Notarile and Lombardi keep delivering
Horst_In_Translation11 November 2015
Warning: Spoilers
"Krueger: The Slasher from Elm Street" is a 9-minute short film from last year and another addition to the prolific Freddy Krueger careers of the 2 guys I mentioned in the title. And the formula hasn't gotten stale yet. It's all about Freddy Krueger family guy in this one. We see him talk to his daughter about a magic show and then, near the end, we hear him comfort 2 parents who are worried because their son is missing. You can probably imagine what happened to him. The ending looked like there is more in store in the future and I'm curious about it. I also would not mind seeing Lombardi in a full feature, he is perfect for the part in my opinion. These short films do not necessarily score through great or new story lines, but just about how atmospheric and in-your-face they are. And there is almost some dark comedy to Krueger's innocent behavior. The title certainly could have been chosen better, but that is a problem with almost all of Notarile's takes on Krueger. Apart from that, good job and I recommend the watch.

HELLSING'S HELLHOLE - Krueger Series (Review)
thefiendshow22 April 2014
This review will be completely focused on the KRUEGER series as a whole.

I am a Freddy Krueger fan, always have been, always will be. The first film always being my favorite, but still liked the sequels....except for that poor excuse of a turd remake that Michael Bay's Platinum Dunes released a few years ago, but I'll get to that in a minute.

Do you remember a time when every year from 84 - 91, us Nightmare fans had a new Freddy Krueger film released? Those were great times. But then after, Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare, was released....the monster that we all loved was gone ( I always thought that it was funny that a movie villain who was in fact a child killing pedophile was embraced & loved worldwide by a legion of child fans.) Sure, he sort of came back in Wes Craven's New Nightmare, which in itself was a great film, but it just wasn't the same. And sure, we got the ultimate movie killer showdown with Freddy VS. Jason....but "We" wanted more. Freddy VS. Jason would be the last time that we would see our beloved Freddy Krueger played by Robert Englund. It had finally come time for Mr. Englund to hang up the glove.

It seemed that we would never have another Nightmare On Elm Street. Then came word that Michael Bay's Platinum Dunes had bought the rights to remake A Nightmare On Elm Street....after having seen the company's previous remakes, I was very unhappy with the idea of them destroying another franchise....but there was a little ray of hope that shined through. It was announced that Jackie Earle Haley would be donning the glove, the famous sweater, and the trademark fedora. Mind you, this was around the time that Watchmen had been released and I was a fan of his portrayal of Rorschach...which was brutal. I waited in anticipation.

Finally the day had come....Platinum Dunes' A Nightmare On Elm Street was released and I was one of the first in line, knowing that somehow little Bad News Bears Jackie Earle Haley would be a great Freddy Krueger. Boy, was I wrong. 2 hours later, I stormed out of the theater and was completely heartbroken that Platinum Dunes had just completely crapped all over my childhood. I felt raped.

I finally gave into the thought that Freddy Krueger was finally gone. That is until I stumbled across a fan mini film on youtube. It was called Krueger: A Tale From Elm Street. I said, "What the hell, let's check it out." My love of Freddy was instantly restored. This was amazing. Here is a fan film that not only was a prequel to the original film, but completely took Freddy back to his dark roots. He wasn't the funny tagline spewing comedian that he became in the sequels....he was pure evil again and I was on cloud 9.

Let's not forget to mention Roberto Lombardi's portrayal of Freddy Krueger.....I admit, I was one of those guys that said "If it's not Englund, I don't care.", but that instantly changed. I was not only impressed, I was drop jawed. Lombardi was phenomenal & had that evil Robert Englund charm in the way he played Krueger. The overall flow of the story was so great. I felt like that 3 year old little kid seeing A Nightmare On Elm Street for first time all over again.

After seeing that short, I watched the credits...Written & Directed by Chris. R. Notarile....instantly I jumped on facebook and found his page. I thanked him and told him to please keep making these videos & how much I enjoyed the mini film. Soon after, I found another video...KRUEGER: Another Tale From Elm Street....at that moment it became clear that Freddy was back and being done right.

