Lauren gets developed and we learn Karma might be as confused as Shane thinks she is.
Amari-Sali1 June 2014
Warning: Spoilers
To my great surprise, Lauren has been further developed as a character and it is all thanks to Shane. Who, seemingly, is the catalyst for most of what happens on this show. In fact, as you watch both Liam and Amy seek his advice, you realize that while Michael Willett may not have top billing, pretty much he is the unofficial star. Naturally in sequins.

Topic 1: 3D Lauren – Lauren and Shane

Like an onion, we watch as Lauren with each passing episode is revealed to have layer after layer to her persona. The former would-be villain has now shown herself to be someone who wanted a maternal figure, to look and feel sexy, and now shows that while she is religious, any bigotry we may think she possesses is really just a cheap tactic at upsetting Shane. As seen when we meet her friend Pablo, her gay dance partner.

But, before we talk about Pablo's role in the episode, there is a need for some background. Part of Lauren's deal to get the students behind Skwerkle was to change the yoga studio into a dance studio so she could practice, hence leading to the appearance of Pable for there is a competition coming up. Unfortunately for Lauren, though an opportunity for Shane, Pablo injured himself volunteering with his church. This forces Lauren to choose Shane for a temporary dance partner, and in the process of learning the moves, Shane gets his flirt on with Pablo, much to the annoyance of Lauren.

We learn though, as Lauren and Shane spend time together, as much as Lauren maybe cruel to her two minions at the school, this isn't to say she is some wannabe Queen Bee type. If anything, consider Lauren the type who can read people and get what she needs out of them. Now, sometimes, like with her minions, all she can get out of them is company. But, as you watch her with Pablo, and even Shane, you realize the reason why she treats her minions like she does is because they let her, and unless someone challenges Lauren, her more human side doesn't show and she doesn't let people in. And with the introduction of Pablo, as well as what we saw between Lauren and Amy's mom, you can see she can be very protective and nurturing when she wants to be.

For example, Lauren knows Pablo is a romantic and seems to not want Shane to date him for she fears he would break Pablo's heart. So, Shane backs off. Then, to further develop her, they show her analytic skills with her noting how much she and Shane aren't that different and how, perhaps, this is what leads to their frequent clashing. This, naturally, Shane rejects the idea of, but as Lauren breaks it down for him, he realizes she is right. After all, look at how Shane treats Amy. She basically is this amusing little experiment for Shane, and while he may not have the shrill of Lauren, or seem as conniving, you can see similarities.

Topic 2: Hello? Shane?! – Amy & Liam

With Amy OK'ing the threesome, now comes the anxiety. For Amy, it deals with Shane talking about how this whole threesome can help prove his point that Karma maybe bisexual, and that she likely will drop hints that Amy does stand a chance. For Liam though, seemingly he did not believe Karma when she blurted out having a threesome, and now that the opportunity is real, he is sort of freaking out. Luckily for him though, and I mean that with sarcasm, Lauren's boyfriend and an unnamed guy help him prep for the threesome. Something which doesn't help Liam's anxiety at all, but does set something up which maybe in Amy's favor.

Topic 3: The Complications of a Threesome – Amy, Karma and Liam

In preparation for the threesome, Karma and Amy have a dress rehearsal and in this Karma hints that she is just using Amy to get the engine revving and then she wants her to leave so she can have Liam to herself. But, Amy decides not to give up so easily. In fact, that aggressive nature she had when she was at the bar a few episodes back, she uses that on Karma and when she takes control of their faux relationship it leaves Karma a bit stunned. Amy being confidant, dressed in this sexy little outfit, and then their kiss, needless to say Karma was left confused. Especially when, due to the aforementioned advice given by Lauren's boyfriend and his friend, Liam kissing Amy. This makes an already awkward situation bad and makes it so Karma decides she can't go through with the threesome.

Leaving me to wonder, if Amy wasn't so timid, and was a bit more aggressive with her relationship with Karma, maybe she may have the relationship she wants? Since, seemingly, Amy really taking the situation seriously definitely flipped some type of switch on in Karma's head to the point that she looked like Amy did after their first kiss. And I don't know about you, but with Amy probably only second to Shane when it comes to this show, I do find myself more so rooting for her happiness than Liam's.

Things To Note

The topic 2 title deals with both Liam and Amy trying to call Shane for advice and not getting him because he was with Lauren and Pablo.
