Originally was titled "The Visitors" but before ABC picked the show up to series they requested the title be changed due to the similarities in another show that aired on ABC called "V" which stands for visitors. When ABC picked the show up to series the title was announced as "The Whispers".
While uncredited, the series is based on the short story "Zero Hour" by Ray Bradbury which was first published in the Fall 1947 issue of "Planet Stories" and later collected in Bradbury's 1951 anthology "The Illustrated Man". Dawn Olmstead read the short story and brought it to Amblin TV which developed it with Soo Hugh.
Lily Rabe's first leading role in a television series.
Season 1 of "The Whispers" was up in the air for a long while. Not knowing if a season 2 would happen, the writers made an ending to season 1 that provides a conclusion, but leaves it open for another season if it were to happen. This show has since been cancelled.
Brianna Brown played Lena in the unaired pilot but subsequently exited the show due to what TVLine reported as creative reasons. She was replaced by Kristen Connolly.
