Not your average day at the races.

Audrey McMurray is a sexy, successful business woman and racing driver, but cold hearted and ruthless. During a big race, attended by most of Kembleford, tragedy strikes as the race kicks off.

Lady Felicia's commentary is hilarious, the show always has a great balance of humour and mystery. It's an intriguing plot with, loaded with twists and turns, and a fantastic conclusion. Tracy Anne Oberman is great, but even she is trumped by Lisa Jackson, who undergoes some incredible transformations.

The ending is wonderfully dramatic, it's a wonderfully clever case of misdirection.

Excellent mystery. 9/10

Father Brown goes to the races for the Series 2 finale. Again the budget is upped a bit as the money has gone on vintage racing cars.

Audrey McMurray is a ruthless businesswoman, a racing driver and an eye for the men. She gives Sid a thrill in the lavatory and makes an ex-lover jealous in the process.

When her race car crashes and blows into flames, it is discovered that her brake cable was cut. There are no shortage of suspects, a local widow who threatened her is arrested and then an ex-lover confesses.

Father Brown thinks Audrey's younger husband and their meek secretary seem to be acting too close. Inspector Sullivan tires of the good padre's meddling and arrests him for a breach of the peace.

A rather nice mystery with several twists and turns, I thought the entire village was going to be arrested at one point for murdering Audrey McMurray. Several characters transform 180 degrees as the episode goes on.

Great fun but sadly misconceived

As a classic car enthusiast what fun to see Shelsley and all those lovely post-vintage thoroughbreds and classics. Unfortunately cars in the 1920s used cables for brakes not hydraulics. The whole premise that someone cut the brake fluid lines is therefore rather funny. That said, as always, it's a great hour long bit of period fun!

Warning: Spoilers
This wasn't the "grand finale" I was hoping for, season 1 had what I would call a very grand finale, this was just an average episode which was a tad wee bit disappointing, the mystery was good but nothing special. Shame they didn't do something with a little more oomph!
