less time would have been enough
ferguson-613 September 2018
Greetings again from the darkness. Dating back to H.G. Wells' 1895 book and 1960 film THE TIME MACHINE, time travel has long been a favorite and familiar trope for filmmakers and writers. It's been a central topic for comedies (BILL & TED'S EXCELLENT ADVENTURE, HOT TUB TIME MACHINE), science fiction (LOOPER, INTERSTELLAR), oddities (PLANET OF THE APES, DONNIE DARKO), adventures (BACK TO THE FUTURE, MIDNIGHT IN PARIS), and romance (SOMEWHERE IN TIME, ABOUT TIME).

Since time travel has crossed many genres, it only makes sense that a filmmaker looking to tackle the topic would understand something new must be brought to the party, if a new project can hope to have any appeal. Director/writer Thomas Hennessy and co-writer Scott Kennard attempt to blend romance with a dose of science and philosophy, but unfortunately, even as a low budge B-movie, it just comes across as a lackluster effort with a too-simple script. I'm not familiar with director Hennessy's TV work on "Bugmashers" and "Ten for the Chairman", but his background as a cinematographer should have at least resulted in a more visually impactful film.

Justin Hartley ("This is Us") stars as Eric Lazifer, a successful Account Manager who saves his money, watches science shows on TV, and is easily "bored" by the married women who hit on him in bars. So, Eric is a fiscally conservative Brainiac who looks like a male model ... clearly a rough way to go through life. Eric's best bud Kal (James Kyson) serves as the comic relief, and is one of the few who bring some energy to their role. A recent company acquisition has Eric's boss (Mark Valley) mandating he iron out the details with that firm's leader Julia, played by Crishell Stause (Mr. Hartley's real life wife).

It's pretty easy to see where this is headed. Eric falls hard for Julia. However, she fails to swoon for his ice cream-philosophy-romance recipe since she is already engaged to a great guy. So Eric does what any guy would do ... he tracks down disgraced Physics professor Dr Joseph Goyer (Alan Pietruszewski) so that Eric can travel back in time to meet Julia before she connects with her fiancé. It's a solid and logical plan with very little chance for something to go wrong (!). If the story was ever on track, it's here that it really flies off the rails. Watching Eric assist the Physics expert with solving unsolvable equations is just a bit too much.

On the bright side, this segment allows Eric to meet a bartender named Ally, played by Arielle Kebbell. Ms. Kebbell definitely brings a welcome screen presence to this otherwise uninspired project. The soap opera look and feel likely relegate this one to the world of streaming, where, if it's lucky, it might find some time travel obsessed viewers.

Weak.
skurk12315 September 2018
The acting isn't that bad i guess, but everything else is very weak and boring. It is one of those "love" stories where you simply don't care about the characters or their relationship.

Justin is the only reason to watch this
ambermallen18 December 2022
I am absolutely a fan of Justin Hartley. This movie is simply an thinly veiled excuse to watch more of him. 😄 It's overall pretty forgettable, and I just didn't really care about the characters much, but Justin alone is worth watching. He's great, even if the material ain't great. He brings reality, sincerity, and grounding to a character and story that would otherwise be mere eye rollers. It's simply a silly romance story with a pretty wonderful leading man, that's it. Don't even bother trying this one if you're not a Justin fan. If you ARE a Justin fan, though, I don't think you'll be disappointed by this little flick.

The most boring time travel movie ever
phd_travel24 September 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Usually time travel movies are quite fun to watch but this one is a drag. Lots of talking that should have been edited out. There is hardly any romance or spark between the lead actors then a boring stretch about travelling back in time. Why did he even bother?

Justin Hartley of This is Us and his real life wife act in this lame romance.

Boring.

Financial professional and Physics geek needs to meet a girl before her fiancee does.
TxMike31 October 2022
Judging from the IMDb rating and a few user comments, it seems I enjoyed this movie more than most. Maybe it is because I am a scientist? The middle of the movie contains quite a lot of science jargon and discussions of what might be the mechanism to travel back in time. Although that will likely remain impossible forever it is fun to see how it is discussed.

The main character is Justin Hartley as Eric Laziter, a financial professional who seems to be very good at his job. His firm is in the process of buying out a smaller firm and he needs to spend time with the owner to effect a proper transfer. She is smart and pretty and kind and as they spend time together they begin to be romantically attracted to each other.

Big issue! She is recently engaged to her boyfriend of five years and seems very happy with him. But Eric is sure, if he could have met her right before her boyfriend does then he can short-circuit that and have her for himself.

