The LastShip: El Toro

Warning: Spoilers
This week's episode was pretty entertaining. To begin with - it did my heart good to see the CO, XO, CMC and LT (the one with the missing dog) all getting a break from that mundane ship-life. They need to get out more often anyways. I can also imagine how bad the passageways stank with the heads being down so long. Remember, last week the ship lost the ability to produce potable water and that means no flushy-flushy. Anyways, if I were captain, the first people I would send out on a landing party would be the personnel paramount to shipboard operation and safety. Come on, it's just plain stupid to use common sense in this instance. Historically, one James T. Kirk proved this practice as sound. The only drawback to Kirk's application was that some poor shlog-red-shirt got bumped off every week. I digress. The landing party has an important mission, it needs monkeys really bad. These unsuspecting primates will be for the Mad Doctor, Dr. Scott. She says she needs them to evaluate her vaccine - those poor, ignorant animals – bah – she is quite mad I tell you. Well the gang goes there for monkey and all they find is bull. In this episode the lock horns with El Toro and has gang of gut-throats. The writing is improving weekly; the acting is improving weekly and the plot – meh – who needs one. Lots of shooting and stuff…so this show earns another 8 out of 10.

First off, I know I'm behind the times watching this as I just started watching on Hulu. Second, I have to say I completely disagree with fantasianightmare's review of how horrible the episode was saying it was unrealistic that we wouldn't go in there and just start shooting innocent people. OK it's a show that isn't based on reality so we don't know what would happen. Also, they were not innocent people. It was a power hungry and twisted man that was molesting little girls and controlling his community and sending people across the river to die with the infected if you made him mad. He deserved what he got. But what was sad was seeing the infected people knowing they couldn't help them. That was hard. I thought it was a great episode. But that's just my opinion

I have been watching this show since it started and I love it.It's one of my all time favorite shows.Very well written and the cast is perfect. This is the kind of show I would love to see go for 10 seasons or more.Very well put together and the theme songs are so fitting for the show. Also the makeup for the cast is out of this world.Sort of reminds me of the walking dead but just not as graphic as the people don't up in that one which is good.Im hoping that they don't find the cure for awhile just so they will not end the show but I'm afraid that this might only last for a season unless they can keep it going with them trying to find the cure and then go around curing people but I really hope that none of the cast aboard the ship don't get sick and die because the crew on the ship are awesome and they do a great job together. Great job.

Monkey Island

"The Last Ship" is quickly becoming the united nations for cardboard archetypal big bad men. We have got the terrorists from Guantanamo, the cold-as-ice Russian, and now we get the Latino-American drug-dealer. At least this new 'enemy' gives some needed life to the show, which keeps having very strange ideas about humanity (cough cough as black and white as possible).

Doctor Scott (a Rhona Mitra that struggles to show anything of the inner struggle her character is supposed to go through in the two minutes screen time she gets) says the team needs monkeys to try the vaccine. Monkeys we will get then. As Costa Rica seems a no-no, they go to Nicaragua, where pretty soon they find some survivors. Of the no-visitors-welcomed type.

"The Last Ship" is having mighty problems in character... characterization. José Zúñiga, as 'El Toro', is as ridiculous as they come, and it's just a drooling around away from becoming the 101 drug dealer from your we-don't-really-care-about-reality-we-will-settle-for-prejudice book. His team is menacing enough, and the new environment gives for some acceptable action and stakes to Chandler and his men to face. It is simplistic as it comes, but at least it is well done.

Don't hope "The Last Ship" to challenge any preconceptions about humanity, though.

Stereotypes abound
Xine9g930 September 2021
American heroes--stoic, righteous, outmanned and outgunned by nefarious South American oppressor. Helpless local population, including virginal maidens awaiting a dire fate. Probably the single most irritating female lead on TV, complete with unnaturally icy British accent.

So, no guessing who is going to win this one.

Bad episode, literally went down from here.

Warning: Spoilers
The episode starts out pretty great, negotiations, you go in, talk, peacefully, but then after they leave, the whole plot goes up in flames, its not realistic, its not right, its just plain stupid, you would not in even real life circumstances shoot a colony unless you had jurisdiction from the actual government of said country, yet they did not ask, they shot the leader and all his guys, for what, to let them starve, to die, to get infected, the whole silly thing is BS and as i keep watching, it keeps going down here, i would not recommend this show to anyone, because of how unrealistic and stupid this episode is.

If you were looking for a show that you wanted to get into, i would recommend against this show, this show is pure something and should not be watched, find another show, this one is going down the toilet fast, why I'm giving this episode a 1, because it just ruins the whole plot, they don't even find a cure to the virus, they are bloody going against it, killing innocents in innocent countries.
