A requiem for a Nation!
anagamin14 July 2014
"Red carpet" is the story of a middle-aged naive and obscure Iranian artist who goes to Cannes Film Festival in following of his dreams. The dream of meeting the great directors of cinema such as Steven Spielberg and Woody Allen with the high hopes of becoming a professional actor. In his journey to France he gets into some troubles and he finds France a brand new country for himself. The movie Also tries to show the inappropriate habits and traditions of Iranian society by comparing those to the French ones. Finally the story ends with this cliché proverb "Home sweet Home" and nowhere is like home. In the final scene, the miserable and lone artist of our story sleeps in his country flag which shows some kind of serenity and pure peacefulness for the poor man. I guess the only forte of this movie is its soundtrack which gives the audience a good sense of French streets. Anyhow I give a 5 out of 10 to the "Red Carpet" and it was absolutely an average Joe.

Threadbare

Absolutely threadbare story about an wannabe Iranian actor/writer visiting Cannes 2013. Intercut with some moments from Scorsese films and various moments at the festival.

There are some funny moments with culture clashes but most of it is just pure embarrassment for everyone involved, and the director didn't quite know how to finish it off properly.
