Everything wrong with Oka Laila Kosam in less than a thousand words
ragpap9321 November 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Behold OLK review. Its a disaster and here's why. It begins okay with a graduation speech but then things go downhill fast. NC's character Karthik(K) asks for a gap year to gain wisdom. Not really a bad move. There is an important side story whereby K stops the car, buys a couple of birds and sets them free. Next shot a plane takes off, the birds again. A metaphor, he is as free as a bird. The mandatory Telugu song sort of blends in as a few months go by but we see Nandana(N), the heroine enter in typical clichéd fashion. Destiny. Remember the birds K set free who else should find them but N. The birds were perched on a tree when it rains heavily and N nobly puts her hands over them to shelter them but clearly birds can survive these storms, or else there would be few birds left. She takes the birds to a pet store to buy bird-food when the vendor, Shah Rukh(SR) who sold the birds to K comes to the same store. sometimes coincidences happen (Refer to Laura Buxton's story) SR claims that those birds are his, like there are only two birds of that type in the whole of India. He tells her of K buying and setting them free in the name of freedom. She was impressed by this but wait you'll find this in contrast to her actions later on. She asks him to say thanks on behalf of the birds if he ever sees K except the birds are not really free as she still keeps them imprisoned which pretty much defeats the purpose of him setting them free.

Had enough of birds? Well if you watched the rest of the movie the birds would be the least of your problems. K sees N and falls in love at 1st sight. She's beautiful. Obviously she has to be doing something cheesy for the hero to fall for her otherwise its lust and that is a sin. She's having fun skipping over puddles when a truck approaches. Puddle. Truck. Oh no! Tense music. She hides behind her shawl and splash! Get this it was a selfless deed as big reveal she was protecting some school kids from their uniforms getting dirty. Hero flat. He gets out of the car and tries to catch her but misses. Don't worry K its a movie where things defy probability and extreme coincidence is the norm.

A joke about entrance exam into heaven postmortem which is actually funny. His father asks him 6 months are up got any clarity? I'll write a book he says. 1st time we're hearing about it. Improvisation. Book is about her, enter movie title here. How meta of you, movie? The final opening credit just for solidarity. Bird story arc continues as SR meets K. Gist: what did she name the birds?

Heroine follows her father's principles religiously. Thats okay I guess. K helps his friend by pretending to be bad making a bad impression with N who leaves before the "drama's climax". Bad 1st impressions are bound to bite hero and audience who would have to put up with this in the a$$ with a vengeance later on. Thus begins another story arc I would like to call the Prejudice like from Pride & Prejudice. Meanwhile Heroine's BFF flat.

Comedy for this movie is toilet humor. Ali's character Pandu(P), Uncle of K and thanks to said nephew gains a reputation of having the magical ability whereby children who he carries pee. The joke goes too far when everyone comes asking him to help with their kids having trouble to pee. There were other tortures K caused him to face but this was the main one. Due to which he flees to Dubai and gets stuck there for fifteen years visa problems. He returns with a vengeance but should have never returned.

N meeting SR: birds' names Laila + Majnu. She wants his number. Yay! Meanwhile on the Prejudice story arc N misunderstands K & N's BFF taking selfies as them dating.

...Happy freedom day. Freedom, K's favorite word. He buys a flag and kisses the sweet little girl on the cheek. N too buys flag from same girl, kisses girl on same cheek mind you. Flashback to reconfirm. Its a small world, really small, despicable, movie. He just misses her again. Song!

K Meeting with SR: bird names given, phone number please. No sorry in love with someone else. Will this bird talk ever end. Immediate cutaway to SR meeting with N. Impressed further that he didn't give her his phone number while in love with someone else. Oops song not over yet. K sees N giving an old man new clothes, gives chase. Meets with fatal accident but since he's hero sustains small injuries. N gives shawl not dramatically, thankfully, asks him for his family members' number. He gives her his, she dials it he now has her number mu ha ha. He professes his love to her. Anyone would think he is crazy at this point. I'm with N on this one. He gets details from old man of which center N studies at. Next day he joins. Mind games and reverse psychology. Meanwhile K's frustrated father wants him to get married so he could learn some responsibility.

Online site matches them. For a long time K doesn't know this. Pandu also delays the inevitable. All of K's wooing attempts N calls out as "cheap tricks" including one that is absolutely brilliant. But she's a woman scorned you see. When all good ideas fail only the stupid ones remain. In the end girl understands guy. Guy gets girl and all are happy. If only 'Everything Wrong With' could do Indian movies like this one the movie sin Tally would be off the charts.

Sentence: Birdemic 1&2 to view for eternity.

