Decisions
claudio_carvalho1 October 2017
Ragnar learns that King Horit ordered his son to ambush King Ecbert's son and now they need to fight. He wants to wait and observe, but Horit commands the attack and they are defeated. Rollo is seriously wounded but the survivors need to flee to their camp. Athelstan recognizes Rollo and saves his life, bringing him to Wessex. King Ecbert arranges a meeting with Ragnar and offers a treasure and land for them, and returns the injured Rollo to his friends. He also employs volunteer mercenaries to attack Mercia. Althelstan decides to return with Ragnar while Floki is close to King Horit looking for recognition for his work. Meanwhile Auslag releases Porunn that becomes a free woman.

"The Choice" is an episode of "Vikings" made of choices and decisions. King Horit's decision to attack the Saxons shows completely wrong. Athelston's decision of returning to Kattegat shows how close to Ragnar he is. Auslag's decision to make Porunn a free woman is wise. Floki's decision to support King Horit is strange for a man that saved the life of his friend Ragnar. My vote is eight.

Paving a New Way

Warning: Spoilers
"The Choice" features the series' most grandiose and high stakes battle sequence yet (I got teary eyed seeing Rollo struck down in battle), alongside enjoyable progressions for the Viking and English relations (seeing how they move forward seems particularly interesting). Princess Kwenthrith recruiting Viking mercenaries was humorous, King Ecbert using Caesar's tactics was a nice addition, and it was a great moment when King Aelle realises he is the hostage for the Vikings, despite us disappointingly not getting to see how that situation really is for him. Athelstan returning home and reuniting with Ragnar is equally a joy! And once more, King Horik becomes further unlikeable and Floki ain't looking much better (although I suspect he will ultimately turn against Horik last minute).

Another fabulous episode this magnanimous series, notably when King Ecbert with a proper helps of Athelstan who translate an old scroll to learn how the Romans used to fight in the past, he won the battles against disconnected Vikings whose becomes a easy prey to a mastermind of war, after that Athelstan divided by two kinds of religions accepts to return to Northern's land!!! Now l have to wait two months to watch the next!!

Warning: Spoilers
Writing this in the moment of the battle-ending,

Never before have i witnessed something so magnificent as this, father and leader of his people withstanding pressure realizing retreat is the only option, meanwhile catching a glimpse of his brother lying face up on the battlefield, frustrated and overwhelmed by the saxons he fights with everything he got, the son running and shouting father! as he realizes this might be the end of their raid. He jumps in with both feet pushing back a saxe, opening up the tight circle of shields and pointy weapons trying to contain and ultimately finish-off the legendary of forever remembered Ragnar the descendent hero resting in Valhalla Lothbrok.

As a viking i feel blessed to have the opportunity to consume this series and being able to pause, open my imdb-tab and write this review for me and for you fellow citizens.
