A strong guest cast, and a very visual episode.

I don't get the level of hate going on for this episode, personally I enjoyed it.

Great start, definitely a little different, nicely set up, well acted, looked great, of course it looked great, it's Death in Paradise.

Peter Davison's appearance here, I may be biased as a Dr Who fan, and suggest that he's the most well known face here, question is, as they sometimes do on the show, would he be the killer? Would they go for the big name......

Michelle Ryan is great here, a very good and energetic performance from her.

DI Goodman, even in 2020 I still miss Richard Poole so badly, Humphrey didn't have the greatest of starts, but he would get better, quite frankly they made him too much of an idiot here, but he was boosted by the awesome team.

Irritations with Goodman apart, I liked it. 7/10.

A Show finding its "legs"

Warning: Spoilers
I would agree with the general criticism here about this episode, that the killer was fairly obvious from almost the moment of the murder, even if we didn't know exactly why.

That said, I don't really watch shows like Death in Paradise, and enjoy them, for the mystery, per se. It is more the camaraderie between the regulars, and the interesting guest stars than anything else.

In that regard, I think Death in Paradise is, I think, (and hope, as I watch these shows in order) still finding its way with the character of DI Humphrey Goodman (Kris Marshall). He is a bit too clumsy and disheveled (reminiscent of Peter Falk's Columbo, just as DI Richard Poole reminded me of Tony Shalhoub's Monk).

That reminiscence can work in the beginning of a character, but he has to develop his own personality, as Ben Miller did with Poole. I am hoping the camaraderie with the rest of the excellent cast will help make that happen, along with the writers making DI Goodman a bit less accident prone.

The strong suit of this show, it seems to me, is the excellent supporting cast, all of whom are funny while also being portrayed as very good at their work.

Officer Dwayne Myers (Danny John-Jules), Sergeant Fidel Best (Gary Carr) have distinct personalities that I watch to anticipate how they will react to given developments.

I see DS Camille Bordey (Sara Martins) as more of a co-equal star with Poole and Goodman, than as a supporting character. Martins is pivotal, for me, to the enjoyment of this show. Bordey's character is especially well drawn by the writers, and has made the transition from Poole to Goodman much less difficult than it could have been.

And the era of DI Goodman begins with a crushing disappointment.

Warning: Spoilers
After Richard Poole is not in "Death in Paradise" any more, I wondered where Kris Marshall's DI Goodman would lead. I was really looking forward to "The Wrong Man", because the premise sound good and... I was let down. This episode is easily the weakest of what I have seen so far in "Death in Paradise".

Let´s start with redeeming qualities, shall we?

. As usual, the production values are great. The episode looks and sounds wonderful. The cast's fine too. Michelle Ryan fares the best of the guest stars.

. Sometimes the episode has some charm to it and there is quirky humor to be found here. Also like DI Goodman as a character. Really enjoy the fact of how different he is from Poole.

But...

. The case itself was sadly a dull mess with boring characters, predictable twists and a culprit, which is so obvious one can see a mile away. It's no surprise that Lexi was not the intended target, but a cold-blooded murderess.

. Kris Marshall is not always good as Goodman, some of his line deliveries are unfortunately wooden and he is not near as funny as Ben Miller once was. Most of the magic of the show seems to be gone too. And let's not forget: the team doesn't even remember they once had a great boss.

Overall, a sad day in Paradise.

Warning: Spoilers
Me and my partner both guessed the criminal and the motive within the first couple of minutes, skipped to the end to see if we were right and we were spot on, even on the motive... boring obvious plot..