A befitting film to make Naga Chaitanya's trilogy of Love (YMC, 100%Love,OLK) the best romantic trinity by any hero
MuraliTarantinolan31 October 2014
When Love+Comedy+Music works well films like Oka Laila Kosam happens.

Nagachaitanya steals the show from the beginning and Vijay Kumar Anup Rubens made it possible.

Though outline of the story is orthodox Vijay made it variant by some new ideas like impressing a girl and Ali's comedy. Cinematography by Andrew is good.

Each and every song was shot well especially Ee Chinni Life song looks like a painting.

Comedy timing was perfect and Nagachaitanya handled it well. Ali deserve a special appreciation in the success of this film.

I have seen the film twice in a week and I enjoyed every scene 2nd time too.

Worthwatching!

Another Awesomely Awful movie
bhargav-deva24 October 2014
Warning: Spoilers
As the movie begins Nagachaitanya arrives on stage and tells that life is a circle everyone lives with the same circle , then he tells that he has to find about his strength and weaknesses so i thought that its movie about a life in which on a life journey he meets his love .

But after a 15 mins of movie it becomes very difficult to watch because there is one song shot in states in which he told that he finds his everything .

When it comes to story lead actress misunderstands him for some things he does in first half and they two gets engaged as a fixed marriage from their families Actor is happy with that and Actress is not happy with it , it goes this way for some time and as he tries to impress her she does not get into his way and also tells him that she does not like him , so he makes a murder case against himself and cancels the marriage in the climax she finds the truth and comes back to marry him again.

Actors tried better to act as of the written screen play its not their fault.

The direction department is very poor the director does not seems to know how to handle the scenes which he is directing.

Screenplay is such a waste the dialogues are poorly written apart from punch dialogues.

At last i would like to say There are no better acting skills in naga chaitanya so better he should improve more

Is another movie which is a waste of money to watch.....

Another good romantic movie from Naga Chaitanya
sivathexpandable28 October 2014
At first I wasn't ready to go for this movie cause I don't really watch telugu movies. My friend insisted on going to this movie. So, finally I'm there watching this movie, at first I felt like I'm sleeping. All of sudden the story gets interesting as soon as our Hero finds our Queen. Karthik's (naga chaitanya) way of approaching a girl, way of thinking about life, taking a break and writing a book is really a good thought. Heroine's relationship with her father is interesting. Totally, its a good entertainer with full of love, explains us about the family relationships. It also explains that how a misunderstanding between two persons results! Moreover, love towards a girl is beautifully expressed by Karthik. At the end,its the work of our Director. Overall, it's a good romantic movie with a message on marriage and life.

Very nice romantic entertainer
Vihari_Krishna24 October 2014
Warning: Spoilers
Punch line - A Karunakaran Story..

Yeah that's what I felt. From the beginning, heroine hates hero owing to some misunderstandings till climax, but then everything takes U-turn. This quite resembles Karunakaran's movies like Happy, Ullasanga Uthsahanga e.t.c..

Nevertheless, "OLK" is a nice family entertainer. Definitely deserves to be watched at least once, if not twice or thrice. Pre- climax twist is just superb. It creates a lot of sympathy on hero's character and that is what actually needed for romantic/drama films.

And regarding the criticism, that after doing some classic stuffs like YMC and Manam, Naga Chaitanya should have gone choosy than doing a regular Rom-Com, what I feel is, you cannot always get Classics... They just happen...

Coming to the performances, lead cast share some very nice moments, Naga Chaitanya sparkles in his role and delivers a commendable performance. But he needs to work a little bit on comedy timing. Other than that, everything about Naga Chaitanya is fine. His screen presence is very good, he carries the role with aplomb. Pooja Hegde gets a vital role and she also acts well, apart from having pretty looks. Rest others are fine... Ali's comedy is good. He really nailed it..

Story is routine but the treatment given by director deserves appreciation. Many scenes are nicely canned. Screenplay should have been more tighter in second half, while it is gripping in first half.. Direction is alright. "Oka Laila Kosam" primarily suffers with inconsistency. While 75% of the scenes are very good, the rest are not upto the mark.

Music is good. All songs are melodious. But, "Oka Laila Kosam - Remix" stands out. It is highly energetic and doesn't spoil the original flavor. Background score is nice too. Camera work by Andrew is just amazing. Every frame looks like a painting. Production values by Annapurna Studios are superb. The film looks rich, despite the low budget.

Few dialogs need special appreciation like - "Premademundi uncle e- mail unna prathi vadu premisthadu. Preminchabadadamey goppa.."

On a whole, I liked the movie. I would have given 9/10 if not for the inconsistency in the merit of scenes. It has some very nice moments. Though there are some lags, the overall feel good nature covers them. Also, it is a clean family entertainer. You can watch it with your family and enjoy heartily.
