your ship. Certainly not worth the ten to twenty dollars you could be using to buy popcorn and candy viewing this at home on your personal computer rather than at the rip off movie theaters. Enjoy!!!

Gave this film a chance - that it did not deserve. Poor plot, actors weak, low budget, pretty much complete waste of my time. Nothing against Serbia/Yugoslavia. The producers/writers of this film should return to their day job.
