Decent ITV drama
Tweekums14 April 2014
Warning: Spoilers
This two part ITV drama opens in the 1980s with a mother and daughter stopping off at a lake; while there the young girl, Jane Phillips, witnesses her mother's murder. Cutting to the present she now has a child of her own and is expecting another. While going to hospital for a routine check-up she is convinced the man she bumps into is the killer. She reports this to the police but the man, eminent oncologist Andrew Rawlins, denies all knowledge of the event and the fact that Jane suffers from depression and has been 'sure' somebody else did it before won't help her case. Still an accusation has been made and DI Alison Hall really wants to close this case before she retires as it was the first murder case she ever worked on. When DNA evidence shows that Rawlins' blood doesn't match that found at the scene Jane still insists he is the killer and even those closest to her start to abandon her.

This wasn't a bad two part drama but it did feature some fairly obvious clichés; the retiring cop determined to close a case, an accused man who appears to beyond reproach and a witness who nobody believes… including her husband and father. The conclusion wasn't a surprise but how it was done was rather clever… I wouldn't have figured it out if I hadn't seen something very similar in a CSI type programme quite recently! The cast do a decent job; Claire Goose is suitably disturbed as Jane, Peter Firth is good as Rawlins; convincing yet still suspicious and Pippa Haywood does well as DI Hall; it was nice to see a cop played in a fairly understated way. Overall this was a decent drama; certainly worth spending a couple of hours watching.

Watchable!
davyd-0223728 August 2021
But clearly written with only the women in mind. "Jane" doesnt have the support of any male police officer, her husband or father/step father when she makes her accusation against a surgeon who she believes is the one she saw on the bank, having killed her mum. The killer only knew the woman briefly, but you could miss that bit. The investigating officer who gets involved is also female and the interesting ending has a woman bringing the killer to justice. How its done, given all thats gone before is the interesting bit of the piece. Better, several years later than perhaps it was when released simply as there isnt much like this on freeview these days. The locations are very nice, although some are in Eire!

Well acted mini mini series..
canuckteach22 September 2020
Mini? It was over before we knew it. One disk, 2 episodes. That's it. We bought the series to see Claire Goose, an actress we enjoyed in the long-running WAKING THE DEAD. Also included is Peter Firth of MI-5 fame, and veteran player, Pippa Haywood, as a sympathetic detective.

Claire plays Jane Phillips, a young wife and mother whose own mom was mysteriously murdered over 2 decades before. While having a physical, she notices a doctor who looks like the killer and reports him. No one believes her - except one cop, who will be furloughed shortly (Pippa). We initially have our doubts, especially when a DNA test meets with unexpected results.

An interesting show-however, typically a true mini-series runs 4 hours-this one was less than 2. I had this series sent from the UK for a premium price. There was certainly room for more character & plot development, but I will credit the writers for coming up with a fresh twist on Forensics (one that sent us scurrying to the WWW for verification).

Very enjoyable movie to watch, great actors

I a great movie to watch for a couple of hours during the weekend, or a win down before bed. The acting is solid and I am dang tired of the crap they are putting out these days. The blow up and outs, the screaming, head-banging music, the gore! I really enjoyed this. Family friendly, overall. I don't have to be a pretend professional critic snubbing my nose at a perfectly fine film. I just like it. Thanks for reading. :)

I dont think i drank too much whilst watching this, but I dont think we got a reason for the murder?! I enjoyed it, but with no reason for a brutal murder, i cant mark it any higher.

Watchable although nothing to write home about.

I can't help thinking the writers of this drama happened upon the interesting fact that gives the end its twist and decided to write a 'what if' story so that they could present us with said interesting fact. The plot and characters were hugely undeveloped. There is no reason given for the murder of Jane's mother. Everyone seems to have moved on with their lives and its hard to feel invested in any of the characters. Having said all that it is a pretty decent British drama with some wonderful actors in it so not a waste of time watching at all. I'm just disappointed that the story wasn't fleshed out more, that there wasn't some surprising twist uncovering the events surrounding the murder and telling us why it happened - It could have been gripping.

There was a motive given. I think.

Warning: Spoilers
The nurse that was sexually assaulted by Dr. Rawlins tells D. I. Allison that she remembers a patient accused Dr. Rawlins of sexual assault. The nurse didn't file, but the patient did. We are left to assume the patient was Janes mother. We're left to assume that before she could follow through with her complaint he killed her.

Well enough acted but over in less than 2 hours seemed a bit short. And there was no motive given for a brutal murder!!!

An underrated drama from ITV.
Sleepin_Dragon13 October 2021
A young girl witnesses the death of her mother, twenty five years later she believes she's spotted her killer.

I thoroughly enjoyed this two part series, you just know if ITV were making this now, it would have been six or eight parts. This shorter running time means that it's very well paced, it moves along quickly, and satisfies all round.

The story is a good one, there is some originality to it. The acting is great, Peter Firth and Claire Goose are excellent, the standout for me is Christine Bottomley, who is terrific.

Nicely made, well produced, I'm glad it was recently repeated, as I'd missed it first time around. I preferred the second part to the first.

A very good watch, 8/10.

Not up to snuff

Warning: Spoilers
Undeniable is a two parter that was made for some reason other than the amusement of the public. It had a great cast ---except for the heroine's husband--- but overall covered too much familiar ground; the retiring cop trying to solve that pesky case after 20 years and risking her pension (sigh,) the husband and father whom are tired of the heroine's histrionic behaviour, the perp's outraged daughter who finally sees the light and the perp's struggle to run when faced with exposure. If anything this should have been done as a bad low budget movie and not a two part mini broadcast in prime time paid out of lottery and license fees Writing this review it dawned on me that this might be a case of giving someone a backhander; otherwise why would something that is this bad, cliché filled, ever get into production? BBC turns out so much good drama... Luther, Endeavour, Jonathan Creek, etc.etc., that there must be some skullduggery behind the commissioning of this. Bet there is a tale of intrigue, blackmail, money laundering, perhaps even death and infidelity involved in getting this dog greenlit. There's a mini series here.....But I digress, been around too long and see so often why crap is produced and it never has anything to do with art. Must say though always a pleasure to see the beautiful and talented Pippa Haywood in anything. Her range and skill are amazing, though I'm not, and have never been, a monarchist (in the interest of integrity, I may have considered kingship in my per-adolescent youth) but would think it timely to award Ms. Haywood a "dameship"(?)

Good stuff!

Pippa Haywood makes any show worth watching, and this one is no exception. Quite gripping story. I felt for Jane, when her own husband, instead of supporting her, didn't believe her, and left her. All in all well worth watching, and a thousand percent better than the crap on TV now.

Well recommended. Gripping from start to finish. Great acting, a definite must watch in my opinion & I struggle to watch much that keeps me interested.