There is a lot of time with a retired Physicist who was on the verge, a few years earlier, of solving the time-travel mechanism. Eric looks him up in Arizona, they work hard on the equations. Ultimately the story is less about time travel and more about finding out what excites you about life. More than just going through the motions and earning a high six figures salary. And maybe, just maybe, the girl he thinks is best for him might not be the one.

My wife and I watched it at home on Amazon streaming movies.

Poor sound
tmccheyne23 May 2020
At times vocals are very poor. One can be heard and the other is either not miked up properly or mumbling. Spoils it, Bit of a laboured film.

Reeeally disappointing :(
godddddes11 February 2019
I gave it two stars-one for Justin and one for Arielle-and that was being generous. The writing sucked, the acting sucked worse (the engaged love interest and the best friend couldn't act their way out of a paper bag), and the directing made it a trifecta of suckiness. I REALLY wanted to like this movie. I love time travel movies, especially if they're love stories. But this one was just beyond awful and painful to watch.

I really wanted to like this one...
carriedaudelin25 September 2018
I really like Justin Hartley and Arielle Kebbel and after seeing the trailer I expected so much more. The movie really isn't a love story and was boring. I kept expecting the tempo of the movie to speed up and the ending was not very satisfying. I am glad I was able to watch for free, I would be upset if I had paid to see it!

Good idea, poor execution
ddavis7872526 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
For concept and idea I'd rate this Movie an 8. For execution I'd rate it a 4. For acting I'd rate it a 4. For the twist ending I'd rate it an 8. Overall, I can rate it a 6.

I like that they pointed out time travel can be done backwards and not forward. After all, how could one travel forward to something that hasn't happened yet. Unless, of course, everything is happening all at once as some theorize. They also covered creating an alternate timeline which covers the time travel bases.

An interesting twist was showing that even if you could travel back in time to change something it may not go as you imagined and now you're stuck there to make the best of it.

Overall worth watching but probably not more than once.

Awful- like a bad soap opera
shermie9720 September 2018
Terrible acting, awkward soap opera feel and cinematography, and laughably unbelievable storyline. I felt like I watching a Lifetime movie. Justin is cute but I wouldn't even speak to him if he came back in time and told me he decided to participate in this movie. Maybe the worst movie I've ever seen.

Makes you think
EdElixivier5 February 2019
Pretty darn good lil indie movie. No, it's not a rush from start to finish...if you want that, go see a Marvel film. It's got a good storyline that will make you reflect on what we would do if we were able to time travel. I like Justin and Chrishelle and thought it was a cute flick.

No joke ,, I actually fell a sleep ..
Aktham_Tashtush16 September 2018
Just gotta say ,, if there is ever an award for the worst actress ,, Chrishell Hartley would won it .. then comes the rest of the cast ,, man they don't know what actign is ..Arielle Kebbel was okay though,

I'm not sure though,, is this an MTV movie !! because even MTV couldn't scoop to this level ... the movie idea is non-original and the script is just predictable and lazy ...

Another time travel movie, but not Sci-Fi
Bac_Hir10 January 2019
Slow start, fast ending.. This is pure romantic drama and has nothing to do with Science Fiction nor Fantasy.

Quote from the movie: "Those who don't study history are doomed to repeat it"

Don't waste your "time" ...
AngelCullen20 June 2019
This movie from beginning to end made zero sense! It was a bunch of physics talk with a dash of eye contact that made the characters fall in love with no chemistry! 😫

So the plot made zero sense. The characters made zero sense. And the ending was so abrupt and .. you guessed it! MADE ZERO SENSE!! Also, this movie was tagged as Comedy and Romance .. and I fail to see where that came from, When the whole movie is depressing and the romance is none existent?!!

Great acting, poor story, slow filming
sibarkn15 September 2018
It's a time traveling story with romance. I watched that small budget for Justin Hartley ("This is us"), who definitly carry it and deserves a better Drama/Romance. But the movie is full of "clichés", or scenes with actors talking about boring or predictable subjects. The path of filming is slow, and the writing kind of weak: characters are not really likable, and not even funny when they are supposed to. Watch it for the actors, you like to see.

This movie is not what I expected, poor story, not balanced and the acting was not so good. I think that anyone will travel in time for more important things than love.

Chrishell Fan
fitzpatsy7 January 2019
Really like the actors. Was an All My Children fan so I search AMC actors every once in a while. Loving This is Us! I'm from Kentucky, have to follow Chrishell. The sound and clarity was poor. It was just ok.