2 more mini films in the series have come since...."A Walk Though Elm Street" & "The Slasher Of Elm Street".....and I am still hooked & begging for more. I think that if Mr. Notarile is given the chance to make a complete prequel film...it would be one of the highest regarded films in a Nightmare fans collection. The Notarile & Lombardi team up is just the stuff that great filmmaking is made of, much like Burton & Depp....they just work so well together.

I hope that the KRUEGER series continues and gets more attention from fans & film companies. These short films are that stuff that Nightmares are made of.

My Hellsing Review Rating is: 2 Devil Horns Up x10!

So pull up a seat, turn off the lights, and Welcome To Prime Time, Bitch!... In the words of Kincaid from A Nightmare on Elm Street 4.... "FREDDY'S BACK! FREDDY'S BACK! FREDDY'S BACK! FREDDY'S BACK!"

Things are starting to get interesting...
Fernando-Rodrigues23 January 2021
Warning: Spoilers
A bit better than the first episode, but yet weak. I liked the drama element (especially when the missing boy mom tells Fred to watch for his kid) -also, it's interesting to know he has a kid and is a child murderer! like, we already knew that by the 6th film of the franchise, but here it's even more interesting because we're having an approach of how he kept his double life: father/murderer-.

A new Vision of FREDDY KRUEGER
BrandonsNDP1 August 2014
What a great web-series so far! The story is fantastic in of itself. The acting is very superb. Roberto Lombardi has that look a feel of a dark and creepy Freddy Krueger that Robert England had back than. The setting and theme of this and the whole web-series have a great setup for something final. I hope this web-series continues to a feature if possible. I am really not a big fan of Freddy and his back story is a very big talking point in today's society, but this version of Freddy has taken it to the high extreme to show how he became sadistic and creepy. The acting for all actors/actresses is very good in this story. The blocking and staging for this short fan film is one of the best that Chris Notarile has done so far. He directs his actors/actresses the right way and its very fluid with motion and emotion that flows freely. The ADR for each character is somewhat on point but is a little off by a few milliseconds but still is pretty good without dialog, I.E movement, staging and blocking with Freddy and Mikey in the beginning. With only a few draw backs, Krueger: The Slasher from Elm Street is a piece of fan-film cinema that a fan of the Freddy Iconic Legend should definitely watch to get a great back story without watching the Freddy movies.

The creepiness factor is back with Freddy
fauxphofoe428 April 2014
When I was in the 4th grade, A Nightmare on Elm Street part 2 was released. My best friend at the time told me it was stupid so I didn't go see it. It wasn't until the fourth installment came out that I finally went to see a Freddy movie. Boy was my friend wrong! Why had I listened to him? I fell in love with it and immediately went out and rented the first three on VHS. Over the years, I watched as each new installment came out with a roller coaster ride of varying results. Then the franchise went away.

I stumbled upon these fan-made movies by Blinky Productions and immediately my heart leaped! Freddy is back in a major way. Roberto Lombardi is the perfect Freddy Krueger portrayal. If it wasn't going to be Mr. Englund, it could only be Roberto. He has that creepiness factor that I missed when that remake was put out. The way he stands, walks, talks, tilts his head...everything drips evil. That is the way Freddy should be! I can't wait to see if Chris R. Notarile will make a full- length prequel to the series, but if he does, it will completely revitalize the series.

KRUEGER: The Slasher From Elm Street – They Went There
iuchewie24 April 2014
Warning: Spoilers
We return to Springwood today for another jaunt down Elm Street. Director Chris R. Notarile has released the 4th installment in his KRUEGER series known as Krueger: The Slasher From Elm Street. Previous entries in the series include Krueger: A Tale From Elm Street, Krueger: Another Tale From Elm Street and Krueger: A Walk Through Elm Street.

SPOILER ALERT: This review WILL talk openly about the plot of this short film. If you've not watched it yet, check it out and then come on back.

Krueger: The Slasher From Elm Street was JUST released and as of this writing doesn't have a description listed yet on it's official IMDb page. That being said, it picks up right where A Walk Through Elm Street left off after Fred had snagged Mikey.

