Earlier today, we got our hands on the full list of every new movie and TV show being added to Netflix next month. It’s an impressive offering, too, featuring originals like Project Power and the fifth season of Lucifer. But as is often the case, just as every new month brings us fresh additions, it also results in a lot of great titles leaving the service.
August is no different and along with revealing everything that’s being added, Netflix has also announced what we’ll be saying goodbye to in the coming weeks. Some of these just arrived on the platform quite recently, too, which makes their exit especially unfortunate. But unless it’s original content, not a whole lot lasts forever on Netflix and so, we’ll always have to come to terms with the fact that popular shows and movies could be removed at any time.

Adapted for television by Chris Sheridan (Family Guy), Resident Alien follows Harry (Tudyk), a crash-landed alien who, after taking on the identity of a small-town Colorado doctor, slowly begins to wrestle with the moral dilemma of his secret mission on Earth — ultimately asking the big life questions: “Are human beings worth saving?” and “Why do they fold their pizza before eating it?”

"I'm over it Dell, this whole thing - sex, love - I'm out." Netflix has debuted a trailer for a teen comedy titled Alex Strangelove, the latest feature from director Craig Johnson (of The Skeleton Twins and Wilson previously). This quirky sexual awakening story is about a high school senior named Alex Truelove, played by newcomer Daniel Doheny (from Adventures in Public School), who has a "wonderful girlfriend" named Claire. Things get complicated when he meets Elliot, a "handsome and charming gay kid from the other side of town", and this "unwittingly sends Alex on a roller-coaster journey of sexual exploration, kicking off a hilarious and moving adventure of love, sex and friendship in our liberated and confusing modern times." The full cast includes Antonio Marziale, William Ragsdale, Joanna Adler, Isabella Amara, Ayden Mayeri, and Madeline Weinstein. This looks fresh and fun, all about the challenges of modern sexuality. Here's...

Funny, cute and good-natured, but also trying a bit too hard to achieve those qualities, “Alex Strangelove” is equal parts homage to the teen comedy genre and an earnestly seriocomic coming-out story. Writer-director Craig Johnson’s fourth feature is probably his best to date, hitting the target more consistently than “The Skeleton Twins” or “Wilson.” Still, his best is surely yet to come, on the day he finally relaxes a bit and prizes emotional truth over antic comedy. Nevertheless, “Strangelove” should please a fair number of viewers when it launches day and date June 8 on Netflix and in limited theatrical release.
Amiable beanpole Alex Truelove is a straight-a suburban high-school senior. He’s also a confessed nerd — though hardly scorned as such, since he’s been elected class president.
His small circle of guy pals is considerably altered by the arrival of new girl Claire (Madeline Weinstein from “Beach Rats”), who’s smart and droll,...

"Forget about school, it's time to party." An official trailer has debuted online for an Canadian indie comedy film titled Adventures in Public School, formerly known as Public Schooled when it premiered at last year's Toronto Film Festival. The film is about a socially awkward home-schooled kid named Liam who forces his way into attending public school against his "suffocating but loving" mother's wishes. The talented Judy Greer stars as the mother, and the kid is played by Daniel Doheny. The cast also includes Siobhan Williams, Russell Peters, Grace Park, Andrew McNee, Alex Barima, Andrew Herr, and Eva Day. I don't recall hearing much about this from Tiff last year, but it seems like it might be a fun coming-of-age comedy about parenting and school life. I like that Greer seems to be having as much crazy fun as her son is. Here's the first official trailer for Kyle Rideout's Adventures in Public School,...

Setting out to explore the benign, adorable side of extreme helicopter parenting, director Kyle Rideout and his co-screenwriter, Josh Epstein, could have landed in unbearably quirky territory. But their follow-up to the biographical drama Eadweard proves surprisingly light on its feet. The farcical story of a single mother, her only child and their wackily heartfelt testing of new waters is a feel-good comedy with a self-aware undertow of cringe. The writing and direction of Public Schooled put a bright spin on high-school antics, and the ace cast makes the grade, led by Judy Greer's long-proven down-to-earth magic and the deft...

Director and co-writer Kyle Rideout’s comedic drama “Public Schooled” was shooting according to plan until the final days — when Vancouver was hit with a snowstorm that dropped two feet of the white stuff everywhere. “I was excited because I live in L.A. and I was like, ‘This is so fun,'” actress Judy Greer told TheWrap’s Steve Pond during a video interview at the Toronto Film Festival. The second feature from Eadweard helmer Kyle Rideout, Public Schooled has nothing in common with that film. “The first film that I did was an epic period film in the 1880s, so there's definitely not much of a through line to Public Schooled,” the director joked, sitting down with his Public Schooled stars—including Judy Greer, Russell Peters, and Tiff Rising Star Daniel Doheny—at Deadline’s Toronto Studio. “With this one, I was really wanting to do something that was a…...

Judy Geer is a treasure, whether she's lighting up a comedy or strengthening a drama, so whenever she appears in a film, it means that attention must be paid. In a fresh clip from Public Schooled, her sad, soulful side is showcased, as she says goodbye to her teenage son ... forever! Or, at least until the end of the school day. The film revolves around the young man in the clip: "Socially awkward, Liam has been homeschooled his entire life. For almost twenty years, Judy Greer has been one of the busiest actresses in every medium, whether it’s appearing in popular comedies like 13 Going on 30, Oscar fare like Alexander Payne’s The Descendants, or even unrecognizable as the ape Cornelia in Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and its upcoming sequel. Maybe Greer’s largest pop came when she was cast to play Will Arnett’s cross-eyed secretary Kitty Sanchez in Mitch Hurwitz’s popular show Arrested Development, and for the past few years, she’s also provided the voices for a couple characters on the popular animated show Archer.
Either way, it’s unlikely you haven’t seen Greer in hundreds of movies or TV shows over the years, as she keeps very, very busy, and yet somehow, despite that busy schedule, Greer has found time to put together a book and make her directorial debut with a comedy starring Common.
