The film was shot on a BlackMagic Cinema Camera and a Canon 5D Mark III.
The idea for Pretty Little Girls came to writer and director Zac Coleman when he was humming a made up tune in 2010. His original idea was to write a love song that would give the film's look an "indie film" appearance, while having underlying "horror elements." He later took this idea and wrote Pretty Little Girls in 2013.
Zac Coleman first met Lindsay Rathert, Kathiamarice Lopez, and Christopher Waldron while auditioning them for roles in When The Lights Go Out by Craig Deering. Though the roles didn't work out for them, he later cast them in Pretty Little Girls.
The opening scene was choreographed by Dylan Noe. Before finalizing casting, Zac Coleman had no idea that Lindsay Rathert, Mouzam Makkar, Kathiamarice Lopez, and Shariba Rivers all had prior dance backgrounds.
Both Mouzam Makkar and Kathiamarice Lopez didn't know how to properly smoke cigarettes in their scenes despite their characters persistent mentioning of marijuana.