I saw the following quote from director Chris R. Notarile on the film's Facebook page before watching:

"When making a movie and posting it online for people to see, its no surprise you may get a few dislikes here and there, accompanied by the occasional negative comment. Usually it's over something trivial and that never bothers me. But with this series, specifically part 4, I know that people's personal limits will be pushed when viewing and for the first time, but you can only beat around the bush so many times before it gets tiresome."

I was a little worried after reading this quote, but I dove right in… and I'm glad I did.

Plot & Thoughts

This one picks up right where the last film ended and we're even given some flashbacks of that last film. We see Fred (Roberto Lombardi) walking the streets and running his fingers across the wall the way Englund did. This is a Freddy cliché that's starting to get a little old in Notarile's flicks, but it's something that needs to be here to tie the character to the source material. We then cut to Mikey running away which was a tad bit confusing as we were just shown him being drugged which typically incapacitates someone for quite some time. I found myself asking, "How'd the kid get away?"

Mikey runs into a warehouse where a bunch of cars and trucks are parked and he's being pursued by Freddy… wearing is glove in broad daylight? I'll chalk this one up to this being Fred's private property but it was a head scratcher. We get some cat and mouse with Fred looking for Mikey who's hiding in a truck and as he looks Freddy once again drags his claw across the hood of a truck. As I said before, these Freddy clichés are getting a bit grating to me at least who's watched all of the flicks.

We get some great camera work here as we're shown Mikey in the foreground with Freddy popping up behind him out of focus. The chase is back on with Freddy catching up to Mikey and tackling him. He says, "Scream for me" and at the 3 minute mark plunges his claw presumably into the boy's stomach and we cut to black.

We're then introduced to Freddy's daughter (?) Katherine Krueger played by Danica Metzger who is cute... as... anything. I have to admit that I'd forgotten that Freddy had a daughter so I had to look up that piece of the back story. That said, it was a nice way to introduce the character into Notarile's Krueger-verse. Lombardi once again shines in the role of Freddy Krueger. I've gushed in previous reviews about how awesome Roberto is and how he embodies Krueger in a way that calls back beautifully to the Englund portrayal while not being overshadowed by it. Bravo once again sir.

Katherine and Freddy chat for a few minutes and we cut back to the Mikey storyline.

Oh... MY... GOD. They went there!!! After the cut, we're shown the claw going into the boy, him spitting up blood and Fred covered with blood. Honestly up to this point I wasn't really loving this entry... this scene changes everything. It's clear this is the scene Notarile was referencing in the quote above. I can't ever recall a child death being shown in the films and while hinted at in Notarile's work it's never been shown either. A big risk showing it here and for this fan it pays off BIG TIME.

We then cut to Fred and Katherine sitting in a diner having a bite to eat. Freddy overhears a mother crying about Mikey who's been missing since Sunday. After a brief discussion the mother says to Freddy, "Look after Katherine – don't let her go," to which Freddy replies, "I won't." Super creepy.

We end with a scene of Freddy walking the street at night. He sees a "Missing Child" flyer with Mikey's picture on it. He adjusts his fedora and continues to walk down Elm Street as we fade to black.

Recommendation

Once again, this won't be much for non NOES fans, but if you're a fan of the franchise I'd highly recommend it. This one builds on the previous films in the series in a big way so I'd highly recommend watching those as well. Run time is just shy of 9 minutes (including credits) but once again Notarile packs it in and in this installment he really goes for the gore which was a nice twist. The kill scene in here completely sets it apart from the other films in the series and if Notarile chooses to step back from the Elm Street universe would provide a nice cap on the series. Give it a watch. You'll be glad you did. You can find Blinky Productions on the web at www.blinky-productions.com as well as on the film's Facebook fan page. Tell them ScareTissue sent you!

I'd really love to see Netflix pick this up...
mamawolfalberico17 October 2018
I love the direction that was went with this. It would be seriously so amazing to see this as an actual full series on everything that led up to before Freddy started killing kids in their dreams. It would be really interesting to see the parents finding out, finding the evidence, the detective work, the court case be dragged on, etc.

The actor who plays Freddy really embodies everything that he is. In my opinion, I don't see anyone who can play him better besides Robert Englund himself.
