"Remember the Croquembouche" takes a strong focus on the important relationships between characters. Be it Amy and Karma's; Liam and Shane's; or the one Lauren is trying to have with Amy's mom Farrah; the episodes seems to strip away a lot of the silliness which usually happens when the characters are at school so we can watch them all develop a bit more. Which is not to say there aren't some odd moments, like two twins who are like Jaime and Cersei, as well as a food fight, but at the heart of the episode are these relationships which help one, or both participants, in ways which hopefully we'll continue to see.

Topic 1: Off to the Bar – Shane & Liam

After Shane and Karma almost hooking up, but just making out a bit, Liam is looking to go on a sex cleanse to take Karma off his mind. So, in order to get Shane to happily join him, they go to a gay bar so Shane and Liam can both hunt. Shane will get his boys, and Liam will get the best friend, or in one case sister. Thing is, the situation turns out to be a bust for between either one striking out and the other doing well, or a situation where they had these twins who seem into incest, neither can find what they are looking for. Plus, the cops come into the bar and with both Shane and Liam being underage, Shane makes sure they get the hell out of there.

Leading to the two just walking and talking, with Liam admitting this whole hunting trip was because of Karma. Causing a bit of shock in Shane since he didn't think Karma and Liam was this far along. But, with all that Liam says, he realizes his best friend is in love with this girl and the only thing stopping him is his "integrity." Because Liam wouldn't take another guy's girl, so why would it be right to take Amy's? And with that said, Shane tells him to end it and he listens. But, with Karma seeing she has gotten Liam to fall in love with her, but still has Amy's feelings to worry about, she makes a last ditch effort to save everything.

Topic 2: The Croquembouche – Amy, Karma, and Lauren

Low and behold, they actually are trying to develop Lauren in some form! You see, for most of the episode we watch as this threesome deals with Amy's mom's upcoming wedding, of which Lauren has become an integral part of. She, over Amy, has became Farrah's maid of honor, which is weird since you'd think one of Farrah's friends would do that. What makes this bad though is Amy feels replaced to the point where she thinks Lauren is investing so much time and effort into her (Amy's) mom to spite her. However, even taking note this is only episode 5, if you look at the situation a bit deeper, you have to remember that while Amy has Karma, and seemingly doesn't need much more, what does Lauren have?

She is an outcast at school; a dimwit for a boyfriend; her only friends are minions, who idolize her; and doesn't seem to have a close relationship with her dad, or even mentions her own mother. And maybe I missed it, but perhaps her mom is dead and she saw Amy's as some sort of surrogate? Albeit, one which she originally hated, but once she realized that the two shared a lot of things, what else could a child do to show they value someone's relationship?

All of this Amy doesn't see, so Karma continuously tries to defuse their tension. But, it doesn't work in the long run. Amy's mom took Lauren, without her, to her favorite restaurant; Lauren buys a fancy gift for Amy's mom and gets a bigger reaction out of her; and then there is the Croquembouche. This strange structure which looks like a bunch of glazed munchkins stacked into a tower. Amy pulls from the bottom of the tower, out of spite, and destroys the dessert, thus leading to a food fight. One which forces Lauren to admit she has gotten close to Amy's mom and that she is really all she has now. Creating a sense of guilt in Amy.

But, through this all Karma stays by her side. She tries to emotionally be there as Lauren gets all the praise Amy never got; she tries to massage away Amy's stress as she, Amy and Lauren are stuck together as they get the Croquembouche; and when all is said and done, and they talk about their eventual weddings, she reassures Amy that what they have is going to last until they are old ladies, with Amy slyly trying throw in the idea of them marrying each other. But then she mentions how much her mom would love that, derailing us getting any hint how Karma would feel.

However, with all this said, there is that Liam cliffhanger. After the food fight, Karma is told she can't stay over. So, on her way home she finds Liam waiting for her, and while she plays him off like she knows he doesn't like her, and blah blah blah, he lets her know that the only thing keeping them apart is Amy. For while he tried to be cool with them having an open relationship, his integrity is keeping him from continuing their understanding. And he expresses he really wishes they could be together, causing Karma to realize he has fallen in love with her and she needs to save the relationship before he may be gone forever. So, to save the situation she brings up having a threesome.
